love the art style so much! Its got such a beautiful little story and is very easy to understand the game quickly.
Simple, whimsical little game, which had the right length compared to it's complexitiy so it didn't get too old before I could finish it. The added story at the beginning and the end really elevated the enjoyment of it. Well made game! My only complaint is the repetitiveness of the sound design, or maybe it was too strong. a chime noise or something like that would've made the "completed color" sound effect better.
The vibe was really good, sound design worked great! I liked the concept of the wheel, but I felt the execution wasn't super good. More specifically, the random effects really didn't change anything at all for me, fast or slow, inverted or normal, I wasn't more challenged because of them (in fact, I didn't even notice the changes until like the third round).
The color switching however, that I thought worked! It kept me on my toes, forced me to focus, and made it more stressful knowing it might change (which is good because it's a horror game). It could've used some secondary identifier though, like an effect, sound, or a slightly distorted symbol.
Also the wheel sometimes moved by itself, which was weird. And it's a shame you couldn't get fullscreen to work, it felt really wonky (the window even moved around in my browser during the intro cutscene)
Overall, great work! It's a very unique and cool game!
Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback! The wheel effects work on a percentage chance so sometimes you might just get really lucky. We didn't want to make the game too hard as one of our devs struggled with beating the game. The wheel moving by itself was an effect called "wheel kickback" which moves the wheel in a random direction left or right. There wasn't any symbol for that as I thought it would be more interesting to just have the wheel move on it's own be it supernatural forces or just the wheel being old. I hope that cleared up some things but I appreciate the feedback and will be sure to take it to my next efforts.
Ah okay, I think the overall level of quality led me to believe lt was a bug instead of a feature haha (it's a game jam game after all). So assuming it was a feature, I do think it works! And I know I got the effects because I noticed small differences, but I didn't see the icon for it until the third round (it's very shrouded in the background).
You should probably find playtesters, anyone would work. As long as you don't just go solely based on your team's opinions. That's why I believe our game became as polished as it is, because we held like 4 different playtests (and played it ourselves many many times). But it's just my personal recommendation, you've all still done a great job :>
wow, good job guys! unique game easy to understand and horror vibe helps a lot, really creepy something is killing you. i loved random effects but didn't really get this random color change. great experience <3
Hope you will play and rate my game also : 3
very well-made, the art is beautiful and very clear, the gameplay was simple and easily understood, even the random effects where easy to figure out!
A bit shorter than i expected, and i felt a light-horror in the theme of the game.
the gray areas in the top and bottom are a big problem though, but the only one.
good job!
I'm a big fan of fairy tale retellings. This was an enjoyable retelling. You did a good job giving this an unsettling vibe. Even without making mistakes and Rumple showing up, it still had that horror feeling. Rumple showing up just added to that. The art and the sound worked really well for the feel you were going for.
It would have been nice if, instead of auto advancing, the player had to click something to go through the intro and ending. The first time I played, I was adjusting the zoom because I wasn't sure if the image was being cut off or not and missed some of the intro. It was easy to go through again, but it still would have been nice if I could have gone through the story at my own pace.
The gameplay took a bit to get use to. Sometimes it felt like I could get the wheel to stop moving, letting it sit at the space I needed. Other times, it felt like I had to be constantly taping on either Q or E to keep the wheel in the space I needed. Sometimes when I got the symbol correct, the wheel would spin to the other side, while other times it would stay on the symbol I had just gotten right. The differences didn't seem to be connected to the wheel modifiers, though the modifiers weren't always the easiest to see so they might have been. Once I got use to the fact that things didn't always feel consistent, it became easier to play.
Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the fairy tale retelling, I wasn't too familiar with Rumpelstiltskin to be quite honest. But I'm glad it seemed enjoyable!
Yeah definitely wanted to try and add something where the player could click through but we tried to focus on gameplay a bit more, will try to keep that in mind for future games. The random spinning when you got it correct is actually an effect called "wheel kickback" where the wheel randomly just jolts into a direction, I decided not to give that one a symbol since it was more of a take on the wheel being old/faulty rather than some magic thing if you can get where I'm coming from. Levels 2 and 3 had the wheel speed and acceleration adjusted so that may be where the wheel could feel inconsistent. But thank you for the feedback hopefully that cleared up some stuff!
Thank you so so much for the feedback will be sure to carry this onto the next game <3
Requires a lot more concentration than i was expecting from such a simple mechanic. And when I failed on time and Rumple showed up on the edge of the screen it gave me some anxiety lol. I do wish there was more of an indication that hovering over the symbol was working. I was wiggling it back and forth at first because I didn't realize I could just hover it over. The art is beautiful and the game is a very nice, short experience. Do not stop making games!
Very simple game loop but very well executed :) I would physically feel tense when I made an error and Rumpel made another step into the room, that was really immersive! I would have liked to see a "This item has the correct shape, but wrong color"-modifier later on as well.
The victory music was beautiful, closing the short and sweet experience in a great way!!
This is why fast fashion is bad and I'm happy the message got to Rumpel. Great storytelling, gameplay and visuals, and i loved how he creeped in with every mistake. Great job!
This is like a 10/10 take on the theme and the horror style. Very cool game
Very serious, the color palette and illustrations are gorgeous! I adore the sound design! The gameplay is simple and easy to get into while being enjoyable. Unfortunately, for some reason the game stopped listening to my inputs. I tried reloading the page a few times but I couldn't get it to work again. Still a great game though and I can tell a lot of love went into it!
Oh my! This is so lovely. I love the art direction and the narrative so much. It is much different than the pixel art way most people go to. I also really like the poems, they elevate the story so much! The gameplay is in my opinion cut short at the exact right time. Had there been more rounds, it would probably benefit from more modifiers to the spin, but this way it is in my opinion perfect. Really great job guys.
Really smart idea for the theme and great implementation! The playback speed of the wheel sound matching the velocity is a nice touch!
I loved the horror atmosphere and the music!
This game fits the Game Jam theme perfectly!
Could you play our game too? https://amjanuario.itch.io/the-last-tick
Interesting story, great horror vibes mixed with folklore. I specially like how the intro song fits these vibes and how the creature slowly creeps in when you fail to match the color.
this was so fun to play and the art style was so pretty and unique. it has some scary element to it that got me kind of scared. overall this is very well made. solid work dev!
