Hello! I've done a few runs of your game and I have some feedback! However I will preface this by saying that these 'speedrun' type games are not usually my thing, but I still have some observations.
- It took me a moment to figure out that the downhill grind fills your yo-yo bar, I thought some of the pickups were just giving me more bar than others for some reason.
- I didn't seem to be able to restart the level using the gamepad at the end? I had to use the mouse to restart. I also don't seem to be able to control the menu with my gamepad?
- Also, when using gamepad you can only throw the yo-yo in the same direction you're moving, but when using mouse you can throw it in any direction. I didn't often want to throw it in a direction I wasn't already moving in, but it would be nice to have the same functionality on both. Possibly you would need an indicator of some kind when using gamepad for where your yo-yo is aimed because the mouse won't be visible.
- Reminds me of the Sonic games on Sega Genesis! (And probably newer ones, I have not played a sonic game in a long time, lol)
- The downhill grind was especially satisfying!
- The trick mechanic was neat, but I didn't notice and visual difference between when I could vs could not trick (from like a small jump or whatever). That would be nice to have.
- This looks very clean graphically! I especially like the futuristic city in the background. Nice visual style!
- This may just be an issue with the web player on Itch, but pressing escape when the window is fullscreen exits fullscreen first, then you have to press it again to bring up the menu.
- You have two special moved listed in the menu, Yo-yo mode and Yo-yo dash. I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong but I only seemed to be able to activate one of these (I think Yo-yo mode).
- While in Yo-yo mode your bar drains constantly and you move faster, obviously a lot of use for that in a speedrun game! However, I didn't like that it had the same animation as the downhill grind which gains you energy. I wasn't sure which one I was doing at one point until I looked over at my bar and saw it draining.
- This may be a 'skill issue' on my part, but I seemed to be able to get better ranks ignoring the golden yo-yos. I only ever managed to collect 3 of them in a single run anyway, but when I ignored them completely I was getting A ranks but if I went for them I was getting B ranks. This is possibly intentional, like I said I don't usually play these speedrun games.
- At one point the game glitched and had me running down a ledge until I pressed a button, and at another point I stopped moving entirely until I let go of the 'D' key and then I started moving left instead. Not sure what caused those. This is a screenshot of the running down a ledge glitch.
- That same ledge pictured above was a bit annoying to me. If you ran out of yo-yo bar for any reason you had to turn around and grind down the small hill behind it a couple times, there didn't seem to be any other way to get up it without the yo-yo.
- I understand why the yo-yo is a limited resource, but maybe having more than 5 charges would be nice? If I didn't get my aim just right there were a couple golden yo-yos I couldn't collect because I needed all 5 charges to get to them. Or, that might be a skill issue, or intentional design. Not sure!
I hope this feedback is constructive and doesn't come off as negative! Overall, I had fun with this even if it isn't my normal thing! I could see this being a popular speedrunning game with a bit more polish and some more levels!
Have a wonderful day and good luck in the Jam!
