I really liked this game, the voice acting was really cool and all the characthers felt unique and interesting. Great work!
Thank you! I wrote the original concept for the characters.
I really enjoyed this game, didn't think turn based game would be this fun, really enjoyed it. The visuals are great too, I am all for 2d in 3d world kind of style
we are glad you enjoyed! we hope to do more with the 3D world! :D
AMAZING TITLE!!!
I'd say that the only think I dislike is the fact that dialogue advances automatically instead of requiring manual input (but tbh it's probably because I streamed it and I don't pay that much attention to the dialogue before manually clicking and advancing it further)
Other than that? YOU GUYS COOKED 🔥🔥🔥
Hello Loisky!
The only complaints major complaints we've gotten are for the dialogue skipping and some mechanics needing more explanation/labeling. XD
I'll provide some clarity to some things in game:
Mechanics.
Suit Locking: You can only lock suits when you have more than 0 Luck. You also click the numbers, not the locks themselves.
(Also yeah, the mistake re-rolling is a pain, we'll work on that too XD)
Suit Enemies.
Spades: Every time you miss a suit when attacking, he gains a stack of Deduction. When he gains 2 stacks, your turn is skipped during the next round. The freezing luck is like cutting you off from your luck (not destroying it). If you had 10 luck and he froze 3, you'd have 7 to use. Rolling for luck (3rd slot) adds to the luck on the cards (the frozen stays the same). After 2 turns your luck unfreezes, gaining it back (if you rolled a 4 while frozen + the 7 you already have, you would have 11 + 3 frozen luck = 14 luck).
Hearts: After 3 turns you have to give up either 5 chips or 5 luck. Does the least damage.
Clubs: His damage increases each round depending on the coin flip (might be every 2 rounds idk). Does the most damage.
Diamonds: Has a shield worth +6. When attacking with any other suit except Diamond and Clubs, the Luck slot is consumed to destroy the shield (If you roll 5 Luck with a Spades or Hearts, you gain no luck and the shield is now worth +1)
Misc.
The Jester/Joker essentially uses the abilities of the previous suit's abilities.
The Secret Boss is the ominous Bartender! Our programmer did this fight literally last-minute XD (some games based off his Godot tutorial experience).
A bug we have is when you lose a fight and try again (and win) you get sent to the free play screen, so we'll work on that.
Hope this helps!
This is my first game (and game jam) and I'm so happy you enjoyed it. We also plan to keep working on it in the future so look out for any updates :D. Thanks for Playing!
I snuck around everyone and fought the secret boss first, but man, when I fought them 2 guys, club and spade by themselves dam, they gave me a good thrashing, only thing I could roll was hearts. 💌
Really well-made game, excellent stuff folks!
We'll definitely fix that up lol XD. Thank you for playing and we're glad you enjoyed! :D
I think the game mechanics are really solid and well-designed. It was so much fun that I played it extensively, I’m pretty sure I even beat the secret boss. I like being able to knock over chairs and tables while moving around lol. Kudos to the whole team!
The team thanks you for playing and we're happy you enjoyed the game! :D
Woah! This is so creative and i had a lot of fun playing it! Great job! You guys can have my all 5-stars!
Thank you for playing and I’m glad you enjoyed!
I’ll make sure to play your game too :D
WOAH!! Where di the time go! I had so much fun playing this game, I'm questioning my addiction handling capabilities! Thanks for submitting and hanging with us !
Thank you so much for playing! We are glad you liked it :)
What a treat. Everything really hit it’s stride quite well - figuring out the mechanics of fights, especially joker and house, were really exceptional. Art and voice acting were a nice touch. My one thought (not really a negative) is that slots are a tough thing to balance. As it is fully random it sometimes felt like a “just keep spinning”. The luck modifiers are a perfect touch to combat that feeling, as being able to lock in and spin again was the most effective way to get through fights. Excellent work!
You guys did amazing! this game feels fully complete, like a whole game.
