Fun game! after seeing the game's images I was a little surprised by the main menu, and id rather have had a text box than listening to an audio file for a tutorial. The lineup system is interesting and I see the vision, but sadly I can't get too far into the game as seen below...

Developer

Ya unfortunately that crash is a known issue, one of the enemies causes a crash the moment it gets picked randomly, it can happen anywhere from after the first battle to never.

Subtitles are a priority for us right now as well so hopefully the tutorial will become easier to understand after the next update

Thanks for playing!!

Very nice beyblade game, I loved the abilities, MOAR ABILITIES!

PS: AND VOICEACTING!

The gameplay loop is very addictive!! I really enjoyed gathering enough parts to form an entire team of Beys, each specializing in different attributes. I got lucky with the "Immovable" ability, it singlehandedly carried me until the game crashed lmao.

Only things I wish were better were the main menu/prep area visuals (the battle arena is gorgeous, it's criminal the prep area is grayboxed D: ) and the tutorial clarity (the voice was garbly and I was begging for subtitles). Also a small tweak, I'd personally flip the order of "Tip, Middle, Top" to match the actual order of Bey pieces.  However it's a game jam, so obviously you focused more on making the game feel great, and you absolutely succeeded there!

Developer

TYSM, Glad you enjoyed. The ui and tutorial were very rushed in on the last day and many things are very jank about them loll, Aiming to fix them once the jam lock is removed!
Thank you for the feedback!!

that was a lot of fun! i enjoyed playing beyblade games on my nindento ds back in the day, and this kinda feels like a spiritual successor. the visuals are amazing, the music is dope, the voice lines are serious, calm and just highly professional, well done guys!

Developer

Thank you so much! The voicelines were so fun to write, but so painful to edit as the VA was just nonstop shouting into his mic. I'm glad you enjoyed!

Very cool looking map. Upgrade system is awesome, it took me a minute to figure out that menu but after it was fine. Only gripe was trying to keep track of which one is mine. Great submission!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed!!

In theory the shift button was supposed to display an arrow above your head but it keeps bugging for a bunch of the players which I unfortunately didnt have time to debug.

Did you encounter treeman? (there is a broken enemy that causes the game to crash the moment he tries to spawn)

Submitted(+1)

love how it looks. Impact feels nice. Menu controls were confusing a little and in matches it was hard to tell what am I doing. Took some time to get into, but cool overall.

All my homies hate treeman

Developer

Give us 5 seconds the moment the jam ends lolll. RIP treeman

The livestream below helped. I also hit the crash. The battle arena thing looked great, and sounded great when you connected, extra nice touch making the screens in the background flash with that. Nice little piece.

Finally! A real Beyblade game haha. I love it! The visuals are great, I love the 3D menu, and the battle arena is really amazing in terms of visual quality. It was just a bit hard to understand which Beyblade was mine if I lost track of it for a moment haha. But it's still great!

The only real problem I encountered was that the game crashed after 3 battles. I got a pop-up message on the screen saying "Fatal Error!". (If you want me to send you the crash log so you can try and see what might be the problem, you can send me a message on Discord. My user is @sora_vr.)

But other than that, it's probably one of the highest quality games I got to try here.

Developer(+1)

Hey glad you enjoyed the game!! Unfortunately the crash is a known issue (which we have fixed in literally 3 seconds in our most up to date build). We unfortunately only noticed it after the submission deadline :(

Submitted(+1)

Very nice game! I had a little trouble at first understanding what to do, but i watched the livestream (timecode approx. 1:50:00), that helped! :D

Its fun... and funny, of course :D

Developer

Ya the beginning is pretty confusing at first, its on my watch list and im looking at ways to fix it for after the jam!

Glad you enjoyed!!

It is a nice concept, beyblades are cool and always will be, even if generations to come disagree and prefer other toys! I like the idea of upgrading them, I like beyblade fights.

What I think this lacking is a lot of polish, though. Unfortunately I will have to list some of them:

  • Low contrast in a lot of places (virtually everywhere?, but in some places more impactful than others)
  • Nothing to do during the battle. If there is nothing to do, it could definitely be resolved faster. Especially since probably my enemy’s beyblade will upgrade along with mine, so we’ll generally have similar ‘strenghts’, so it will generally take similar time to resolve and finish the match.
  • Awkward UI for making the beyble;
  • Lack of clear, well-seen, descriptive labels for sections of the game. Like the workshop (does it even have that/a name?), or each of the cards for the beybles we’re building.
  • Lack of a confirmation modal when we’re a reward. “Do you want to choose this one?”
  • Lack of a place to store upgrades without putting them immediately on a beyble. Maybe we should just “click on the reward we want” > see its stats > click on a “select reward” or “confirm” button, or a ‘cancel’ button. And then put the upgrade in a specific spot of the screen (workshop) before we apply it to a beyblade. For example.

