Great game, got me interested right away

It was all very fun, I loved the exploration and there's a great variety of enemies, even a slimy boss, I just couldn't feed the poor fallen ones.

it's cool imagining what old classic NES games could have been if they had modern genre spins like crafting/collecting in a NES zelda... this is definitely nailing that concept and aesthetic!

Balance/progression creates a bit of a grindy problem as you mentioned i saw in a comment -- and it's brought more to the attention from the lack of music/sound. After i realized i wasn't gonna grind up all the resources (esp if i lose everything when i die right now), i decided to explore for 5 minutes. A lot of cool stuff in this game!! I got to fight the slime boss and I'm glad i got to find the dungeon and check that out too

I liked this zelda-like

instead of dungeons, this one focuses on the overworld part! Nailed the nes feel! I like everything abt this

Really nice graphics and I enjoyed how destroying something caused collectible pieces to scatter around. The gameplay felt very grindy after a while... it took a long time to find the first mushroom. I'd suggest giving the player a quick first win right away and then build from there. Also, I saw opportunities to revive things on the ground but I never seemed to have enough food. There were no inventory indicators so I never knew how many resources I was carrying. I like how you gave options like blocking and throwing the shield to stun... and was also nice to be able to speed up the text by holding a button.  Good job overall!

Hey thanks!

The balance is, unfortunately , very broken and too grindy. I'll fix it later. The select button (shift on the keyboard) opens the inventory.

Very nice job! The sprites are really nice and there's quite a bit of enemy variety! For me, the punishment for going down was a bit too harsh for how grindy it is, so yeah, I ended up as a mushroom. xD

The complete lack of audio was a shame though. A  few basic bleeps and bloops would've pushed this game to a next level. Other than that it felt very polished. Well done!

Oh btw, I did run into an issue with gamepad controls, where up/down wouldn't register in the dialog options. Though it was easily worked around by using the keyboard for that.

Hey thanks!

You know how it is, I had hopes and dreams and aimed a little too high. Will check the controller bug.

Haha, yeah that's how it goes. It's super impressive all the stuff you got done though. Had a lot of fun with it! :)

Very cute pilot quest like,  I really like the enemy graphics and the shield throwing mechanic.  I think you tuned it to play a bit slow, after a 15 minute play session I hadn't found a second mushroom, and only had enough resources for 1 helper, not enough for any upgrades.  I think killing the boss wasn't rewarding enough. Nice work overall!

The premise was basically "Can I replace Pilot Quest's click mechanics with repetitive resource gathering?". I'll be adding other elements that will make resource gathering and navigation a little less irritating.

Thanks for playing!
