Had fun.
Struggled a bit with the controls but got the hang of it later
This is great. We did indeed have a similar idea. Working with the unique controls and focusing on beating the first level I did feel like a disc jockey towards the end. The gameplay was a bit more polished than our game if I am being honest. We were playing with the idea of having different records for different levels but ran out time. The overall design/ui and music came together nicely. Good job!
really love the style of this, the idea is great and so is the execution, only thing holing it back for me is the controls just dont mesh in my brain, i keep defaulting to using W/S
the slow down/speed up mechainic is such a fun addition
one of my favs ive played this jam!
Very good take on the theme, and nice aesthetics.
Wish it wasn't so hard from so beginning though, and the spinning thing gave me a sort of “motion sickness” (but it is different for everyone, so I can't judge you on that).
Congrats for the jam!
Fun game. I like all the controls and being able to change your speed adds a lot of depth
Really liked it the visuals were so unqiue and the idea was very creative feel like the keybinds could have been a little better or rebindable! Sometimes the notes would spawn so that they would be impossible to dodge also felt like the timer for each level could've been shorter or just as long as the song since the song did seem to loop. The songs were good would've liked to hear a more fast paced track for an action game and maybe even have the notes be on beat to the song
Thanks for playing the game!
I'm really glad that you enjoyed the visuals, since I am kinda an amateur at pixel art, so it's nice to hear that I'm going in the right direction :]
I had thought about implementing rebindable keybinds, but I never got around to it, which I now realize was a missed opportunity. As for the note clustering, it mainly comes from the slowing-down mechanic; the code can't keep up quickly enough and ends up spawning notes at their old positions. I also wasn't aware of the timer issue! Each timer length is set to the song's length, and I thought I had balanced it since the timer speeds up and slows down along with the player. However, after going back and playing it myself, I can clearly see that the song doesn't actually match the timers. Thanks for pointing that out!
The song idea and the notes on beat sound interesting, maybe I could cook up a level or too after the jam 🤔
Thank you for the insight :)
very cute, i like the style and how it feels like the record is a boss fight.
Really good idea, it was fun when you slowed down / sped up and added a lot to the gameplay
This is such a cool idea, I really enjoyed this. The slowing/speeding was a really good addition to the game. Well done!
We got very similar ideas!! I really like your implementation of the concept over the vinyl, it feels so different to mine (even while being very similiar). Great job!
Haha I played your game (left a comment there too) and I see what you mean :) It's interesting how we can come up with simmilar ideas but execute them very differently.
Glad you enjoyed our game!
very neat rhythm game! what i loved most was how the slowing down/speeding up mechanic worked. i thought the key changes when doing that would screw with the music, but they actually fit in very well, especially in the second level. quite challenging too!
Very fun little game! Was able to beat the first level, which is an accomplishment for me since I'm not very good at these sorts of games. I think my only critique would be sometimes you're forced to take damage as all three lanes have an obstacle on them, but besides that this was a very well made game. Great job!
This was very fun! I was wondering why I would want to speed up the disc and make it harder, but then I played the second level and encountered the notes coming out from the center, and it became a very helpful feature to avoid those! I loved the music and SFX, you did a great job manipulating them when changing the disc speed. My only critique is that the note spawn timing was a bit unfair; sometimes all 3 tracks would have a note at the same time, so I had literally no choice but to take damage. Even though I couldn’t win, I had a great time!
Glad you enjoyed our game :)
Yeah the clustered note spawning is unintended... The code does not account for the speeding up or slowing down so sometimes if you slow down too much the notes start to spawn very closely to each other. Sadly we didn't have time to fix this issue but maybe after the jam it could be done 🤔.
Interesting idea! It gets pretty tough pretty quick. I found the controls a little awkward, though I'm not exactly sure if something like A and D would feel better, considering the constantly shifting perspective. I like that you can slow down and speed up time, it adds an interesting layer to whether you want to push your luck and get to the end faster, and being able slow down to get through complicated patterns is very nice hahaha. Overall I really enjoyed it! Great job :)
Thank you!
Yeah the controls were a bit of a pain. Originally I had them as AWSD, but it felt hard to use because with the shifting perspective the sides would get messed up in my head rather quickly, so I opted for a more horizontal and spaced out approach with QW and OP.
I was thinking of adding an option to change the keybinds but I forgot lol.
It was challenging, especially the boss fight, but fun. The music and style are really cool!
Very cool! I think it got a little confusing to remember which button was in vs out, so it could be nice to have the buttons displayed. I like the concept and the style a lot.
Thanks for playing the game! Glad you enjoyed it :)
We have put the control display at the first level, but maybe we could have included an option to show/hide them on other levels. Thanks for the input!
Nice concept! I wasn't really sure how I was supposed to use the speed and slow mechanics. I ended up just holding the slow button the whole time and the briefly holding the fast forward button if notes were kinda far. Eventually the fast forward noise got a little grating and I just played the rest of the game on the base speed. I love the look of the game though, great work!
Another fellow record spinner woohoo! I like your interpretation of the theme and I love the speed up/slow down mechanic, and I appreciate how the music sounds good at any of the speeds :D
I didn't understand though what's stopping me from slowing down the entire track and playing the game on easy mode haha
Thanks for playing our game fellow record spinner :)
Regarding the slowing down, that's an interesting observation. We haven't had much time to balance out the slowing down and speeding up against the level difficulty, but for us and others who tested the game, the slowing sometimes seemed like to make the game harder, since the timer moved more slowly and the bullets would start to form nearly undodgeable patterns (due to some oversights in the code) while speeding up actually made the game easier. The numbers were tweaked at the last minute, so maybe that changed something?
Either way glad you enjoyed our game!
Pretty cool! I like the music in the game and also the sound effects!
What a banger soundtrack! Honestly worth it for that aspect alone, and hoping for the OST to be released
Thank you for playing our game!
Everything in this game is ours exept the soundtrack :) We have credited the authors in the game page description, you can go look them up if you want to!
