This was a nice experience. I love how forgiving it is as well.

This was a fun experience! This would be great expanded into multiple scenarios in multiple such banks. I have mixed feelings on being try again immediately on questions I got wrong (rather, the lack of consequences since you can't really fail the whole thing). On the one hand, it did allow me to mess around and hear some responses to wrong answers, on the other I didn't feel compelled to actually observe very closely since it came down to a bit of trial and error. One way the memory part of it could be more meaningful while still allowing the questions to be retried individually, would be to integrate it more in the heist process itself. In an expanded version, I can see that being a neat feature: needing to observe during the day to carry out the perfect heist at night.

Very similar in style to Henry Stickman games

This was just fun, it gave me very a strong vibe of 2000's era Flash games (which I have fond memories of). You did a really good job incorporating the parts of the story naturally in the environment and being able to jump back to the heist to check things was a great QoL feature. I could see a bigger game taking this element and using it for several scenes with different characters, my advice then would be to try to add some 'noise' in the background. Things that look like they might be important, but aren't (or intentionally misdirect from the right answer). Anyway, good job getting this done! :D

Metagame cog 100/126 (nice milestone for your game, woo!)

100 cogs is insaaaane. Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed!

Very funny! I liked it a lot! I think it would be even better if the loose condition would be presented at the end though. Like, you're able to answer all questions before you got to know if it was believable or not. At the moment you could just click retry until you got it and that took away the need to go back and redo the heist to search for more clues.

But I liked the scope and the experience as a whole. I would say it's a great submission! :D

Kinda reminds me of the Henry Stickmin games I played as a kid. Pretty cool, I don't know what this has to do with spinning though.

Developer

Thanks for playing! It was an interpretation of the theme based on the phrase "Spin a story"

Now this was a heist worth remembering. It's very rare to have a game with good comedy for a jam but you managed to achieve that here. I think it would be cool after the jam to see more scenarios or options where they lead you down a path but that path is eventually a dead end. Nice game :D

Submitted(+1)

Very funny. Seriously.

Some options seemed like they could have been valid too though (at least the one for the bag). Creative way to apply the theme more than once :)

Fun concept! And bless you for allowing question retries and not restarting the whole thing! Great job!

I wished I could use Yo Mama as an actual option. 10/10 would play again

Pretty fun game! reminds me of games I used to play as a kid, in a good way. Only constructive feedback would be I wish there was more of it or more options/paths akin to henry stickman, but I mean this is a gamejam, so I def understand why not lol. Fun and serious game tho. Def worth remembering!

pretty funny dialogues, and who do not love robbing? pretty idea. congrats ( all of that was pretty SERIOUS )

This really surprised me! I thought it would just be a simple puzzle game about robbing a bank, but when the interrogation started, I locked in!! I really liked the structure, and I think it would be really cool to see more levels (not necessarily heists) where we have to puzzle our way out of an interrogation.

However, I think some questions are stronger than others. My favorite was the one about the month (avoiding spoilers), because the answer wasn't something directly given to the player, but rather a clue you had to interpret. I think that made the game richer and more engaging, so I would have leaned even more into that That said, I understand you needed to introduce the game's idea with simpler questions, and the time frame for making the game was really short, so this doesn't take away from what you made in the slightest!

Hello! I played your game to completion, and I have some feedback for you:

  • Never talk to cops! Get a lawyer.
  • I like the idea behind the interpretation of the theme, but I didn't feel like it came through very strongly in gameplay. It was mostly just a memory game? I suppose you 'spin' the answers to pick but idk.
  • A couple of the questions tripped me up:
    • The second one, but that's my bad I just missed the 'we're hiring' sign.
    • The third one... I get that you're supposed to know about the bathroom from the security camera, but the other three choices all seemed viable to me? Like, yes the guard was sleeping, but in the scenario we're spinning we're there for a job application so. IDK. Maybe just me.
    • The final question I thought for sure would relate to the note that the parking lot security camera was broken on the monitor in the breakroom, but that wasn't even an option.
      • If you don't have a duffel bag how are you even carrying that much money?
  •  Is the cops name a pun? I feel like it might be but... I don't get it if it is.
  • I like that the game has a pause menu, a lot of the games I've been rating didn't even bother with that! Settings would be nice but I suppose the only real setting in this game would be music volume.
  • They caught you red handed! Get it? ... cuz you're... cuz you're red.
  • Music was decently tense. Felt like an interrogation scene.
  • Seriously never talk to cops.

That's about all I've got on this one. Hopefully none of that sounds too negative, I try to leave constructive feedback on every game I rate! I didn't feel like I had too much to say about this one though, it was a pretty simple concept - that's not a bad thing! It was a fun little memory puzzle.

Have a wonderful day and good luck in the Jam!

-- SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO'S IN THE REVIEWS AND HASN'T PLAYED YET--

Thank you for the extensive feedback! Honestly almost all my comments didn't mention anything about areas of improvement so it's refreshing to see criticism. I think your concerns are very valid and to be honest, this was a lot trickier of a concept to build around than it mightve seemed. I had to go through several iterations of dialogue before I landed on something that made enough sense for me to be happy with.

To clarify, for the final question the clue is in what the officer says before. "We saw you on cameras outside" is a lie since the parking lot cams were out of order, so even if there was a bag (which I didn't get around to drawing Red guy has very big pockets), it would be feasible to play dumb about it. That being said, a lot of the interrogation scene logic breaks when you think beyond the info provided. Like they could easily get statements from the employee, or they could be talking about street cameras. But I tried to keep it in the realm of believability for the scope of the game.

Offi-ser-i-ous :) The red-handed pun was actually entirely unintentional, so I'm glad you pointed that out LOL

(Yes, this cop is designed to be horrendously unethical, so I'm with you there)

Though I didnt entirely get where the spinning came in the game was very funny and enjoyable lol, felt very toby fox humor in a sense which I adore. 100% didnt get stuck on the first part... I Also think it would be cool if there were a punishment for getting a question wrong, as right now i can kinda just constantly trail and error questions without even remembering much.

Developer (1 edit)

It was mostly an alternative interpretation. "Spinning a narrative" is an idiom for basically falsifying events or manipulating things like media. Tbh, I'm not completely happy with how the theme landed in my execution, but I tried to make the most of it. I really wanted to put in a counter for how many times you had to retry for that extra incentive to answer each question carefully, but I didnt have enough time to put that in. I'm glad you liked the humor! That was honestly my favorite part of making this
