Really like the concept of this one! But I have to admit, I found it really hard to control from the first-person perspective, especially when I had to turn the grill handle. It also took me a while to figure out I even needed to turn that in the first place - a few customers left while I was staring at my green (raw) food lol.

If you continue to tinker with it, it would help me if the grill "locked" the camera in place until I moved the mouse all the way over to pick up a new skewer. That way I could turn and spin things more easily without having the whole camera move with me. It would also be nice to have a mini "orders up" list kind of pinned to that locked camera part of the grill so I didn't have to keep moving up to check what people ordered (just a copy of that order from above their heads and the waiting bar on the left side, out of the way but visible, would help a lot, especially with how quickly things cook once you get going!).

I really love cooking games like this though, and despite my challenges moving things around, I had fun with my short time at the yakitori bar!

I really like the idea! The concept of cooking each side to different degrees is really cool! The fact that the foods are different is also really great! The art style looks good, and the fact that you can visually see the food cooking is a really nice addition! The game gets complicated very quickly, but that adds pressure and emphasizes the multitasking aspect, which is fun!

However, what bothered me a little was that the camera isn’t locked while you’re turning the crank, which means you lose visibility of the food and the heat gauge.

In any case, it’s a really fun game that respects the theme well! Great job!

Cool idea! I enjoyed myself, but would've liked shorter days so I could play a couple in the same amount of time. It felt like I should have been ending a day, spending some money on upgrades or cute decorations, and going again!

The core mechanic was okay, it felt a little clunky with the camera, and I never felt comfortable cooking more than one food at a time, the cook times were too fast and would need crazy coordination to get the orders right.

I also had an issue that certain foods just refused to go to "yellow" cooked, I noticed it most on the bottom one (the round balls), even at the lowest possible heat it would jump from green straight to orange so I could never satisfy some orders.

Otherwise, this was a fantastic jam entry!

Developer

Oh, yeah, two foods have only 3 state. Originally, we have raw-uncdecooked pattern for more mechanics, but since we didn't have time, we cut it instead. However, those two particular foods still remain because I forgot. Sorry for that.

Oh, that's actually pretty cool, that would make cooking multiple items a little more manageable. Perhaps a tricky concept to explain though without a playable tutorial which would've taken even more time, so I can see why you cut it.

Very strong concept and very engaging to keep everything going! loved having to multitask between looking at the customers, cranking the grill and switching out the food items at the right times. It made for a very engaging game that was fun to try and perfect! Big fan of this one!

Developer

Eyyy, thanks alot for trying it out and such a that!

Im glad you enjoyed it this much :D (and the problems didnt bug you as much :P)

Why am in the credits? Especially as the team lead, that seems a bit... you know, misleading, seeing that I said a grand total of 3 sentences in the chat during development, none of which actually were related to game development... anyways, this shit is confusing.

  • Cranking - alright, I get what you guys were going for, but it tends to act really clunky which seems problematic in a game about completing stuff on time.
  • Cooking time - I don't know if it's just me, but sometimes even on low heat the cooking level would jump straight from green to orange and I have no idea why, or if it is even an intended feature.
  • No settings menu - or any sliders for that matter, which is kind of problematic for 3d games where your cursor is locked, for me the game started with way to low sensitivity, so yeah was kinda hard to play till I upped it in my pc settings.
  • Static menu environment - this is a small one, but you already had particles for the grill, why not add them to the main menu, so it doesn't feel so lifeless.
  • No prompt for food pickup? - once food is placed on the grill it no longer displays the pickup prompt when you hover over it.
  • UI and environment - the in-game UI has very high saturation, which kind of clashes with the rest of the 3D environment which is a lot more washed out, which kind of makes the game feel less polished.

Alright that's it for the pointing out the things that probably mostly were caused by the fact you guys were rushing to finish it at the end. Honestly I enjoyed the SFX, apart from the UI and very flat lighting the graphics were nice. Also Typing I can't believe you complain about me making top down shooters in different genres, while pretty much making Farly's Flower Shop 3D and calling it a day.

Developer

Agree.

- Cooking time is intended for some food, actually, it was suggested by Typing, but he also forgot and said about that part too.

