Theme interpretation and application
For the theme I chose "Absurd Side Effects". Throughout the game you can heal your character, but doing so will trigger strange game effects

Very creative idea :D
The side effect which turned me into a cheese was the "cheesiest", silliest thing I've seen for a long time, love that!
Loved (most) of the crazy side effects and cheese lore but dang, no gamepad support or rebindable keys is brutal. My keyboard has arrows on the left side and I just couldn’t get my brain to manage moving, dashing and jumping all on one hand. Eventually I got the drift side effect and it was way too hard.
okay i absolutely love that art style of this, the funny computer thing and the whole theming. i love the creative side effects. i enjoyed it so much i actually want this to be a fully fledged game! just a small gripe, the level transistions seem to happen "twice" or look slightly buggy. other than that, amazing game! may i know what engine you used?
thank you so much. I used GBStudio, an engine that lets you make real game boy/game boy color games. If I wanted to I could save this as a rom, install it into a cartridge and play it on a real game boy! Anyway, I wasn’t able to work out a bunch of the bugs before the deadline, but I’m glad you liked it!
thats so cool! ill definitely try that engine
Very fun game! Great implementation of the theme and very entertaining writing! If possible, I think it would be good if the drift side had a higher chance of being deactivated, I had it for a very long time and though it was funny at first, led to me dying repeatedly.
I also encountered a glitch right before the end of the game, after I got the keycard, I went back to open the door to the objective room, but when I got there the door opened but I couldn't walk past the screen to the next room. I restarted the game and tried again but the same thing happened. I've had glitches with a few other jam entries, so maybe it's just my computer, but I was really wanting to see the end of the story.
I really love when games take a mechanic you are familiar with (like saving your progress) and surprise you by turning it into something new! Your implementation in this game actually led to some strategy aspects, "can I make it to the next area with only one hit point, or do I want to risk a troublesome side effect?"
Great job!
I really like how each save adds more wacky side effects! The only issue I had was that some effects make the game harder than others
Really cool theme implementation, I love the game boy color style, if I may make a recommendation I don't think text portraits are necessary seeing as rosie's in game sprite seemed more emotive than the portrait was.
it seems like absurd side effects is one of the more polular themes. Of the games I have reviewed with ASE so far this one is my favorite! At least in terms of theme implementation. Its not a stretch or a gimmick absurd side effects are truly a part of the game haha
I found the idea of a mouse eating cheese leading to side effects very creative, and every time it dies it adds another side effect. I thought the game's art was very cute and the initial dialogue is really cool. :)
Very creative. I love the side effects
