cool game! i love how it looks and feels.

the good:

1. the mechanics are good and clear and generally enjoyable. feedback is good. things feel good to play. the music is also good.

2. the player, enemy, and ui are exceptionally well-sprited and well-presented. everything looks great too.

3. the different enemy types go a long way towards adding variation within each wave itself, as adding target prioritization to the mix immediately makes things more engaging.

4. i was not expecting a boss! it was fun and a neat way to end the game.

the "eh":

1. the background and edges of the arena feeling comparatively empty stands out. a simple background plus some world decals could go a long way here for making the world itself feel more "full".

2. why do card effects show their effects on *hover* instead of all the time? also, what's the point of spinning the cards you draw? it doesn't even appear like it's randomizing anything, so it feels superfluous that you do that before picking an upgrade.

3. enemies probably shouldnt be able to shoot at you while you are on top of them or really close. it makes it frustrating since its basically unreactable.

4. maybe more upgrades and upgrades that feel better? most felt fairly inconsequential ngl.

great game tho!! thanks for the entry!!

Thank you for the great feedback! I've took note of such issues and the game will be updated post rating period.

The art music are sick. Absolutely love how everything looks and feels here. All the upgrades are really cool tool. My only two nitpicks are one, having to click on spin to roll new upgrades. I feel like if you aren't able to do anything but spin then it should just happen automatically. I feel like the mage enemies ramp up the difficulty a little too much since you have to dodge their bullets but you don't have precise control over your own movement. There were times were it felt I was being put in an impossible situation and just had to take the hit

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah, the mages are too strong too quickly. Your dash has invincibility frames, but it's hard to know that since it's only told in the game description. I'll work on those issues and update the game post rating period.

Whoa this was a pretty cool concept with how the fighting works! I think the controls could've been just on the mouse though with how reliant it is for changing the focus of the spin, charging the spin could've just been on the left mouse button for a simpler experience. Shift just didn't feel right since there wasn't much else going on with the keyboard. I did wish the walls/box was smaller as I felt like I wasn't utilizing the bounce off the walls as much as I wanted to since the impact on it felt great! I think this would be something fun to build further out though, I could see the skill cap for this being pretty high in a great way! Really cool entry!

Developer(+2)

Thanks! Those exact issues are being worked on and I'll update the game post rating period.

Developer(+1)

It was originally meant to be a wasd game that's why we chose shift, but at some point we changed it to only mouse

Hey, I liked the game that you guys made here, especially the music and the simple graphics. For the gameplay, I think a little more juice would have gone a long way to make the more satisfying to play. Like blood spraying out of enemies when you hit them and some of it sticking on the floor. But I understand if  you guys wanted to keep the visual clutter to a low. Regardless, the game was simple and fun to play.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! And yeah, a lot more juice would've made the game better, we couldn't add it in time.

I really like this game, and it's a good little roguelike game. The music is phenomenal in my opinion, and I think overall the game's art direction and sound design was really good. There were maybe some things around the edges that could need work, like being able to access audio in the pause menu while in a run, and if you start off hovering over a card when the spinning ends, you have to remove your mouse and put it back over to reveal what it is, but this is one of the best games I have played in the jam so far, this was really great.

Developer(+2)

Thank you! Those issues are being worked on right now and I'll update the game after the game jam rating period is over.

Art was really nice, I think the game would’ve benefited from more of it. I liked the music in the main menu, but once it picked up while playing I found it pretty distracting, so I turned it down most of the way.

The controls feel a little floaty to me, and I think the dash is both way too fast and doesn’t give you enough time to aim in a particular direction.

I saw u rate my game and decided id play yours! It is really fun, sprites are very cool, I like the game mechanics, very well executed! There is a bug though, if you die when the wave ends, you get stuck in the 'death state', which means you can progress though the waves still but you are basically immortal since you cant take dmg cos your already, well, technically dead. And one minor criticism, the camera felt like it was left behind sometimes when the player dashes, like it sometimes lags behind quite a bit and it makes it a bit harder to see enemies. But other than that, I loved it :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! I'll take note of those issues and update the game when the jam is over.

Loved the art style, the colors look great! Dashing felt really good. The camera following gave me a bit of motion sickness, though. Maybe it could work if the whole arena fit on screen at once instead of having the camera follow the player? Just a thought. Great work overall!

Developer

Great feedback! I also think I could've made the camera a bit better. It gets left behind when the player dashes.

The gameplay is really fun, and the art is incredible. The audio is very nice as well. The movement feels smooth and responsive. Only slight nitpick is that the health system is a bit forgiving, but it doesnt ruin the game in any way, only a slight annoyance. This is the game that i've played the most so far. Nice job to everyone involved!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! And yeah, the game is too easy. I couldn't balance it in time unfortunately.

By far, this is the best "spinning" concept I played, the soundfx & the feeling of swaying by the spinning is really the best. However, idk why it stucks here I pressed everything nothing works

Developer

Thats weird, there should be a button spin at the top. It shows you you randomly pulled cards from which you can choose 1.

Developer(+1)

I should've given the SPIN button a background so it actually looks like a button. or maybe an idle pulsation sort of anim. Many people mistake it for a static text. But anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Dang, inspiring! you still work on it post jam. Now looks more polished than previous.

Only small part though, when I die I still spinning, other than that I love how you make it bounces. This is mobile-game worthy as well.

Developer

ohh that's what you meant by spinning after death... Thanks for the feedback man, I totally forgot about the death animation lol

I really loved this submission! awesome use of the theme:) Definitely felt a bit easy. I feel like the enemy power scale could go up a bit.

Developer (1 edit)

I am messing with the numbers rn especially the boss should be harder

Edit: I noticed the files are locked so i cant change it anymore
