Really badass puzzle game, a perfect balance of the theme for this jam! I only had a few gripes, but they were worth working through.

My first issue was the reference board. I didn't know the reference board behind the desk existed at the beginning of the game, so instead of referring to the first note I received, I had to alt tab out of the game to access the reference I needed in one of the game's screenshots. I was getting mad because I thought the references I was grabbing were disappearing to nowhere! Then, the character references the board with information on it for a different puzzle. Perhaps he should have said "Ahh, a note, I'm putting this on my reference board just above the desk" the first time he got something. Or, the game could have started with the camera entering the room with a full view of the room before sitting at the desk, and with a different note than the rest (probably a briefing) on the board so you're forced to interact with it before doing anything else.

Anyways, the other gripe I had was with the musical notation. I know how to read music, but it isn't so much use if I completely lack a clef to work with! Is it treble or bass clef? I was having a hard time matching the notes up with the ones on the paper, and I realized I was defaulting to treble because that was the one for the instrument I know, but it could easily be bass clef and I'm none the wiser. Also, some of the notes on that paper were very ambiguous, like I'd see two notes on the thing and they both look kinda like a G, but one note is higher or lower than the other but not all the way off the line so I wasn't sure. It was distracting me and making me a little upset... but nonetheless, I guestimated and still managed to win

Thank you so much for playing and leaving feedback! I really appreciate it.

First of all, I agree, I think mentioning the board earlier would have been a good idea. I assumed the player might find it when checking the drawers and stuff but yeah that's completely on me ;-; I'm sorry it was so frustrating! It's my first puzzle game and I definitely could have done more research on more satisfying puzzles rather than like analytical puzzles requiring translators. They were just the first things that came to mind. I like your idea though, forcing the player to look at it early!

I also completely understand your frustration with the note puzzle. It probably made it even worse that we didn't actually use the depicted notes, and went more for like a general "vibe" between different notes (Just whether it pitches up or down from the previous note) since we assumed most people don't know how to read sheet music (me included lol). The specific cipher we used was called the Motivik Music Cipher and we just copied what they had but in reality we probably should have made our own melodies because a LOT of them look very similar to one another.

Again, so sorry you had a frustrating time. Clearly I need to work on that because you're not the only person who got frustrated by this game! But I'm very happy you were able to power through it regardless! Thank you so much for leaving your thoughts!

Thanks! It's still a great idea and I did have fun with it, it's just the little roughness around the edges and inconsistencies that drove me a little bit crazy

Hey! Shhhhhhh... Not here. You can't be letting everyone know my secrets! >.>

Thank you very much for playing! Sounds like you got pretty far if you found the ultra seriously omega secret key! :D

I love these kinds of puzzle games! Very immersive and diagetic. I have zero ear for music, so the notes puzzles was hard for me, but I was soo satisfied picking up the morse code through the music in the first bit to figure out the lock. For the map, though, to be honest, I just couldn’t pick it up by ear, so I ended up guessing every coordinate combination until it progressed me :x

I got the answer wrong at the end cause I couldn’t figure out how to pick. I know I had to use the music-letter map but maybe I missed something.

Regardless, fun game! I do wish the rewind wasn’t so slow, or that there was some volume option (maybe even in game on the tape recorder?) but other than that I had fun. Well done, seriously!

Thank you so much for playing and getting to the end!! Yeah, I agree with you, the note puzzle is pretty difficult. Perhaps I could have thought a little longer about some more friendly puzzles. The rewind was originally going to be the same speed as the fast forward but due to some miscommunication, the reversed words in the song were at just regular speed reversed so I had to slow it down.

Volume control on the actual deck is a pretty genius idea, I rock with that! But yeah, definitely needs some volume control. Thank you for playing and leaving a comment!! :D

Wait, developer! This is the game design police. You've been arrested for accusations that your ECS game doesn't pause, but closes the game window. We'll get away with a warning this time, but don't do it again.

Great idea. I love puzzles, but you accidentally managed to put together exactly the ones I'm bad at – Morse code and music :)

Anyway, it was interesting. The only serious issue is the lack of a truly fast rewind feature. Realistic, but inconvenient :/

The music track itself is good, by the way :)

Developer

I got arrested AND a warning?! What the heck... Thank you for the laugh my man :) And thank you for playing and leaving a comment! Probably should have added a pause menu with some audio settings as well but ya know how it is... I also totally understand the controls, t'was a tricky balance ;-; Thank you for the kind words! :D

This is so creative and on theme! I was not expecting a deciphering game at all! I'm a huge fan of detective stuff and I really enjoyed this :D

Developer(+1)

You didn't expect a deciphering game with a title like "D Cipher"?! I kid, I kid. Thank you so much for playing and leaving a comment! I see you also thought of a music game for spinning as well! :D

First of all the game looks really good, on the gameplay side it absolutely has some fun and intriguing puzzles. The only feedback id give is that considering how much goes around listening to the tape in certain way it can get somewhat frustrating not having more control over the tape itself.

Developer

Hi! Thank you so much for playing and your kind words! I agree, it can be quite frustrating. I had to strike a balance between realism and gameplay, and I think that could have been improved on a lot.

Developer

It is now fully updated but there are still some bugs. Hopefully nothing major. ENJOY THE SPINNING!!

Great sound design and very serious, I just wish there were a couple more hints, I only got one when I was trying to brute force a certain puzzle and it wasn't quite enough for me to solve it

 :(

Also, the tape seems to stop and not be usable if you go past the start or end points?

Developer

Hi Thank you so so so much for playing! I am really sorry that you played it in this state ;-;

I had a lot of hints and am currently fixing them! If you'd like, feel free to try again tomorrow after I fix everything!

Again, so sorry you had to play it in this buggy state, but thank you nonetheless for playing and leaving a coment!! :D

Developer

It is a buggy mess right now. Bug fixes will happen tomorrow :)
