Cool game!

* I really LOVE the bg art, that is some GORGEOUS rendering for the limited color sets. I think the parallax can't be done (also are those mountains moving on their own? lol) on the NES but the art itself is all fantastic.

* I appreciate some of the small touches, like the READY at the start of the stage, really helps it feel like an NES game. Also the Megaman style room transitions.

* The combat certainly feels NES, with the knockbock, definitely tuned for that, although the jumps are committed ones.

* The camera had a lot of slight lerping whenever you stopped, I'm not sure it was necessary given how tight the frame on the character was.

* I think the HUD was very creative but maybe a little difficult to parse being cramped and unorthodox. I respect the effort though for sure.

* I like the music! Solid pumping beat in the day and a very well suited track for night.

* I ran into some clipping bugs where I got stuck in the wall and died, transitioning back and forth between two screens...

Overall nice entry!

Thx for the feedback! <3We know paralax cant be done on NES and also the big amount of layers we put on the game lol But we decide to do it anyways (those are clouds not mountains lol)
We are updating the game soon and already remove some of the stuff as the camera lerping, its anoying specially when you use the attack.

Thx again for taking your time to give feedback and play the game <3

Based, I put parallax in my game too and I think my NES score suffered for it even though I tried to keep it layerless lol. Good luck with the updates!

I hadn't commented on this one yet in case I could eventually manage to go further into the game (I couldn't ;) ). I went a bit through the different paths after the first checkpoint but never managed to reach a second one I think.

The game is great, it's emulating its inspiration quite perfectly, with great music and controls which fit the right balance between sturdy and smooth. Granted the game is not easy the difficulty is right on point, from what've encountered no sequence is ridiculous, the level design is good.

One thing that's been troubling me is how when you reach the first checkpoint then you can go west, but if you die you can't anymore, I've been wondering if it's intentional.

I'm not the biggest fan of advanced parallax scrolling in games which want to emulate NES games.

Thanks for sharing!

Thx for the feedback! :) Im updating the build soon and we fix a lot of stuff and also nerf others xD the transition thing is not intentional, good catch! Thx again for taking your time to give feedback and play the game <3

im dying a lot

but the art is gorgeous, i love it!Feels like it could be a NES game

Developer

Pretty cool game, died a lot. The curse effecting the jump distance/height made the platforming a bit tricky. Was kind of shocked when I got a game over seemingly out of nowhere. I have a weakness for games like Castlevania so I'll probably be back to try this one again later to see if I can beat it!

Developer(+1)

Thx! :D Game comes out really hard tbh, (and janky xD) but we are nerfing it and fixing stuff after the jam, hope it makes the expeience less frustrating and more enjoyable! :)

Understandable, I'm doing the same thing with my game, glad you guys are doing a post jam version!

Awesome video and visuals here. I'd be curious to see how your game would play differently if the hitboxes were matched more closely to the attack animation frames. While playing, I noticed that the hitboxes triggered immediately when the animation started playing, which made my hits land before my blade was even out. Thanks for flagging the transition issue, too! It's unfortunate when bugs like that land, but it's great when the devs provide the workaround upfront to avoid it!

Developer

Thx for the feedback! this is really good feedback actually, we are 100% adding that, thx again :)

I don't think I hit the transition error.  I kept jumping whenever I was moving between screens because I read the comments first.  It got dark and I was punching with this little dark attack instead of the sword and I couldn't pass the flying eyeball looking things.  I got to a point where they kept coming down from the sky but that's a skill issue.  I couldn't time the attack and jump properly to not get knocked back into the pits so I quit there.  The music and graphics were great!

Thx for the feedback! Hope you enjoy the experience overall, we are 100% fixing and nerfing stuff after the jam, game ended being quite hard _xD

Good game, despite the transition error, it was fun to play.

I tried making the transitions myself once, but from what I remember, it didn't go so well, so Good Job. I didn't like the floor, but the animations and background are beautiful.

Developer

Thx! Wea re srry about the transition, its so sad we didnt realize before! maybe we should remove some pits xD Thx for the feedback, its appreciated <3

From what little I've played, this game is absurdly excellent. It's a shame it has such a critical bug. I was going to give up, but I saw a comment explaining how to avoid it, as it kept happening. I bypassed it and progressed in the game. It was the best decision; it's an extremely good game.

Developer

Thx so much! your comment make us really happy :D there is a lot of things to improve tho, we gonna do it after the jam ends :)

I got stuck at some point at the start just going back and forth two screens, until the game suddenly killed for an unknown reason. I couldn't really get past it.

Other than that, the general idea is nice, probably needs a bit of polishing with the controls, and the music is really good.

Developer

Thx for the feedback! <3 Yeah we noticed that something break in that transition sadly, there other route to go through, or jumping in transition avoid geting stuck. But yeah, we are 100% fixing stuff after the jam xD
