I’ve only played one other racer in this jam and they were very different! I liked the art and music, I thought they were really well done. The character names were humorous, as well as the dialogue. Overall solid entry for your first GWJ!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the praise.

Submitted(+2)

Great art and music. Gameplay is pretty unique and cool too. It is a very cool experience watching the race. I wish there is a bet system that I can bet on winners to make more money :)

Is there a way to control the mutation at all or it is just all random?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much! Betting and controlling mutations are some of our planned features that we'll add after the jam.

Developer(+1)

It's all just random at the moment. We talking about continuing development.

A betting system was one of our ideas.

Submitted(+1)

This was a cute little racing game. It used mutations in a creative way. At the same time, I missed having other ways to spend money, as well as a proper ending. The mutation system also felt a bit like gambling.
(Fun fact: One of the turtles was named "Torta," which means "cake" in Hungarian.)

The story, art, and music are lovely!

Submitted(+2)

This was a fun game! The idea is very creative, the art is cute, and the music is good! As soon as I got the cheetah legs I became the champ :D

Submitted(+2)

The pixel art is really nice, I just really wish I could pull that lever on the Mutation machine instead of the Button !! haha

Developer

I did the pixel art work and I really appreciate your feedback! Pulling the lever does sound fun, we've got a lot of ideas that we're planning to work on after the jam is done.

Submitted(+1)

it's a very interesting idea. It's a fun and engaging game, the art is well-made, and the music is also good. I quickly assembled a beast that ran the entire track in one sprint, which took me less than 15 minutes, but I really enjoyed it

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the old school graphics and animation. So many mutation possibilities ! It's funny how we can make such similar yet different games. Keep up the good work :)

Submitted(+2)

The music is absolutely fantastic. The art style is very charming and does a good job of mixing the mutations. Overall super solid game, my main feedback would be with some QOL things as well as UI/UX.

It feels a bit odd to have to click on View Racers then Start race again. I feel like "Race" then "Start" would communicate that a little better. Not a big deal, once you understand the flow it makes sense. Also I wish there was like an accept mutate button for the mutations rather than having to go back to the menu then come back in.

Would love to see more mechanics, maybe more stages/challenges. Super fun!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback!

Developer

Hey, I made the music. I'm really glad you liked it.

Submitted(+2)

I absolutely love the aesthetic, music and writing in this game! The gameplay reminds me of Horsey Game a ton, and it seems like it could be super addicting if yall decide to work on it more with more difficult races/tournaments, or the ability to gamble on a race. Either way I had a great time and this is a great submission!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Submitted(+2)

Super interesting idea and I really liked the music. Very nostalgic like the ones from SNES era.

It'd be even cooler to have more crazy mutation combos!

Submitted(+2)

Brilliant art and music. I loved how your animal is assembled from parts of others. But I’d like to be able to choose the mutations myself and speed up or skip the race, especially when you’re the first to cross the finish line. The animals art looks amazing.

Developer

Thank you. I worked pretty hard on the animals to make them look good.

We had plans for more agency but ran out of time.
Once the jam is over it looks like were going to add some improvements.

Submitted(+3)

Cool concept and visual style. Good job on the music as well, impressive you got this many tracks done! It would have been cool to see a bit more control over the mutations though since it seems like the winning strategy is just to spend all your money as soon as you get it. Nicely done overall though!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yes our music and sound effects guy turned out to be amazing.

Developer(+1)

Our musician is looking for work if you would like to commission something.

Submitted(+3)

The music was very good, and I loved the intro cutscene and story. Good job on making all the animations work with the different mutations, that must have been hard! Sadly I got last place every time, my mutations kept making poor Sheldon slower and slower. Some choices on how to mutate him would help the game be less random I think.

Overall though, very good game with a very good use of the theme!

Developer(+1)

We definitely agree that we want more player choice and and control in the game and plan to add it after the jam.  I'm really glad you liked the intro, I worked had and dealt with a fair amount of frustration learning how to make it all work, but I'm really grateful for the experience and that it ended up working out well.

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you like the music, I'm pretty proud of it.

Submitted(+1)

Would be nice to have a way to skip the race once you've won (some opponents are painfully slow), and also some sort of control over the mutations. But overall I enjoyed it a lot. Good job!

Damn that cheetah is fast. No wonder is the champ.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, we wanted more of a game loop but ran out of time. Some of us are thinking about adding some features after the jam.
I would like to have another part of the game entirely where you go to the zoo and try to acquire animal dna.

Submitted(+2)

The music is stunning, I love it very much. Designs of the animal are also gorgeous. I will protect my Sheldon for the rest of my life, he turned out to be very nice and precious young turtle

Congratulations on successfully completing the game for this jam, and best of luck with your future projects!

Developer(+1)

Hey, I made the music :). Really glad you liked it. There may be opportunities in the future for your Sheldon to continue it's journey and become even stronger and more unique.

Submitted

You did an amazing job, keep up the good work!

This will be very cool, I would love to see my Sheldon again!

Submitted(+1)

Wow! This is a strong submission! Would have liked to have something to do maybe during the races but it was cool. I liked the art and the concept!

Developer

Don't worry, we hoped to add many more mechanics to make it more engaging. I think at the moment we are thinking of adding more to the game, so if we do we will definitely add way more for the player to do inside and outside of the race.

Submitted(+2)

Cool game, I like how parts of animals morph with each other. I had a beaver tail cheetah body and turtle had. Reminds of Horsey Game, was that inspiration? I wish there was more control over what happens after mutation

Developer(+1)

Haven't heard of Horsey Game but Pocket Jockey and Umamusume was the visual inspiration. You have a cool game and cool mustache!

Developer

I did the animals and it was tedious work making sure all the animal parts fit each other. Glad you liked them.

Submitted(+2)

I high rolled and completely destroyed the competition in the second race. I liked the modular art you guys used!

Submitted(+2)

Great aesthetic and theme usage!
