This was cool!  I was able to understand what I was meant to do - check the plant features vs the features in the guide, and then check the map coords to figure out where the plant was actually from, if any of that is suspicious or doesnt match up reject it.  I think it was a few too many steps and I found myself asking myself why I would bother doing all that.  I think the plant guide with the features is stronger/more interesting than the map half of it, the map felt a little like busywork arm.  The vibe and graphics were so so cool though, I really wanted to get immersed in the world you made.  Overall really nice work!

Hi!  Thanks for the excellent feedback, very constructive and useful. Don't really disagree.  I think it got a bit overambitious for the time I managed to find during the Jam in the end and suffered in the ways you're picking up on. It was my first Godot game so maybe a simpler game with a less unique custom UI would have saved a lot of time. I think I thought the UI would keep it simple just being key presses then got a bit carried away and the low res was a challenge that I probably would have been wiser to avoid. Thank you so very much for the feedback!

I like the design of your game, and it at least feels polished.

Interesting game! Unfortunately I did not understand criteria for rejecting or accepting a specimen; I couldn't find any guide on it. Nonetheless, I like the retro aesthetics, the interesting take on the theme (this by far is the most original of all the entries I've played) and can appreciate the game design and thought put into it, even if I didn't understand the rules.

I really love the retro aesthetic! The game is a little hard to understand, though, and I think it's aimed at a niche audience, but it's really awesome! Congrats!

I actually really liked this one, I found the terminal style aesthetic really charming! Once I figured out that the found location was about looking at the entire row and column and not just the specific square location, I was able to make it through without too many mistakes. Nice work!

Hi, your game is so incomprehensible but so interesting! 😜

I love the vibes and style of the game! I wish I understood how to play it a bit more; my brain just couldn't understand the map system. In addition, the font was a bit hard to read as well. Regardless, the game had such a cool atmosphere, something about the dread of keeping the colony alive alongside the retro graphics gives it a good analog horror-y feel

Loved the art style and the overall vibe of the game! Though the gameplay felt a bit clunky as it wasn't always clear what to do and I found the font kind of hard to read. Otherwise you did an amazing job on this one and wish you a lot of luck on your future projects!

I agree its ended up a bit clunky and confusing still. Thanks for the constructive feedback.

Loved the idea and the vibes this games has.  I wish the gameplay was easier to follow, mainly how to choose good from bad plants. Although following the instrucitons the hardest part for me is to be sure on which sector the plants where at as the coordinates where not very leading. Still great and detailed work, well done!

Developer

Thanks for some detailed feedback. I think your right on all your points really. Coordinates and map need some rework yeah, only got to that bit quite late.  I think I aimed a little too high for the amount of work required to bring it all together in the time I could find.  First Godot game so ended up a bit rough but hopefully there's something to get a feel for in the pain!  Thanks!

I really like the styling inspired by Norton Commander. It brought back memories and gave me a nostalgia rush.

Developer

Yeah maybe the whole  GUI thing and fitting quite a lot of text into such a low res was a bit of a time sink. Glad you appreciated it.

Definitely made me feel like I was tweaking my BIOS settings!

It's like playing Papers Please over Ceefax! I don't know why, but "vaguely creepy thing in a situation not acknowledged to be creepy" always gets me, so the Red Death plant was pleasantly offputting. I love retro computer aesthetics so the presentation was very welcome, and I think it's a really neat take on the theme.

I think I had a bug a couple of times where the plants were reported as being in YB, but the map only went up to YE. Maybe I missed something.

Unfortunately, it seems I rejected too many good crops and my colonists got sick of the intermittent fasting.

Thanks for the feedback.  I think I spotted some issues in the data like you mention. Probably not 100% yet. Your game was super sleek.   Cheers!
