I think your idea is more akin to a traditional rhythm game. (compared to mine)
My game is more like "Beat Saber" where you don't actually have to be on rhythm in a way and the accuracy is based on other things.  In Beat Saber the accuracy is based on how precisely in the middle of each block you strike.
Some call this "passive" type of rhythm game a "music game" instead actually.

It took me some time but I found the game yours reminded me of. Check out "Project Rhombus" on steam.
I actually remembered it from an Osu! Lazer custom game mode "Hishigata" https://github.com/LumpBloom7/hishigata
I just now checked out what it's based on. It's actually also more of a "music game" than a proper rhythm game.

Anyway some feedback for your actual game:

The triangles should be more pointy or have some other way of distinguishing between different directions easier.
Of course you had the color (and flashed the whole screen for said color) But I actually only noticed the flashing while writing this comment and not during gameplay.

I saw you said in other comments the notes were random since you didn't have time to implement it properly.
You have to use the playback position of an audio file to have a proper metronomic rhythm game where the notes don't drift out of sync with the music.
It was my first time doing it as well but if you need some resources or help you can shoot me a dm! 😁

It's got good bones. I got into a flow state after it 'clicked' for me. Could use more juice though. It seemed like the notes were random, which could work if they were somehow synced to the music, but that didn't seem to be the case. Regardless it was enjoyable and worth the spin

Developer

Indeed they were random. I wasted two days trying to use a midi plugin until I just gave up and decided to make them random as a placeholder for this Jam. thanks for giving it a spin.

This is a really great concept! I really like the idea and with a bit of polish and some more content this could be a really great game.
I think my biggest issue is the "scroll speed" or the speed at which the arrows come is just a bit slow, you can see which is next (which is really great btw) but not knowing what comes after that makes hard mode unsight-readable which is a bit frustrating.
I really like the theming and take on "spin to win", this isn't a concept I've seen done before which is awesome!

Overall I had a pretty good time and I'd like to see this style of gameplay explored further!

I think it's worth looking into the rhythm part of the game to be synced with the beat of the music. It will add more to the gameplay and feel. Great job tho, hope  you will expand this idea further!

lacks a little polish, but i love the concept! i also love the added touch of getting extra points by spinning, and the music too.  i'd love to see this idea being fleshed out more

Developer

Really appreciate it! I was too shy to post on the discord server asking for artists, and there's found a couple of bugs I'm working on. I absolutely plan to flesh the game out.

I'm not the biggest rhythm game fan, but that being said I think you took this concept and executed it very well! Like Fritz said, there's room for some more juice and I can also see what Beauport is saying about being on beat, but for a jam and getting the core mechanics down, this is very good. I appreciate that the color of the room changes depending on what key you are holding, it made it much easier to see at a glance if I hitting the right key.

Cool game design! It is a bit hard at the beginning, but I got better really quickly. Maybe you could add a high score mechanic and some more "juice"? Just a few more indicators and stats, like in a classic arcade game! :D

Developer

I didn't know you could even add a high score until I played your game (speaking of, really cool) and I have no idea how to do it, bit I'll try for sure! I plan on making the stage more lively the higher your combo in the future.

Thank you :)
Silentwolf works great and is pretty easy to use!

Interesting concept for a  rhythm game and interpretation of 'spin to win' with the DJ setting. My one criticism is that a lot of the fun of rhythm games is keeping to the beat. Regardless, good game.

Thank you for playing my game! I was afraid adding an extra mechanic and keeping the rhythm aspect would be too overwhelming, but maybe I should keep it as an optional, more challenging mode.
