Cute looking game with nice music! I only played a little bit since time is running out for ratings, but I found it a bit frustrating when fish escaped into the rocks and it doesn't seem like there's a way to catch them anymore because they come out again but not enough to give me a chance to get to them before they disappear again. (I guess there might be shop items that help with that, but without an indication that this would be the case, the situation is pretty frustrating.) Otherwise, overall quite a pleasant experience.
Wow okay, this was a lot more than I was expecting! At first I was ready to drop the game. Was confused by the basket system, thought I was pressing the wrong button and accidentally opening the shop. Once I understood what was going on though, the fun appeared!
Love the idea that most of the shop items are technically optional. Every purchase feels like progress and you can get pretty "strong" once you get a basket upgrade and the doubled sale prices. I was also very surprised by the inclusion of a little animated end cutscene! Feels like y'all set up my expectations with the gameplay and story, and when I collected the crystal ball I thought "did I finish the game? what does getting the crystal ball do?" and it turned into a nice little sequence.
For constructive feedback, I think it'd be good to have some audiovisual feedback to indicate that you're returning to the shop automatically because the basket is full. Would help tutorialize the game much more naturally. Also, I had 4 cursed items and found one in the shop...? But after purchasing, it didn't seem to count towards buying the crystal ball. I decided to do more fishing and hoped it would cause the store to refresh. I found another cursed item while I was fishing, so I technically ended the game with 6 cursed item (the UI only showed 5).
That's all I've got. Fun little game! Good job team :)
Fun game!
Graphically, it loses a bit of the NES feel with how many palettes are used (especially in the shop menu) The inconsistent asset size is also a bit distracting.
Gameplay wise though, it's a nice and relaxing fishing game, just a chill time. I like how there are some things in the shop that serve no purpose aside from knocking them off the shelves, it's a good bit.
Fishing mechanics worked well, simple but effective, and I enjoyed unlocking the ability to go deeper and find out what there was to be seen at the bottom.
cute game with a lot of charm~
This was a lot of fun. I loved the game within the game of knocking shiny stuff off the shelves. Very clever design!
Ahah, cool and appropriate ending (and good ending too as cute cats won't be turned into boring humans).
The game was relaxing, the soundtrack is good, the pole controls feel good and I like the cat literally going through the shop, catching the red fish who was trying to hide was satisfying.
Thanks for sharing!
This game really captivated me a bit. Something I didn't like is how the fish don't respawn. If you upgrade your fish bag too much and catch all the fish but don't fill it up, you have to wait for the timer to run out, I think. Or was I doing something wrong?
Overall, I really enjoyed the game; it's a lot of fun upgrading your fishing rod.
If i had a nickel for each fishing game in this jam, i'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot but its weird that it happened twice
But really, the gameplay is good and the graphics are also great! DOesn't feel NES though, but the game is good! But the shop menu feels clunky though
A unique and refreshing take on a NES game that takes similar mechanics from platformers. At times the controls can feel a tad bit clunky, especially within the shop menu. Awesome work!
Really see the potential with the gameplay here. The graphics weren't very fancy, but the visual demonstration of things was clear. Very cool demo!
