This has been a pretty wonderful experience.

I've been looking to get into game development for a long time. It took me a while to get the nerve to learn the software, learn to code-- practice my art.. but when I saw Junipers video about a very serious jam. I thought it would be the perfect time to buckle down and actually try to come up with something.

I've popped into the co-work Discord, been following and chatting with people in the forums. I've really enjoyed this experience a lot.
The submission page is super intimidating, and..

I just finished rating the games inside of my queue.. so I am free to rate any other games out there.

I will get notifications from any responses here-- any feedback would be greatly appreciate, and if you're active in this forum and submitted a game please share the link.. it's much easier than picking them at random from the submission pages. It's a little overwhelming when you see the sheer volume of entries!

I feel the exact same way!

I started learning game development a little before the announcement for this jam was made, so I thought that this would be a great first jam to join and that it could give me the motivation to actually finish my first game. Before this jam I had a bunch of little unpolished games with developer art that I gave up on rather quickly. When I did make my game public, I only hoped to get at least one or two comments. I would have never expected how friendly and creative this community is. All of the kind feedback on my game has felt so unreal and I have been loving every step of the journey. Seeing all of the other entries is definitely intimidating but there are so many other first-time jammers or first game completed that it makes me thankful that Juniper decided to host this jam. Both for giving me the motivation to be able to finish something I created, and for giving other people the opportunity too. I have loved being a part of this community and as tired as I am, I am going to be sad when it's over. I guess the best thing to do is to make the most out of the time that's left! It also makes me happy to see that many other people are enjoying this experience as much as I am. I am going to put the link to my game here: Project Helix but don't feel like you have to play it as being able to talk about my expierence is definitly enough.

Thank you so much if you took the time to read this and I wish you the best of luck for this rating phase!

I will absolutely check out your game! :)

I reviewed your game and left a comment! Great work!

This is also my first game jam. I've always wanted to enter one but never had the guts to do so until now. It's been a really fun experience being a part of a community and reviewing and sharing games with everyone! Seeing everyone's work has also been very inspiring and makes me motivated to make more games.

Here's my game: /jam/theveryseriousjuniperdevgamejam/rate/4720053

I liked the premise of this one... simple controls, I learned what to do right away.. I didn't die too bad! :D Haha... the presentation is good, the sound is good. Everything works like it should.

Only bad thing? Is that it's too short!

Submitted

Ah yea I wish I could have made it longer, but I wanted to focus on polishing the game and felt I was running out of time!

Yeah, this is my first real Game Jam too, and was an amazing experience! (Actually, I've made one with my friends on Scratch, xd). In a lot of moments i thought of giving up, but here I am! There are some aspects of my game I wanted to polish more, but I am proud of my work haha. I am really excited to play and review more games from here, because the feeling of recieving a feedback from a game you've made with a lot of effort is surreal!
Here's my game, I hope you enjoy! https://pedrocardoso31.itch.io/spin

this is also my first game jam (and first real game). Been learning and practicing all the different fields needed to make a game for a few months now. This week was exhausting but I told myself I would make a submission no matter how bad it was. Im satisfied with what I came up with and my friends enjoyed it, which is all I can ask for. The feeling after finally submitting and completing was something else. My game is the only one on my profile so check it out if you like, but no need to do so. Just wanted to share because I felt the same way as you did.

I definitely feel the same way with this is also my first game jam creating a real fully finished game without completely following some tutorial. Godot has been extremely fun to learn due to the simple system especially since my first engine I tried was unity which was very overwhelming without knowing C#. Anyway, I started on Monday because of a trip I had to go on so I was not fully sure if I was going to make the deadline but after much hard work (probably a bit too much) I ended up with something I was truly proud of. Besides this, hearing on youtube from juniper dev that a very serious game jam was starting soon was the right kick to push me to begin creating. And not just that, but the community is among one of the nicest that I have been apart of and hearing feedback for your game by people that were actually interested in it was surreal.  Without this, I would probably just be scrolling all summer long.

tl:dr I loved competing in this game jam!

My game if you're interested

I've been a little addicted to game jams honestly, whenever one finishes I instantly move on to the next. I think just getting to make a unique complete game and the motivators of a deadline are amazing, and I don't plan on stopping soon. This one didn't actually go that well, I might have overscoped lol but here's my game if your interested: /jam/theveryseriousjuniperdevgamejam/rate/4720112

I played a few roulette style games in this jam.. but I keep comparing the rest of them to yours. I really liked the way you could go back to the dice. You could have 'juiced' that portion of and prolly kept somebody like me entertained for a while!

You guys killed it with your games.

Well, it's been a couple of days-- the judging is still happening. Which is good, there is so many games left for me to check out and play. I am going to go through and give all your games a shot-- it's a holiday for me, so I am sure if can find some time to play some more game jam games if anyone out there has some links to share.
I played most of the popular ones that are getting shared around and promoted.. but I know there are some more little gems out there! :)

Leave a link to your game please!