More of these little adjustments could and should be made to improve the usability of all the HUD.

I hope the game can improve in the future!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I generally don't really have that much experience with designing accessible games so a lot of the feedback you gave is something I never would have thought of before!!

Thank you so much!

Hey guys developer here, I have added a bunch of instructions to the game page for if anyone gets stuck, if people get stuck please read the game page!! Enjoy the game!!!

The 3D visuals and the main menu music are great! The Bey-building UI could use some work.

Developer

Ya its definitely the weakest part, especially with the bugged hitbox, unfortunately didn't have any time to work on it further :(

The graphics were good and I loved john tutorial idk what he was yapping abt tho because he made fun of me for not having a ability in the tutorial when i already did. Has potential to be a really good auto battler obviously there could've been a little more here and there the UI was a little buggy for me initially. 3 battles in I did crash sadly
~ ~  Overall worth the 500mb download though

Sorry about John, he's a bit impatient. Thanks for playing! Apologies for the crash, we will refund the full amount of this game!

This game is awesome! Here is my breakdown:

*The Graphics

The graphics look great! And they didn't melt my computer too. I did crash, but I read a comment that says it is a known issue with one of the enemy types. The style is very gritty and serious, definitely suiting the theme. The main menu is untextured, but that is not a big deal, it is a jam after all. The signs lighting up per collision is a nice touch that I appreciated. The collisions could have used some more vfx, but again it is a jam so I wasn't expecting anything crazy. The beys could have visually been distinct, if there was not enough time for a different model then why not a recolored texture? I get focus mode is meant to show you which is yours, but a simple different texture would suffice, and I will talk more about focus mode in the design paragraph. I hope that in future versions of the game, the individual parts will have unique models because half of  the fun of building [REDACTED] as a kid was the visual identity's and combinations.

*The Audio

The music is good, no complaints there. It suits the game, and helps elevate the action. The collision sfx could use some variation as it is one of the only sfx you hear over and over. The tutorial was hard to understand what he was saying, but simple subtitles could fix that. That is my only critique with the audio.

*The Design

The gameplay loop is very fun. Building your own personal beys and facing off other beys is done well. There are some problems though. First off, focus mode. Focus mode slows down time and shows you which bey is yours. The latter could be solved with a texture, but the former also has issues. Battles can take a while, most times I wanted to speed time up not down. I could want to slow down time to better time an ability. This would emphasize tactical skill instead of mechanical skill, and this emphasis is definitely in the spirit of [REDACTED]. The thing is, holding shift takes a whiiilllleee to slow down time, meaning to use it to aid me in using an ability I have to start hold shift wayyyy before when I need to use the ability, and the format of the game does not lend you such foresight. The general pacing of battles also is strange. For the majority of the gameplay you are not doing anything, just watching and cheering for your bey. This is especially true for early game, since at least for me it takes a good chunk of time to get an ability. This makes combat pretty much stats vs stats, which is fine. The problem is, while I want to be cheering and enjoying the action, the action is sparse. There are many times where the beys will miss each other, or approach very slowly, I even had a time where a bey corpse made the active beys spin in place for the rest of the match. (speaking of which, dead beys should despawn, them being active only slows down combat and creates wonky interactions). A potential solution to this is manipulating time. You already have the infrastructure for time manipulation because of focus mode. Time could be really fast, but slow down heavily when beys are near each other or a wall. This will speed past a lot of the fluff of battles, and dramatize the hits and wall interactions. Time manipulation is not the only solution, but doing nothing while nothing is happening does not feel great. I still had a great time though, and everything around building the beys is great.

Overall this a great game with a lot of potential, I had a lot of fun! Very spin, keep it up!

Developer

Ya I agree that the [REDACTED] are definetely not visually distinct enough. The origional goal was for each component to be visually distinct slightly but unfortunately fell through as jam. I really like that idea about time manipulation actually, that could fit really well with some other things I had planned to add after the jam and I will definitely be stealing that!!

Thank you so much for the feedback and I am so glad you enjoyed the game!
