Love this in depth look into pour over coffee, I feel like I learned things! Very cool to see your "spin" on it ;)
Aiming the water was a bit difficult for me, but I really liked the mechanic of following the little arrow. It was really hard for me to read the text though - maybe having a white outline behind the black text would help.
Thanks for making this super cute game!
Oke so I was curious to see if there was a limit to how much water you could add and after over a minute like the pic says I think there's no limit, and ofcourse she complined about it tasting like water hahahaha obviously with over a liter of water in it.
But this is very clever! I had heard about the intricacies of coffeemaking before but never really bothered with it myself irl, making those things into game mechanics is a super creative idea!
The visual style is great too and the music fits the theme perfectly, the whole thing is adorable and it's a simple and effective gameplay loop!
Nothing but compliments honestly, this game is great!
thanks a lot! im pretty sure i added a limit but i guess it broke at some point lol, you can also try to not pour water at all ;) glad you enjoyed
Super cool game, but I think I was too stupid for it. After playing for like 30 minutes I only managed to get the MID coffee. I felt like I kept changing the thing they mentioned, and then they complained about something else, I changed that and then they complained about the same thing as in the start haha. I really liked the concept of getting hints each playthrough and getting closer and closer, but I couldn't figure it out in the end. Graphics are also super cool and super nice interpretation of the theme! Good job!
thanks a bunch! A history of things you tried would help for that i think i will def work on that :)
I played it yesterday but couldnt comment because I was commenting too much apparently, so sadly I don't remember exactly what I did, but I kept going between the grounding level and the water amount I think? Probably doesn't help that much, sorry!! I think I was struggling with the body the most
This game has really great potential. I absolutely love the concept. I learned how to make coffee with a friend the other day. They love the process of making coffee. It was with him that I learned I need to pour the water in circles. I didn’t learn all the fine little details you were teaching here. It’s so nice to see a game that teaches niche, specialized knowledge in a realistic way.
I want to see this game become brewtastic, I really do. Are you thinking of improving it? Here are some thoughts for that:
I want to see this being perfected. Do you think that would be something you’d be interested in doing?
Also, if you like coffee games, check out this masterpiece: Barista.
yoo thanks for playing! i will definitely improve the game in the future. In my original concept getting a hint would unlock an entry in the brewpedia (which i didnt have time to add ;-;) which actually goes into more detail. pressing E should bring up a menu in the grind phase, maybe it was bugged for you? making it playable mouse only is also on my list, controller might be a bit weird though. it was also going to be a bit more interactive (i was going to have you weigh the coffee yourself) but i decided its too complicated and not instrumental to the gameplay. as for the text being pixelated thats a result of the low resolution, but i have a few ideas to make it more readable. thanks for the in depth analysis, very helpful for the future of the game ;)
This game was undoubtedly a very fun one. At first I just followed the visual indications without knowing wtf I am to do. But after each mid coffee I received tips on things to improve and I was really happy Yura got more and more satisfied with the coffee. I stopped after doing a "pretty good job" and having a Jasmine note on my brew, but I know there's more to unlock and would definitely come back.
Gameplay itself aside, you really cooked with the visuals and audio. This felt like something I'd play on my old Nintendo 3DS or smthin. It's really hard to find things to nitpick, and even the meme about not having autosave was funny. It's rare for a jam game to be in a state where it just needs more content and this one is in such a state.
Really love how detailed the coffee making is! It reminds me a little of cooking mama. It’s really fun to iterate on your process and learn to fix the kinks that mess up your brew. I really enjoyed playing the game! (And not just because I really like boss’s character…). This is a very good take on the theme! There is a lot of spinning involved and all of it is critical to winning! The visuals are incredible too, if I could figure out performant 3D on the web I would want to make a game that looks like this! Audio is also amazing, the BGM and SFX are both on point and are a good match for the visuals. Lastly, making good coffee to impress your boss is VERY SERIOUS.
Perfect Entry. Excellent Work!
This game was pretty hard ! That's not a bad thing but I felt bad when the girl was mean to me :((( I just want to improve !!!
The music and artstyle are very good, I'm a big fan of the concept and gameplay ! Kinda reminds me of Cooking Mama if she hated you. I got a "pretty good" once but then I felt I kept slightly messing things up so I got back to mid... I really did like the game, I was just getting a little frustrated I didn't quite get it. Maybe something like Good Pizza, Great Pizza where things scale a little slower in difficulty :D Great game !!!
thank you so much! glad you stuck with it, I think what is missing is a quick sequence showing you how it looks when you get it 100% right so you can then experiment on your own and know what youre aiming for. Progression wise there is only one step above “pretty good” so you actually got really close :)
Dang this game has so many things going on (lore accurate barista sim?). Great gome honestly. Love the old school visual artstyle and also just the chill vibes of the game! Even though some parts of it are chaotic, its still a fun time! Audio is also quite satisfying and I would say its quite serious! Overall, great work on the game!
thanks a lot! Almost accurate, multiply all timings by 6 and you got yourself the real thing :) happy you liked the psx vibes
This was a fun little game. I love the PSX-style art, lots of nostalgia from that. Incredible vibes. Sound design was solid, too.
