Good game.

Nice Survivors-like game. The idea of build the roulette based on the upgrades is very cool.
Related to the controls, I think that firing and the spell casts could be aoutomatic, the player could still aim with the mouse of cours. But keep the mouse button pressing all the time and spamming the space bar to cast spells is and inconvenient in my opinion.

Also the constant colision with the enemies is a bit frustating, maybe give the player a short time of invulneravility to pass throught the enemies after hit one, it will help.

Thanks for the feedback!

Wow! I really enjoyed the variety of spells and enchantments. You can tell there are countless combinations to test and different playstyles to try out, which makes you want to experiment and start a new run just to see what works best.A quick confession: it took me ages to figure out how to earn XP 😅. I was convinced that getting hit by enemies was part of the progression system. Once I finally realized that the small white orbs were the key, everything became much clearer! Anyway, great job! -Off

This is a very fun "vampire survivors"-esque game! I played a couple times and I got so close to beating it until I got surrounded at the 37 sec mark! T.T The first time I died was just from hoarding / getting trapped as well. I'm sure it's been stated already, but some iframes would've been nice! Everything else feels very polished though. Great submission!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I think that has been the most common suggestion lol

Very well made game! Here is my honest review:

Pros

  • Fun roguelike gameplay
  • I really liked wheel spin mechanic
  • Nice SFX and background audio
  • Nice idea of choosing starting spin wheel

Cons

  • On high levels passive upgrades like increasing damage or projectiles amount are ruining your wheel instead of upgrading it. So it would be better if they were separately

My suggestions/improvements

  • I think there is no point in clicking/holding LMB, because ammo are infinite, so you can make shooting basic projectiles automatic
  • It would be cool to see upgrades rerolls, for example you get 3 rerolls for whole run and you can reroll your upgrades when you want
  • Also it would be good to skip upgrade or having an option to remove upgrade from the wheel

In overall I really liked your game. I hope you will continue to manage it further and release a full game. If you didn't understand something from what I have said, feel free to ask me.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! I get your point about the passives, but I really like the idea of the passive upgrades on the wheel. Do you think making the passive upgrades stronger so you need less of them would help? Or making the wheel spin faster so it is less bad when you have to spin? Curious what people think

Submitted

That's really good thinking. In my opinion I would do both, making them stronger and faster wheel spin. How do you calculate random power on wheel? I saw that arrow is always stopping on center. If you calculate random taking into account the space upgrade/spell take, then I would also divide space of passive upgrades in half

Developer

I am actually already cutting the probability of most passives in half compared to spells! The numbers probably still need tweaking, but basically their sizes on the wheel are accurate to the probability. It may help to make them smaller! Thanks for your feedback, very helpful!

EDIT: Also I forgot to say: it would be also good if you added invulnerability for short duration when you get hit

Developer

Yup, definitely doing that lol everyone is saying it

Wow, playing this game brought back so many great memories! I think the roulette mechanic is really well implemented and definitely fits the jam's theme 100%. Another thing worth highlighting is the graphics, 10/10. Great job!

Great game! I love how I can build my own wheel, its a very creative and fun mechanic. The different spells and enchantments are very cool too. I can see this game becoming even better if expanded upon. Another enemy type would keep the game from feeling too repetitive, but as you only had one week to make this, it's totally understandable. Well done!

Really nice execution, the wheel suggestions you got in the comments are valid, in addition it might be cool to have more upgrades outside the wheel, idk like wheel spin rate, or left click imbuing or upgrading stuff. Maybe there could be some interplay between those? Like you shoot 1 more bullet but you gotta remove a skill from the wheel or somethng. I can see this catching on with more polish and depth but a great jam effort! If you have time we would appreciate your feedback on our game as well cheers!

Developer

Thank you! I do have passive upgrades like wheel spin rate and extra bullets, but they all go on the wheel. Functionally it works pretty much like "shoot one more bullet but remove a skill", since getting the passive upgrades gives you less chance to land on a spell. I get what you're saying though, it could be nice to have upgrades not tied to the wheel.

Hey CandyHen!

I think this is one of the best games where it can be expanded into something really special if you wanted to develop it!

I think it was satisfying building your own wheel. Following up with what Valeriy Petrov said: I think you can make the wheel more dynamic by giving more synergy where you place upgrades, though I did see that lightning got extra from other lightning placed adjacent.  I think there should be more of that!!!  The wheel is kinda your loadout, and I could see a lot of options for adding meaningful decisions for where you place stuff.

