Hello! I've played a few runs of your game and I have some feedback for you!

  • It took me a few tried to realize the knife flies to where your mouse is pointed. I thought the camera viewfinder was an aim reticle and I was wondering why I couldn't move it.
  • All those people seem pretty happy to have knives thrown at them.
  • Sometimes my knives seemed to go through the wheel? I don't think they registered when they did, but I found it hard to focus on the wheel and the money/ratings at the same time so I'm not 100% sure.
  • Took me a few runs to realize the camera battery was your lives, and different body parts were worth different amounts.
    • Or maybe head is worth 3 but everything else is worth 1?
  • The warnings when you first load up the game are really nice to have!
  • I'm sure this game has an ending of some kind if you get to $500,000 based on the opening movie, but I did not get that far, I got to maybe like $35,000 on my best run. (I think. Again, I found it hard to focus on how much money I actually earned). I felt like I should get told on the gameover screen how much money/viewers I did get so I could compare with others.
  • I never quite figured out, is the amount of viewers you gain tied to the distance from any hitbox (like, how close you got to their arm) or the distance from center mass? And then, you gain money based on your viewer count when the person on the wheel changes?

Overall I thought this was a very interesting take on the theme! I hope my feedback didn't seem too negative, I try to leave some constructive feedback on every game I rate.

Have a wonderful day and good luck in the Jam!

Hey! Thank you for the thorough feedback! Always nice to get more than less, so we can figure out what to improve and what to avoid. Just going to respond to some of it below, bullet-by-bullet:

  • Not the first time someone has brought up the camera overlay messing up aim. We'll be addressing that post-jam.
  • The smiling thing is weird, definitely agree.  I will say, I think I just made the conscious decision to have them smile instead of not smile because it felt wrong for me to have the player throwing knives at people who may look like they don't want to be there. Got a little too dark for myself to have them frown or look scared. Was thinking of having them be criminals or debtors like your character--kind of like a "Saw" scenario--might pivot to that. I'm still not sure if I want to tweak them yet, but I do appreciate you calling it out as "off".
  • Knife going through the wheel is a bug. In terms of money/rating, and having difficulties balancing that while looking at the wheel is a good callout. I have an idea of how to address that. We might add, like a wheel stop that shows winnings per spin, or even just have it update when the knife hits the wheel. Either way, we'll talk about that and get a solution in post-jam.
  • Good call-out on the camera battery as lives thing. We'll work on how to better communicate that or the implications surrounding that. Right now, it's a bit bugged; they should be equal, but sometimes the body parts won't register as a life lost (only the head will).
  • Thanks for the appreciation of the warnings. I'm wondering if we can spice that up more or zhuzh it up for more tips and things to know. We'll be talking about that post-jam.
  • Thanks for the call-out on the $500,000. We could adjust the numbers better to make the game more reasonable to win. Last-minute game balancing before the jam submission. Seems like a trend for many. We could also prolly add a scorecard at the end, so players know how they finish.
  • The number of viewers gained is tied to the distance from the hitbox. Every 100 viewers gives you a flat bonus of $50. That could be better communicated as well or even changed depending on how we end up balancing the game better. We'll also discuss how to comm' that better.

Also, your feedback was not harsh! In fact, I appreciate you going into detail. Again, it gives us an idea of what to touch and what not to. Either way, thanks for giving the game a try and for the comments!
