Really fun puzzler! I haven't understood the height system until quite late, and I wish there was a way to tell exactly how high a tile is, since the game mentions some tiles like height 5 or whatever, but I can't know for sure at what height any one is.
I'd also have liked to be able to see upcoming tiles, so I can plan my next move better, and to have the tiles that allow you to expand the isle as separate chunks, as in lets say every 10-20 points you get 3 tiles which are purely expansion, instead of having them mixed with other normal tiles.
It would also be nice to rotate the camera so I can get a nice picture of my city, along with maybe weather effects :). Also, an in game wiki or something to show me all possible tile types would be nice, as well as letting me be able to learn them at my own pace.
Some limits for the camera and animations for tiles as well as the sea would also look amazing!
And lastly, I think this game could be further developed to be level based, like each one asking you to reach a certain amount of score, with different starting island sizes and different pools of tiles that you can get. There's lots of possibilities with this game, and I hope you will expand it further post-jam as it clearly holds a lot of potential!
This is very awesome and very detailed feedback! All good ideas and I will totally look into each and every one of these suggestions!! Thank you for the feedback and I am glad you enjoyed the game!
This is such a great and cozy game! Very reminiscent of Dorfromantik, but having three tiles and being able to place tiles on top of others adds a lot of different variety and strategy
Sometimes when I placed tiles on top they would merge together (eg I’ve got a windmill inside of a mountain in the middle of my island) and sometimes they would get replaced or do nothing - this wasn’t entirely clear to me as to why or if it was even intended? If merged tiles are indeed intended, then it would be nice for those to have a special animation, and some way of inspecting the tile to see what the new rules are for it (if this isn’t actually a game mechanic, then perhaps that could be an interesting thing to add in)
Other than that I really enjoyed my time with this one! The music and art really work together well to make such a chill vibe - awesome work!!
Thank you for the positive review! I am glad you enjoyed the game. Original intention was just to replace the tile underneath, but sounds like I need to optimize the game so they don't merge weirdly... and maybe make that a feature or something!
Very cool little puzzle game! All of the synergies are cool, but there are a lot of them, so I don't think I'm smart enough to think too strategically about this one beyond trying to grow my island when i can to open up more possibilities. My first time through I mostly ended up just randomly hovering and spinning until I found something that didn't lose too many points. I think if you wanted to discourage that behavior, you could consider showing only +/- for each tile (this tile's score will go up, or this tile's score will go down) without the magnitude. But I liked it as-is (and my second pass through I did a little bit better). I'm by no means an expert city-builder, but I got 159 on my second run (the other comments confirm that I am a bad city builder) and it was cool to be able to stop and screenshot my city afterward.
Love the graphical style. The music is very nice, too, though it gets a little repetitive given the length of the game.
I had three thoughts about UI / QoL things:
Despite those nitpicks, I really enjoyed this game! Very cozy puzzler. Great work all-around!
Thank you for this very detailed feedback! I am glad you enjoyed the game. These recommendations on UI / QOL are things I will definitely think about when I have more time for it! Thank you!
The game idea is good. The mood and the visuals are also good.
I didn't realize that I can stack hexagons at the very end. I didn't see anywhere mentioned it, I read the tips about height, but I didn't get that I had to stack pieces.
Also the camera doesn't have limits and you can zoom out too far, or zoom in and pass through the hexagons. Another detail to improve the experience is that is hard to see when you cannot put a cell.
A part of this minor things, I like the game ( score: 224)
I love the vibe of this game! It's so quite, chill, i forgot for a second I have to go to work tomorrow haha. Really enjoyed it. Great job! The one thing I would change, make it more obvious when you are not allowed to place a building somewhere. I lost a couple of minutes, calculating how many more points I would get just to find out I cannot place it there.
I LOVE THIS!!
I really like city builders in general and this is a very simple and this whole game is cozy and cute, very fun to play!
I did encounter a few minor bugs, The 2nd run I did I was able to build a castle offshore, which I dont think is supposed to be possible.
And my first run was cut short by a tiiiny bug where literally my whole screen turned grey hahaha :P
But that doesn't take away anything from this game! I had great fun and honestly wouldn't mind a slightly more complex version even! Well done!
Pics below of the bugs
OOOH I was playing again and I found out the grey screen is not a bug, It's what happens when the camara goes through the floor and I didn't realize!
Sounds like I constrain the camera movement a bit - noted!
It was my cats fault, he was on my desk infront of me while I played and probably pressed the spacebar slightly with his butt.
But yeah you could clamp the minimum camera height or something so it can't get below the floor, that would get rid of the problem.
edit: that made no sense, spacebar makes you go up not down... idk what happened then XD
Thanks for the feedback and the bug finding! I will definitely have to look into both of these when I get the time. Congrats on breaking my game XD even though I am sure others can if they tried.
This game is really chill and fun! I've had to try starting it a few different times, though, because it feels a bit overwhelming at the beginning. The tiles can have tips with many different variables, so there's a pretty big mental load right off the bat (which put me off the game the first time around). I think the game would really benefit from a tutorial with simpler tiles and fewer variables, so the player can understand the different mechanics before being thrown into the wild. That said, I understand there were only seven days to make the game, so you did an absolutely great job, because once I understood how the tiles worked and internalized some of the placement rules, I started to have a blast. The balance between randomness and strategy is just right for me, and I think you've built the strongest foundation for a truly engaging cozy game.