Developer (1 edit)

Ahhhh yee the team leader thing was supposed to be a joke but when i think about it for more than a second i can see how it can be misleading :var:
so i apologize if you got any complaints for the sudden quality dip :kekw: (but actually, sorry.. Moral support role stays tho :P (unless ofc, u want us to remove it lol))

Anyways

Static menu environment - It was meant to show early morning scene with empty streets, darker environment and unlit grill, i even had the idea to have a lid on the grill but we were running out of time as u mentioned so left it at that. But as it stands now, it does look a bit too static i agree

Also, speaking of making farly flower shop in 3D.. we didnt even do the customers in 3D :var:
they are still stuck in 2d (also they are literally the same guys lmao just colored if you didnt notice)

Anyways, sry for dragging your name down aswell, thanks alot for the honest feedback!
Tbh i missed some alot of the stuff while testing myself.. Hopefully we do a post jam :D

Nah, it's fine, it's not that serious. Also not like a lot of people will actually even look down there anyways and they would first have to find this game and know me, which is a not the largest cross section. Was just confused to see the tag alongside my name :V

Holy fire lol 🔥

Really cool concept and great execution, really had me stressed! Visuals and audio are great, the game play is fun, no real complaints!

I only really wish the camera got locked when you spin the crank, the camera spinning is a lot

Great game! You guys did really well!!

Developer

OHH another user had the same problem with the crank handle, but i LOVE this idea!

It would be pretty simple to add and completely fix that issue!

Thanks for playing and the suggestion :D

You cooked with this one! I love the spin integration and the visuals. Even though it seems to be a stressful game by nature, the music actually relaxed me.

DeveloperSubmitted

Awwwww ty I’m glad you liked the musics vibes ^^ it was very fun to compose

Submitted(+1)

I liked the idea, and the sound effects and music were very fitting! Unfortunately increasing the heat was a bit dizzying for me, but it's probably a user error. :D I also liked the art, it was a fun mix of 2D and 3D. Well done!

Developer

Haha that is definitely not a user error or smthing like that lmaoo, when i first tested that i instantly knew  some ppl were gonna feel dizzy :P
But we really didnt have time to get that fixed lol

Anyways, thanks for pointing that out, we will def get it fixed if we do a post jam update!

Interesting concept, but it's kind of missing that chaotic energy that Overcooked had

Developer(+1)

You can try grilling 6 items at the same time and i assure you it will get chaotic :P

But ya, you do have the freedom to control how chaotic you make it.. Imo thats kinda the best part, if you just wanna be accurate or have fun, you can do that. If you wanna get the highest score/make it chaotic, you can do that aswell

It all depends on the player's skill level or how they wanna experience it.

Anyways, glad you found the concept interesting!
Thanks for playing

It was pretty cool but i needed some time to figure out controls especially misleading was that to rotate the food you could press W but actually needed to use RMB

Developer

ohh lmao i didnt even know you could use the keyboard to do that stuff
I didnt even know we could rotate the other way either xD

Tho that seems only possible with the keyboard

(trust me guys i was in the development process too :sob:)

Anyways, thanks for pointing that out! Glad you enjoyed it

great design and concept but I felt less mechanics in this

Developer

Appreciate you checking it out even as a non participant..

Thanks for playing!

I really enjoyed the overall flow of the game, and I could see it being great, though there was a bit of consistent awkwardness around grabbing and spinning the heat spinner, though I'm sure it's the kind of thing that would get ironed out with a bit more time. Definitely a great entry and generally a good time!

Developer

Blue did have to change the whole player controller last minute cuz the last one was.. even more hard to control somehow lmao
So we again didnt have that much time to test and adjust it.. But Im still happy with what he grilled last second (:sob:)

Anyways, Im glad you liked the game!
Thanks for playing

Took a minute to figure out but once everything made sense I really got into the flow. The music and visual style fit together well to paint a really cool thematic piece.

I notice anything other than the a really low fire setting made the food cook super quickly. I was trying to balance multiple items and at the higher heat my brain felt like it couldn't keep up, so I ended up leaning towards cooking one item at a time or using low heat mostly.

Developer(+1)

haha, i did notice that even mid level flame cooks really fast, but most of the code was written alone by a single person (Rest of us didnt really know much of unity so were just trying to support)
And we got the mail game loop done really late and couldnt test alot really :P

I know it can be a bit hard to do more than 1, but with a low and consistent flame.. u CAN manage 2 or even 3 in some cases >:)

But anyways, glad you enjoyed the game!
Thanks for playing!
