It's not a bad idea and mechanic and take on spin to win for a puzzle game for a game jam.
I always say not bad, but in this case I mean pretty good.
Thanks! I'm not the only one who thought of the take, but I'm still quite happy that I thought of it.
A pretty cool and intuitive mechanic that doesn't really get the opportunity to shine imo. The last level where you go backwards and do it had me going woahhhh this is sick and then the game ended before it could elaborate on that and I got sad. Such a cool twist, it's evident you could do really cool stuff with this, shame it ends when it does, because conceptually and mechanically this is really badass, and fits the theme really nicely. Cool work!
I'm glad you liked it! I reacted the same way to the last level when I was doodling level ideas and realized how that would work. It was a nice, unexpected property of the level elements that I didn't realize would happen until after I had already coded them, so it was very fun. If I ever revisit this game idea, I'm definitely going to try and elaborate on it more XD.
I just realized you worked on your jam submission with Noah Crawfish! I love that guy’s videos! All two (plus the unlisted celeste one) of them! I liked your submission quite a bit!
Yep! Most of us who worked on the jam together are mutual friends from the Celeste modding community! When Noah gets famous I'm gonna show up to his house and ask for a million dollars
Cute little puzzler, pretty simple but a lot of fun. Could have been a little longer. I like how you introduce the controls, even if it feels a little overkill for how simple they are to grasp. One thing I'll note as a QWERTZ user is that using the character Z key instead of the physical Z key tends to be a little annoying, since X and Z are a little far away. Still, overall, I quite enjoyed this one.
Thanks! I hadn't thought of that, but I'll definitely look into coding keys based on their physical location on the keyboard rather than the letter!
Right as I was getting into the groove of things the game ended! Really wished you had more levels. The core mechanics make for some interesting puzzles and its a great take on the jam theme!
Thanks! I'm sad I didn't have time to make more levels, but I'd rather leave people wanting more than leave them wanting less! XD
Fun little puzzle game - I found it easy to understand. I did get to a level with the X, and it wasn't super clear. All the levels before that though were very enjoyable.
Just one small thing: I'd also love to be able to use A + D as controls as well as arrow keys.
Yeah, I probably should've added a better explanation for the [x] key 😅.
Control customization wasn't a priority for me, since I wasn't sure I would even manage to complete a playable game in time for the submission due date, but I plan to include it in all games I make if/when I have enough time to do so!
Very fun little game. I liked the overall puzzle mechanics, the switching thing was a little confusing at first because the explanation of what X does wasn't super clear or prompted, but easy enough to figure out. Worst part was poor Sam not getting promoted so I could have more levels to play!
Thanks! The X was definitely not explained well enough haha. I had an idea for a mini cutscene/slideshow that would play and explain how it works, but that idea had to be cut due to time restraints.
Sam will never get a promotion mwahahahahahah
What a cute game! The mechanic is simple but fun. You can probably make some more really cool levels with it. I got stuck at the one with the skeleton guy at the bottom right. Not sure if I was missing something there.
But I like it!
Thanks! That level seems to be the one that gets the most people stuck, so I’ll definitely need to keep that in mind if I make a full version of the game. It’s the second last level, so if you want to give it another go, here’s
A hint
Webs are sticky. They don’t need to wrap all the way around a wall to be affected by it
and
The Solution
Once you get past the toggleable skull, go all the way up to the top wall, then all the way to the right. Go as far as you can down, and then move all the way back up. The web should now be stuck to the corner of the inset part of the wall.
ah thanks. I'll try it again with the hint.
Really fun puzzle game! I think if you expanded on the web-sticking on the walls ability more it would make for some interesting puzzles
Thanks! I definitely have a few more ideas that I’ll use if I end up revisiting this project, and yeah, I think a lot of the improvements I’d need to make would mostly be polishing what already exists, and expanding more on already existing abilities instead of adding new ones.
i really like every aspect of this game (besides audio)!
i ended up playing like i think 5 or 6 of the levels until i got stuck in a level with the red skull and a skeleton, im really not that good at these type of games. but overall this is probably my favorite design and creativity so far!
Thanks! And yeah, it kinda sucks that the audio didn’t end up exporting properly; I had created some sound effects that I was pretty dang proud of hahaha. That level seems to stump a lot of people, lol! If you want to give the game another go (you were super close to beating it!), here’s