Thank you for the positive feedback. I am glad you enjoyed my game! Definitely more ideas for after the jam. Thank you!
That was a nice calm experience for a change. Really liked the atmosphere and that you have made an improvement to dorfromantik, giving it a whole new dimension(up xD). Liitle things that could be improved would be a longer song loop, graying out the tiles on wrong move (tiles with stuff on water) aswell as some ending scene when all tiles are placed. but those are just small things, the game is solid and was very pleasing. great work!
Thank you for the positive feedback. I am glad you enjoyed my game, and I am glad you found the game calm! Dorfromantik was one of my inspirtations for making this game. End scene is very much needed. Thank you!
This is very nice, thank you for having green and red numbers indicating better placements, I think only going off the tips and scanning all the types of tiles I have placed down would have been painful otherwise. I got the gear.
This was a fun game, I like the whole placing tiles to build things. The ui could do with some work. On the map itself you could pins telling you when this location gives you more or less score. For the info on the bottom left, a dark backdrop could make it more readable, with certain works colour coded to make it clearer which tiles are good/bad. Cool entry.
I like the arrangement setup. I should have read comments first because I made the same mistake as others and didn't start expanding my footprint until towards the end. Great submission!
Yeahhhh it definitely needs more music variety... I wasn't expecting this much playtime from people to the point where the music is starting to feel old, but that would definitely be something I fix after the jam. Thanks for playing!
What a nice highscore in the preview, be a shame if someone destroyed it ... (feel free to use this one :D)
The amount of buildings whas quite overwhelming. At the start it was fun to pay attention to, in the end it became less strategic and more "Hovering the tile around the island, looking for green numbers". I honestly think that half the amount of buildings would make for more careful and enjoyable gameplay! Or implementing tile 'rarity' so that some buildings give much higher scores but have a low chance of appearing.
But as you can tell from my screenshot, none of these factors stopped me from enjoying your lovely game in the slightest <3
Thanks for the feedback, I am glad you enjoyed the game! I may update the score when the game jam is over (I don't want to touch anything that might disqualify me). Rarities / less tiles is definitely a good idea, or maybe having levels that prioritize certain tile choices. Options options :)
I thought changing the description is ok? I updated the description on my game just today and it's fine, it even said the jam submission locks new file uploads on the edit page, but nothing else was highlighted.
But it's probably best to be on the safe side and leave it for after the jam either way ^^
Okay this really got me hooked. A little work on the colors and visual as right now the screen has too much information but overall 10/10
Very nice looking and great music! Had fun with this one!
I played through one game until I ran out of tiles. My end score was 235. Early on I was not expanding the island at all, and then I realized I really should have done so sooner, as my choices were sometimes not where can I best place this tile to gain points, but to how do I lose the fewest points. After that I expanded at every opportunity, while trying continue building up what I had. This was fun to play, and I will be suggesting it to my partner and kids.
It would be nice if the semi-transparent background for the opening text was a bit darker/more opaque to add contrast and improve readability of the text. The text in general could be hard to read sometimes, depending on what was behind it, though the Tips do have to balance being readable and not blocking the play field.
I like the tips showing up, especially as a new player. I wasn't always sure what I had and the text made sure I knew, along with the tips on where to place. If you continue working on this, it would be nice if there was an option to disable them for those who don't want them. Perhaps also options to adjust the font size (larger or smaller), and if they have a background.
The red and green numbers popping up were helpful in making decisions, though adding them all up often did not match the change in my score after placing a tile. It would be nice if there was more clarity on how your score will change, as several times something that looked really good ended up being very minimal. Later in the game as things got crowded, and tall, I wasn't always sure what was in each spot, so those numbers were really nice to have, and I wish I could have trusted them more.
Thank you for the positive and very detailed feedback! I would definitely like to continue working on this game after the jam finishes, and this feedback is definitely helpful. Hopefully with time I can increase the visual appeal of the game / text.
I have a few more ideas for informing users about what tiles they like to be next to / what they are called, but the tips / score system were added with the time I had to hopefully make it easier to pick up this game as a jam game. Score system being wrong is something I will have to look into more, as there was minimal playtesting done during development of it.
What a lovely experience this was. Such a nice atmosphere with the music and the graphics which complement each other nicely. I wish there was a little more structure, like different difficulties with more/fewer tiles or a different sized starting area. Also, possibly tying expansion to some ability you always have access to, rather than relying on RNG - it was good to overwrite previous parts of the village at times, but sometimes I felt so bad! Awesome stuff though, great job with it.

Really cute and cozy game. I feel like with a bit of juice it could be an actually released game! Great work!
Really interesting idea with a very cozy vibe! I found myself relying much more on the green plus numbers than the descriptions for placing new tiles, but still had to stop and think about where I was placing. The game also has a very nice art style. Good job!
Quite a cute and cozy tile-based puzzle game. The music did get a little repetitive after a while, especially since the only other SFX was the quiet tap whenever you place a tile. There's a strategy to placing tiles, but the game doesn't really punish you from just spinning tiles and hovering your mouse over different areas until you find green numbers. Adding a punishment to not reading and understanding how tiles interact could help to improve the puzzle aspect of the game
Overall, a fun time and something I could see myself playing to pass the time during a commute!
