thank you!! the coolest part of nature is how it's present in every one of your senses, and that you can focus on hearing, or vision, or touch, or smell, and notice a new level of detail that you don't get with the full picture. I really wanted to give that same effect, so I put as much care in the audio as the visuals.
What the hell man this is my favourite submission despite the lack of gameplay. Audio, visuals, narrative, etc. is amazing and it's so polished.
Great mix of philosophy, comedy and fish. At one moment I laugh so loud that it woke up my wife so I blame you, developers, for my potential marital issues! :D
What an awesome game. Was recommended to me and I wasn't disappointed.
I have to say though that I agree with some commenters that the second half when the fishes started talking in poetry I kinda zoned out because by that time the writing's become a bit preachy. One of the best advice I have heard about writing in games was from Timothy Cain (developer of games like Fallout and The Outer Worlds 1 & 2). He has a YouTube channel and a video specifically about this topic. But the TLDW is a game is an interactive thing, therefore it shouldn't impose the belief of the developers onto the players, simply present it and let them choose what they believe in.
The first half of the game is great though. Really silly, enjoyed finding out what happens in the next catch. You did a great job of subverting expectations and it feels surprising and fun. I really love how the catching mechanics actually reflected the next fish dialogue.
Very close to a perfect experience. Very strong winner contender. Great job!
Interesting. I'll check out the video! One of the most important parts for me was that I really wanted the end to sound like me, the writer, talking to you, which is why it's so direct. The fish, to me, are representations of the people around me and what I see in the world. While I do agree that preachy writing can take me out of experiences, I didn't want to risk losing the "me" in it.
To me, I'm imposing my belief onto the players as much as I would be if I was talking to the player in real life, just because it's coming out of a sock-puppet fish doesn't mean that it's not coming from me, and it shouldn't be treated as an absolute truth.
However, I think this genre is the only way I could pull off something like that, and even so, I agree that it could've been done a bit better.
A MASTERPIECE OF FISHY QUOTES...
and I can't describe how good it is with words, so I can only rate it with 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟!
I shed A TEAR, man! The story about writing a novel and it not being perfect really resonated with me... I started the game smiling at the humor and finished with a smile that was both sad and happy! I really, really loved it!! Also, I really liked the ending song and the game's art—beautiful voice, keep it up!
This game was HILARIOUS. Good JOB, I chuckled often and probably need to go through and play again when I have a moment.
such a charming game, i wish this is actually what happened when you go fishing, i think I'd be a lot more inclined to take it up as a hobby
It was a captivating experience. The pacing is good; there's enough time in between catches to think about the dialogue. A small complaint is that it's a little choppy running in browser, but overall it's a great game.
This art is awesome, and technically is really impressive too! Really tight gameplay, always love a good fishing game :)
It's a pity I don't know English well. I had a strange feeling when the fish started talking to me.
This game is so charming! I love the witty fishes and the way you drew them. The background and music complement each other so well and it's very atmospheric!
