Very original math-focused idea! It was really difficult to figure out what the objective was but once I figured that out through the tutorial it made a bit more sense. The terminology of numerator made it a bit confusing, as I thought I had to evaluate the fraction and input the simplified numerator. It could've been clearer to simplify ask for the greatest common factor between the two numbers without making it a fraction. But overall, neat game :)

Really fun math game! The idea is simple ,but with the juicy animation and the great music,  it made a math game becomes super addictive!

I can see my kids playing this for fun and learning math along the way!

Also, what an idea for audio setting! I was amazed when i found out the audio control!

Man the art and animation are truly on another level. The puzzle was a little confusing at first, but trust me I understand how hard it is to fit a tutorial in a game for a jam haha. Great job, truly inspiring work with the art.

That was some extraordinary puzzle, really made me think and remember my knowledge of mathematics. At first I was really confused, especially because English isn’t my native language and I didn’t really understanded what fraction meant. I assume it was meant to be finding the greatest common divisor of numbers because that's how I ended up playing the game

Music is very cool though, I even shook my head to the beat at one point. Pixel art is very nice too, cats are awesome

Congratulations on successfully completing the game for this jam, and best of luck with your future projects!

The cats are adorable, hands down. As for gameplay, I kinda liked being thrown in without any instruction and just playing around with all the buttons to see what they did. But it was a little difficult to discern what the actual goal was without the hints. The audio mixers were a nice touch as well, had fun playing around with those while brushing cats

I absolutely loved the art and animation of when kitty popped out of her den when you press Space. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out the game loop despite reading the hint and comments below:

  • "3 legs and 2 tails is the number 23" ok, so I concatenate tails+legs to get 23
  • "green is numerator, black is denominator" what is green? what is black? where do I see my number of tails/legs and how do I tell what color they are?
  • "example: 24/48. You brush with 2. Get 12/24. You brush with 12. Get 1/2. You brush with 1" not sure I understand?

Sorry! I think I just need more explicit instructions. But with more time and development I'd love to pick this back up and give it another try, it looks very interesting and I want to figure it out :)

Developer

thanks darkfenix!

yeah, I need to work on my game loop more. For your bullet points:

1. yes, 3 legs and 2 tails is 23

2. Regarding the colours: did they all seem the same to you? I didn't think at all about colourblindness! This is fascinating please let me know more! Regarding what and how many they are, I left the hint there to help, if you press it it says.

3. So for the example: 24/48 is the fraction. It can be written as: 2*12*1/2*12*2 = 1/2. So you can use the brush set to 2, then 12, or vice versa. Or with 6 then 4 etc. Just use 1 at the end when the fraction is simplified
(I know its not very helpful hehe)

It was a bit hard to understand but it's a cool concept! The cat was very cute and the sound it made when I got it wrong made me really want to get it right the next time

Developer

thanks for giving it a go Mr.lad! Yep, could have spent more time to make it clearer a bit, confused a lot of good folks :(

Glad to hear the cats pull at your heartstrings!

I like the idea, and I found figuring out the rules of the game was actually an interesting part of the puzzle for me! One thing, I wish that the hint text just permanently stayed up when mousing over the hint box (instead of disappearing after a few seconds), it made reading the instructions a bit difficult. Also, I think your description mentions this, but since you're just checking for factors, 1 is a factor of everything so you can just hit that to win the game. So maybe a bit more incentive to find some of the difficult factors would be nice (I think you sort of tried to implement that with the bar at the end but I think it could have used a bit more). Anyways definitely very original, and I had a good time with it!

thanks for playing mike and leaving a comment!

Great suggestion about the hint hovering, I wanted it this way so you could not "use a hint" by just hovering over vs using a hint when pressing the button.

Indeed 1 is the factor! Wanted the cat to be annoyed if there are more and you use 1, otherwise all cats would just be happy with 1 all the time and not much point for this hehee

100% could use more incentive! You nailed that perfectly! Will be trying to come up with ideas, if you have any random ones let me know!

Thanks again for the insightful comment!

Posting here as well:

Also, thank you for playing!  To clarify confusion points based on comments:

1. yes, you can bug the game by spamming SPACE/Z button. Sorry for the bug!

2. there is a hint section. But if still confused, see Numbers 3-5 below, otherwise stop reading here and give it a go :)

3. Press SPACE so you see cat. Cat has legs/tails. Each leg = 1, each tail =10. So 3 legs and 2 tails is number 23. Black is the denominator. Green is the numerator. So if 1 leg green and 1 tail green, 11, so fraction is 11/23.

4. You have a brush. It goes from 1 to 60 by pressing arrows. Z activates brush. You must find common factors and clean the cats by brushing them.

5.  If 1 no common factors, just brush with 1.

6. example: 24/48. You brush with 2. Get 12/24. You brush with 12. Get 1/2. You brush with 1.

I saw the hint section, but wasn't entirely understanding like other have said. also I think if you spam space bar and the brush button it.. breaks the game? I'm not sure, it said I won, but I wasn't sure if there was more because the bar was at 20? The animations of the cat spawning was great! love the fluidness of the animations

woohoo! So cool to have you drop by, love your videos!

Thanks for giving it a go, and for the kind words have now left a comment hope it helps! Indeed, you can break it by spamming, couldn't unbug it fully with the button sequence.

If I coded it properly, the game should end after 7 or 11 cats (I forget) or 50 or 100 points (I forget again).

It's pretty, but I have no clue what I am supposed to do. I read the hint, but I never got the right number even when displaying plainly the fraction with the hint button. Many didn't end on an integer anyway (like 49/15, how am I suppose to input that on the brush?)

Developer

Thanks Gatlink for giving it a go! Also thanks for taking the time to write about your approach!
I made the brush for common factors, so like 24/48, you brush it with 2, or 4, or 12 or 24.

Your art is lovely and I really the music and how you can adjust it, but literally i have no idea what's going on,  nothing is communicated to the player.

Developer

Thanks Happy Hoopoe Studios! (love the name hehe)

I have now left a comment, let me know if you give it a go or it makes any sense now :D