That said I had a great time playing, and I hope to see this developed further in the future!

Developer

Thank you! I do have other synergies, like Freeze increasing duration if not adjacent to other Freezes, and everything with Boost Spell and Double Cast, but having even more of that would definitely be cool. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

I must have gotten unlucky and not seen any freezes - but also can only give limited time with so many games (I had real life stuff to take care of and am trying to raate as many as I can this last day!  Take care!

it's a good game but it gets a bit tiring after 5 minutes

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I'm thinking maybe I should add a mode where the game only lasts 5 minutes

Has a nice game flow and a good escalation with the upgrades! Could have some potential for some more variety.

At later game state i got some performance issues, then the horde is getting bigger over time.

Overall, good work! :)

Nice game! I like bullet-heaven games (meaning I like Vampire Survivors, haha), and this game has scratched that itch for me. Interesting mechanic with placing sectors on the wheel, although ultimately I'm not sure if my placement had any meaningful impact on the gameplay.

Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Maybe I could make the placement synergies more impactful, good feedback.

Very addictive game. Only criticism I have is player should have some invulnerable frame when get hit. Other than that this game is very good :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! Yeah, getting trapped in enemies can definitely be annoying

Submitted

Very funny... too challenging for my skill set, but enjoyable though. Good Job!

Developer

Thank you!!

Awesome concept! I was getting a bit overloaded by having to move, aim, and roll all at the same time, but over time it got easier. The spells were all really good to, and this could become a survival roguelike time of game with this idea! Nice job  :)

Wooo I survived the entire night! My wheel did look terrible in the end tho haha, I had placed the gray tiles inbetween the purple once so I don't think the purple onces did anything, that's my bad.  I usually don't really like the wheelspin mechanic because sometimes its ONLY luck, but I think you did a good job making it so you could affect the odds and adding new abilities! I do think all the abilities seemed pretty good too, I got to try all of them except the skull and ice, the skull seemed a little dangerous, what if I rolled it multiple times and just DIED. I also think it felt pretty bad to rolling the gray tiles since that didnt do anything right? Just a re-spin. Towards the end of the game I mostly had grays so I felt like I didnt really get to use any abilities, not sure how you would fix that thoo, maybe grays should be outside of the wheel as equipment or something?

I also think it was a bit sad that the new enemy doesnt appear until like 5 minutes in, it would be nice if new enemies started showing up sooner and maybe a bit more variety, but I understand its hard to do in only a week, so good job!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! Yeah the purples only do things if next to colored segments. I totally get having mostly gray tiles can be annoying, maybe I should make them stronger so you need less of them. Definitely had other enemy types in mind, but had to finish what I could! Thanks for the feedback!!

Submitted

Solid Survivors-like and I actually really like the design of adding in the abilities to the pie chart, especially how some of the stat boosts add "grey" sections that dont give an ability

Thank you so much!

The game is really fun. The idea of spinning the roulette wheel and increasing your odds as you level up is a clever mechanic that fits the theme really well. The art is beautiful too.

I know it's hard to add everything during a game jam, but if you decide to keep developing the project, I think it would be awesome to add an upgrade system where collecting duplicate copies of the same spell makes it stronger. Maybe placing matching spells next to each other on the roulette wheel could also increase their power, or even merge them into a stronger version when you have four of the same spell side by side. Just an idea! I also think adding more enemy variety would make the game even better.

Congratulations on a great game!

Developer

Thank you so much! There are some ways of basically doing what you're saying, like if you land on a Double Cast between two of the same spell, it'll cast the spell with double damage, and the "matching spells next to each other" is kind of what I'm doing for Lightning, but I do think it could be cool to have more powerscaling mechanics like that, especially that "merging" idea. Great feedback!

This is a really fun survival game! I love being able to customize the wheel and how each spell felt. The only issues I had was the knockback with the enemies knocks me back into other enemies and makes it really annoying to get away since they block you with collision, and I didn't know the grey upgrades were passive effects. I thought you got them each time you rolled on them. I really liked this game though; it was a lot of fun! Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm definitely rethinking the knockback, probably should've given the player more invincibility.

Submitted

Now THAT was an addicting survival game! I loved how I could customize the wheel how i wanted it with each upgrade, placing the spells where I wanted too, and with so many spells to get, it was fun seeing all the colors on the wheel wondering what Spell i would get! Magic missals was definitely my favorite spell lol. Amazing game and amazing work, Good Job!
