Holy heck, this is absolutely incredible!  (I think) I ran into a bug in my final run where some of the tiles were overlapping with one another within the same grid space (unless that was possibly intentional?  Even if it wasn't, that could be a cool mechanic, to have the screen interface kind of glitching out on you, while you're trying to find matches).  Truly incredible stuff across the board (and possibly the first PPJJGG game jam entry with a proper opening cutscene?!?!  Amazing stuff everyone!  :D

Man, this is addicting. As someone who somehow lived enough under a rock to have never played a match-3 game, it was interesting (but fun) to try and figure out the game blindly. I got 42800 on my first try, and 61600 on my best attempt. I have no clue whether it's a good score, but the large numbers feel good, lol. But not nearly as good as those cascades, wow! The game often managed to push me into a very focused state, trying to find the best blocks to swap, quicker than last time.

I wasn't really sure what to do with those blocks threatened by comets. I tried to remove them if possible, but I couldn't tell how it affected the game. Also the hand on the left would sometimes cover the bar a bit once it dropped low. There's probably whole layers of strategy out there that I haven't found. Edit: I forgot about the cursor lockout issue that others have described as well. Sometimes I lost track of my cursor after a cascade and apparently had accidentally selected a block without realizing it, feeling like I was stuck. But otherwise the game feels great.

The game is extremely impressive for a 1-week deadline, good job. The visual presentation is very high quality, and it's clear lots of attention was spent on sounds and music as well. Getting a whole visually and voice acted narrated story was pretty wild, a surprising amount of dedication to an optional menu item, haha.

Something about the game's story part reminded me of an old DOS game I played as a kid, Cyril Cyberpunk.

I am a perennial fan of Acorn Jelly - and this is another datapoint in a long series of wonderful games!

I loved the diegetic UI and controls. It was hard to focus outside the match 3 area when I was actively playing, but the entire game in motion is a real spectacle to behold. I was impressed with the digital face reacting to my moves in real-time.

I did hit some of the same minor technical issues that other reviewers reported, but other than the rare "cursor lockout" bug, there was nothing that really hindered my enjoyment of the gameplay.

The variety and quality of sounds was impressive. I especially liked the clicking typewriter effect for player button presses. The "falling block" sound felt a little out-of-place, but absolutely not a dealbreaker!

I almost missed the fully voiced intro cutscene, but it was really fantastic! The painted art style was extremely cool. I really loved the second scene in particular with the stylized earth with square continents and the gorgeous detail on the meteor's fiery tail. The voiceover sounded suspiciously like Fletch - and he knocked it out of the park!

All of the music was good, but I am completely in love with the "game over screen" music. The record scratch effect that leads into the first chord feels like magic. Super cool.

Incredible!

I did have a glitch where icons seemed to be layered on top of one another.

Very good accomplishment for a week-long jam!

Super tactile and immersive experience with all the beeps, boops and alarms happening in the background, I was truly panicking at the end of it! Awesome to see graphic design made to be color bling friendly!

The game felt smooth and when block are falling into combo places it is just subpar! We also got a narrated lore to the game which is always a big plus! Website looks clean and except the known bug I did not find anything worth really mentioning.

Maybe a WASD control scheme and a smidge cooldown for the spacebar at the end of the run, but since we have a persistent highscore in the menu it is not a big deal. Awesome work, love to see more Acorn Jelly!

Thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback and love <3 Really glad you had fun playing!

awesome stuff! love what you guys made in a short time! you even put in a backstory!
not sure if it would make it too easy but id love to be able to swap tiles even if its not a row.
also can there ever be a case where there's no possible solution to get row?

This game looks amazing. One thing I really missed was information about the controls. I had to guess that you use the arrow keys to move and the space bar to select a tile to flip. However, this game visuals are certainly my favorite of the jam so far.

Overall quite a good game but I didn't really understand how to fill the bar up. I was matching the colours and stuff but the bar wouldn't fill up by much. I'm not really sure if the icons on the shapes make them do different stuff. The art, animated scene, and gameplay was really well I enjoyed.

Thank you for the feedback! The bar is a timer - it's counting down how much time you have left :) You can add some time to it by matching more than 3 tiles, but it's meant to run out eventually by design.

Thanks for the kind words! Although seeing that you left this comment on every submission in the jam, it is a little disheartening - if you’d like to leave feedback, it’d be nice if your words were specific to the game you’re commenting on instead of a copy-pasted message.

Best of luck on the jam and good job with your submission!

Hey, you're absolutely right and I apologize. I got a bit too excited about the jam and wanted to reach out to as many people as possible, but I see now that it came across as spammy and insincere. I really didn't mean to devalue anyone's hard work.

I’d actually gave all the games a real look and rated them all. Thank you for being honest with me. I'll definitely be more thoughtful with my feedback from now on. Good luck with your project as well!