I'm not a coffee person, so I had no idea it could be this complicated! I personally really liked the style of the tutorial here in the way that there's really no penalty from doing poorly other than being scolded, and I like the idea of being thrown into the deep end for pure trial-and-error and then being given specific feedback about things to change until you figure out what's going on (though I'll admit it's still quite hard for me to make anything that doesn't apparently make Yura want to vomit). Also, the autosave notification got a chuckle out of me.
All-in-all, very cool game. Great work!
Thanks a lot! Indeed it gets complicated, the no tutorial approach seems to be a little divisive :v but im glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for mentioning the autosave notification, I was going to change it once I add saving but I ran out of time and left it there haha
I worked as a Starbucks Barista for 2 years, and I feel like my Store Manager is lurking over my shoulder, not yelling or upset . . . but disappointed. Who would've thought a pour over could be so difficult! I think this type of game would benefit from a little hand-holding in the beginning to showcase a "perfect" coffee, and then throw you to coffee critic to be shamed. Yura definitely makes the game memorable, but gee, she doesn't like my coffee.
Outside of my inability, the visuals in particular are fantastic. I loved the low-poly 3d models, and all the animations from grinding your beans to the ground coffee raising after your initial pour. There's also a clear tie-in to the theme, and a very creative idea in general.
I think if I were to expand on the coffee making process here (and I apologize if you take offense to my next words), I would add a mini-game of adding sugar and cream, and then having to stir the coffee before handing it off. I'd say the difficulty there would be adding the right amount of sugar / cream, and just duration of stirring (too long & the coffee gets cold, too short and it's not stirred well). While I'm on the topic of expanding on the concept, Yura is great but she's a harsh critic! If you wanted to add progression, maybe go from a average Joe who will drink anything and work your way up to impressing Yura, our Barista mentor.
Anyhow, I'm off to make a coffee! Thank you for the submission, glad I got the chance to play it! :)
Fellow barista! thank you for playing! Had my doubts abt the idea, but im happy u found it creative :) As for Yura, she can definitely be a bit much lol, I agree there needs to be some sort of progression and some sort of very basic tutorial (i think just walking you through all the parameters you can change would go a long distance). Sugar and cream minigame is also really cool, making latte art also involves a lot of spinning, many places to expand, thanks for the suggestions o7
woahhh latte art would be so cool. There's so much potential. I just want Yura to like me 😪
Canon she likes you she just doesnt show it ;)
Dont want to meet her in real life, i'm doing coffee for her and she never like it :ccccc
Really good idea, good vibe, easy to use, hard to master
Good job <3 <3 <3 <3
The vibes were immaculate. Great art direction and entertaining gameplay!
Small issue, the main menu is interactable during the overlay screens, I clicked wanting to skip them and started clicking the main menu instead.
I'm more of a tea kinda guy but maybe I should try getting into coffe...
fixed a bunch of menu bugs, will drop post jam o7 ngl after this jam i started drinking tea again lol. anyways thank you for playing :))
What a cute game! I love the art style and while I didnt exactly get it I enjoyed it, It made me feel like i was a cooking mama! More please
maaaan don't let me ever be a barista. once I got the controls down i was rolling though, very cute art style (:
haha thanks a bunch, hope you enjoyed :v
This game is one of my favorites, I love the art style 😍 you've done a great job 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing entry! I know nothing about coffee but I feel after being berated for like 30 times that I've come out knowing SOMETHING. I found it very hard to get a good coffee done, but I am sure that's part of the challenge. The visuals and audio are STUNNING, and I found myself replaying the game way more than I intended as I REALLY wanted to get that perfect brew. i haven't been able to, but I can say I had fun trying! Also, I haven't figured out how much spinning to cool it off matters, if at all.
haha thanks! indeed you need a full score across the board in water temp, grind setting, pour count, bloom duration, bloom ratio, coffee to water ratio and you need high enough accuracy on the pour, so pretty strict :v as for what spinning the coffee at the end does… its a secret ;)
Such a great feel through the sound and art design. GOD you cooked hard on the menus and the feel, i really was immersed and tried to pur some good coffee!
I was a little lost as to what I should do, in general, but i guess that is intended as you get mean hints for your next coffee from the barista expert judging your current cup.
thanks a lot! exactly right abt the mean hints, thats the gameplay loop, youre supposed to feel kind of lost and improve one thing at a time
This is, excuse me, a damn fine game. Text is hard to read sometimes, but not unreadable. The music choice is perfect, but I am very partial to this genre (and to coffee). The game feel is what makes this game excellent. I didn’t realize at the start that you actually need to “spin” during the pour over, but I was doing anyway because that’s just how you’re supposed to make coffee. I didn’t expect you to account for that, and much less to turn that into a mechanic. Overall, it’s a great game, and I wish there was more to it.
Extremely polished! Honestly, the game feels flawless. The gameplay itself was not my cup of
teacoffee, but that's just a personal preference. I can totally see the appeal, and I loved how informative it actually was. I'm a bit of a coffee nerd so I might give it a deeper try eventuallyAll the character design is incredibly well made too. The texturing, shading, writing, ahem mesh.
thanks so much fellow coffee nerd o7
Good learning game, i do love coffee so it was fun to learn how to do it haha. Absolutely love the visuals it looks like an old Nintendo Game, like cooking mama !