The whole thing is gorgeous, the mechanics are fun and engaging and there is so much to do in there!
Honestly top notch, no notes!
Really liked this one, it was kind of hard to understand at first but once I got it it was fun, I would like for there to be more of a challenge, I finished the game and I don't think I ever dropped below half life.
Would love to see this as a more fleshed out complete version in the future it sure has a lot of potential!
Wow this was great! so much custom art and unique gampleay. Infortunately in the secret boss, the second time that you get the bullet roulette it doesn't work.
We would appreciate if you tried our game!
I really liked the game, only 2 minor things came up, I usually read fast and press space so dialogue its on the screen all at once, and in this case I missed a lot of dialogue just because muscle memory :(
And got confused the first 2 times I engaged in battle, thought the game froze for a sec, maybe a transition would help clarify that, or maybe its because i'm on browser
I'm very impressed with how much you accomplished in only a week! Great game! I didn't entirely understand how to play, but I think I started to catch on towards the end.
This is awesome and very stylish. I like the UI, sound effects and the post-duel graph. It feels very professional, nice work to all involved!
Very fun! I really enjoyed your game quite a lot. Love the game play and the art and music are also very good.
Very polished game, if expanded, it could be a full release. My only criticism is that it requires some previous playing cards knowledge. I didn't know what the opposite suits were, and they all had the same color. For someone who's used to playing cards, it won't be confusing but that wasn't my case.
Apart from the miss and crit mechanic, everything else was very intuitive to me. The art is great and serves the mood of the game very well. Great job.
Thank you for the feedback! In earlier builds the suits were colored red and black but upon release for the jam the icons had an error (the rectangle with numbers?). The all white was a quick fix for the jam, but we'd be more than happy to bring back the appropriately colored suits.
Thank you again and I'll make sure to try out your game too :D
I love the aesthetic of the game, builds a really interesting atmosphere. The take on the theme is really interesting as well, I just wish the reels on the wrist looked more like it was spinning rather than just switching numbers. There is a lot of content here, you have a talented team and it shows!
The game is really cool, but i'm too unlucky for it . Got 6 misses in a row :(
Great job guys :)
You all made a really good game! If you're going to continue to develop it here's some suggestions / thoughts I have:
What you're doing well:
The fighting has a good enough mixture of strategy and luck to be dynamic while also feeling fair.
Every fight has a unique mechanic and that makes it so the gameplay doesn't get stale.
The visuals and audio are extremely well polished.
You could have more actions the player can do late-game but as of now there is a good balance of what I can do during a fight
Suggestions:
When you click on dialogue it sort of just skips over the dialogue, instead you can make it so clicking on dialogue skips to the end of the message. It isn't really a big issue its just there were times where I wanted to quickly read what was being said and accidentally skipped the dialogue completely.
Consider adding another music track, it can liven up the game even more!
I was able to pick up on how the gameplay works pretty quickly, but I think you should have the doorman explain each action you can do, since I can see some other people were a bit confused.
I think you should be able to switch targets after your roll when fighting multiple enemies. Rolling something that the current enemy I'm attacking counters but not being able to switch feels a little bit weird.
Have clearer indicators for how much effect my actions will have, like how much will I heal for if I use top off, or how much damage to the enemy will my current roll do.
Overall I like this one a lot and I think you all did fantastic!
Thank you for your incredible feedback and suggestions Celestious! You could switch enemies in earlier builds, but it likely got lost in the polish/bug fixing. Nonetheless, we are receptive to your (and all) feedback :D
I'll be sure to give your game a play too!
Awesome visuals and voice acting, really brough the characters to life. Impressive work for a single week.
The gameplay was a bit confusing, wasn't sure if I was supposed to be able to switch targets during the fights, because sometimes I could but clicking but other times it didn't seem to work.
Thank you for the feedback Mysterious Beaver! Switching targets was an earlier feature so maybe it likely got lost in the polish phase.
I'll be sure to play and rate your game too :D
