That was quite a fun little game! I think the sprite for the flamingo is pretty well done, I didn't get at first that you have to keep jumping to increase score until I read the previous comment and tried again and managed to rack up points quite quickly!
But I am not quite sure what the spinning wheel actually does? Are they just random effects you could get? I couldn't find a overall score or anything.
And also having only 1 health to start is pretty rough :P Having to start all the way over after a small slipup can be quite a bummer if you've been doing well.
Overall, fun and simple little game!
Very cool, it took me two minutes to understand that I need to keep jumping in order to speed up the score generation, but once I did, it was really fun to stack it up while spinning whenever I could. I got the gear.
Its fun. the hitboxes are so accurate and it made me have some clutch moments. Its nice that its your first game. I felt that some sound effects and camera movement being a little more smooth would make it much better. The game is cute and fun. Good luck for the jam.
Congrats on your first game! It took me a long time to realise I could multi-jump to increase the combo, I thought I basically just had to dodge for 15+ minutes to get the achievement. I'm glad I tried jumping in the air, haha. My only real comment would be to try to incorporate some sound design in future projects, a bit of background music and some variation in sound effects can add a lot. Good job getting this together in such a short time as well!
Metagame cog 114/126
Very cute game! I appreciate you at least made the bird flap its wings when flying. Also, when pressing jump maybe make the flamingo to automatically go left or right, otherwise you can just spam SPACE and rarely doge. Overall, amazing job! Congratulation on your first game, keep going <3
Good use of the theme. Nice modifier additions from the spin wheel. I wish the points gathered faster or it was cheaper to do more spins. It could use some sounds to have a more compete feeling. Overall, great job!
**edit- scratch my comment about points, I just figured out the jump combos.
I thought this was really impressive for a first project! I think the assets and the background look quite nice! I was having quite a bit of fun after realising you can double jump to maintain a streak and get more points, though I feel like it took away from the spinning the wheel mechanic since I was just too focused on maintaining the jumping streak. But I love the randomness of the wheel and the vast number of modifiers that can affect you haha. I think you've done a pretty nice job!!
Pretty neat concept. Played a little while to see how much of a jump combo i could get! Good submission!
Cute game, wish the spinning was more involved in the actual gameplay and not just a modifier you have to manually click, and the lack of audio is noticeable, but getting points for jumping has potential, the flamingo could do tricks and other stuff for points, and the modifier could be applied after finishing a combo since right now you can jump forever.
This game is good, interesting.... plus it's very serious!!
simpler game, but by no means does that mean its bad, i did find it a bit tedious that when i died i had to wait so long only for the wheel to give me a downgrade like being slower, but i liked the art
Game I though was pretty good, though it took me a while to figure out you are supposed to jump to increase the score more
Pretty fun game! The audio didn't work for me, but it was still fun. It did take me a bit to realize that jumping was the whole point. But I overall enjoyed it!
nice simple game with a cute artstyle, a bit too punishing though because every time you die you have to survive another 50 seconds to gamble again.
Cool art, and good for you first job, but one comment, the music and sounds are missing
loved the game!!!! liked the art syle and how spinning can add serious factors to it. great job!
First of all, for a first game this is amazing so congratulations!
It was actually pretty enjoyable to play, it took me a while to figure out i could double jump, and even longer to figure out that keeping yourself in the air was the main mechanic for the game, but once i did it felt pretty fun and seeing the multiplier go up was a good motivation.
There were some easy improvements that could take your next project to an even better spot, first of all when you make a camera that follows the player, it's usually better for it to be smoother and not follow perfectly, specially in a game about jumping, also with the camera, try to make it always focus on what's important, in this case while the flamingo is cute, not having it centered vertically and instead having the camera above it would be better so you could see the seeds easier.
as for the spin mechanic, most of the results were negative i feel, rolling for extra points would be a great incentive if you implemented a total points label somewhere, so that the player could see how good they did in the run.
as for the hitboxes, it seems like you made them perfectly accurate to the flamingo and the seeds, which seems like the correct thing to do but then hits that to the player seem like near misses become run ending, it's always better to make the player think they are better than they are by making the hitboxes generous instead of pixel perfect.
the theme is really unique (pink animal gang yay), but it doesn't fit too well into the theme of the game jam or the seriousness, yes there is a spin mechanic with the roulette but you could easily replace it with something else with the same functionality and the game wouldn't change how it's played, think if you are spinning as flavour or as a central thing that your game wouldn't function without, same thing with the seriousness. That being said i wouldn't worry about it too much, you delivered your first game in a week! and game jams are places to learn more than to win.
Finally i would recommend you try to add some more stuff for next time, from my experience audio and a custom font adds a lot of personality to a game
Cute little game. Could sorely use some music and sound, maybe a bit of tweaking on the costs of spinning. Still, simple to understand and play so solid there.
Firstly, what a fantastic achievement for a first game, and under a month of rolling your face on the keyboard. This is a cracking game all things considered. So, first things first, my high score:
I definitely enjoyed this, it's very simple, but addictive. I think it's the multiplier that really gamifies the scoring. I'm fairly certain that if it was just a linear +1 to the score for every jump, it wouldn't have held my interest for nearly as long.
I do agree with some of the others that it might not be obvious what to do without reading the description. I did, so thankfully there were no issues, but it's rarely a guarantee that a player will read it, so it's good to show the same information in-game.
I thought the difficulty ramped up really nicely, I did try to find a safe spot to cheese the score, but I couldn't, so kudos there :D. It would have been lovely to perhaps have a small window showing the score for that run before it resets so that one can sit and bask in their successes when getting a high score. Perhaps even a high score label too! However, I'm well aware I'm asking a lot and expecting far too much of you for a first game and a first jam. What's here is excellent and perhaps these might be things to consider for the next one.
I think I only encountered a couple of bugs that were very very minor. The Modifier label occasionally displayed 'N/A' and if jumping while touching a wall and turning into it, the Flamingo sometimes stutters. These are super minor and I'm really only mentioning them for completeness and they certainly aren't something that affect my opinion or scoring.
The art is lovely, I especially like the flapping animation; did you also draw these yourself?
All in all, this is an impressive first game. I hope you're proud of yourself, and I also hope my feedback doesn't come across as picking holes.
Great job, I had a lot of fun
Sweet & simple concept. Easy to understand which is a great achievement when it's your first game.
The progression could be a little faster, maybe you need only 20 for the first spin? Awarding points for close calls with seeds could be a fun addition and a good incentive to take risks (I'm not sure if this is in the game already, I could only do a couple of spins).
Great first game, all the best for your future projects!
thank you for playing! thank you for the kind words i really appreciate it! good luck on your future projects too, your game was very impressive and memorable!
that's a really good idea, i wish i thought of that. a multiplier when there's close calls would be nice. i didn't initially award for moving a lot but i think with the jump modifier playing into awarding the player for moving quite a bit would be good.
20/spin sounds nice, i think i'd do that with maybe (10+5) cost added per spin. i originally was scared it would be too easy to spin but i think it would be nice if it started out with fast progression but it ramps up linearly.
