I got sucked into this one and played a bunch of runs.  I still haven't beaten wave 10, but not for lack of trying!

It definitely took me a while to get used to the ship's inertia, as well as the fact that I didn't actually want to be dodging bullets much of the time.  I hit a bit of a wall in my first few runs, but once I started using dash as my primary attack, things really opened up.  I feel like the timers for spinning and dashing are perfectly calibrated for the waves of enemies, and you can kind of settle into a rhythm with them.

Super-fun, addictive game, and a really cool twist on the standard bullet-hell formula.  I had a blast with it.  Awesome job!

i loved the mechanic of spinning to collect bullets and sending it back at enemies

took me a while for my lack of bullethell skill to go away but this is a great lil game. dash meta OP.  i also particularly enjoyed needing to spin to enter the game hahah, good way to have the tutorial embedded in the gameplay!

This is a great twist on your average bullet hell, really interesting!
A small tweak that would improve player feedback a bit would be if the dash invulnerability didn't look like a hit invulnerability blink? I wasn't always sure if I had been hit or it was just dash invulnerability. Otherwise great stuff!

Really fun game! I love the spinning mechanic and the fact that I have to get the bullet back from the enemies are so interesting. Though I do find the movement a bit challenging especially when I am spinning. I'm assuming its direction based maybe making it not direction based when spinning would make it better(?) The visuals are cleann and the audio is pretty fitting! Overall, its a really good game! Great work!

This is so much fun!! I love the decision making in having to spin and be disoriented but get bullets or use the dash for a more  reliable but harder to get kills and it makes the moment to moment gameplay very intense, I think the difficulty and balancing is also good for a jam game, minor issue, in the final wave all the bullets froze and spinning turned them blue but they didnt become my bullets so I had to win by only dashing but that ended up being its own kind of fun, getting to the main menu after that spinning on the Play button didn't work so that might help narrow the issue down.  Really cool game!!

Thanks for playing, glad to read you liked it!

on the bug : I think the bullet fading out at the end of their lifetime is what's causing this bug. If they're collected while fading, things start getting out of whack. I guess pushing that small visual flair on the last day broke more than it fixed :')
Thanks for your feedback! :D

Really cool game! I like that you have to steal bullets to shoot. I really like the overall feel to it and the gameplay is fun as well! Awesome job!

A fun little arcade shooter! We've already discussed what would've been my main complaint in Discord, so all I really have to say is that I like the music and SFX and think the game could use a bit more VFX (engine trails definitely). Overall solid game!

Interesting take on the classic shooter!  Reloading by grabbing the enemy's bullets was a good take!

Fun spin (eheh) on this kind of game. Gobbling up enemy bullets and shooting back was very satisfying. I completely forgot the dash existed first attempt, and it made the second run a lot easier once I had gotten used to playing without it lol.

Art did the job, but the flat spaceships didn't really feel cohesive with the background, some cool designs on the ships would've been welcome - the few that had something extra looked better, but the player ship especially could have used some fanciness. Not a huge deal really.

I did run into a bit of a nasty bug where some ships and bullets both just stopped moving and stayed stuck in place. The bullets acted like they were still "active" and could do damage, and I could even absorb them, but they would just turn blue and stay on the level, they wouldn't orbit me and I couldn't shoot them (although it would still play the shooting SFX as if I was). Obviously hard to tell from a static screenshot but everything here (enemies and bullets) is just still. Can see from the yellow ones on the left just stacking up like that and that blue one in the bottom left hasn't been fired by me.

Overall it's a solid entry and pretty fun, definitely a very good first game.

I can’t steer for the life of me lol. Is really fun though. Needing to manage the spin meter was great, prevented you from just avoiding all the damage. The dash attack/move was also a nice addition, helped a lot in later waves with the i-frames.

Love the gameplay!

At first I thought, okay, I catch bullets like Neo in the Matrix, how hard could this be? Turns out: pretty hard. But that's more a skill based issue than I can blame the game design here, you've got a full moveset and the waves increase in challenge at a steady rate. You're generous with health without trivializing the game either. I thought the crucial  forward dot was maybe a little difficult to see at times, and some polish with particle effects and trail renderers would have really taken this up another level. That being said, I did achieve flow state here, and enjoyed playing it.

Damn I'm not very good at this haha. Really cool concept, I like games that make you work for your ammo, and the spin is a cool use of that! The dodging mixed with the tank controls took a lot of getting used to, and I ended up standing still a lot of the time, but it kind of made sense after a bit. Still not super good at the movement but it does work :) The background changes with fake lights or similar in the grid cells is very nice too :) It would be nice if you could get a shield of some kind too, maybe one that reflects bullets, that could be cool.

A pretty good game! I agree with others, dashing with the orientation of the mouse would make it more manageable. Only got a time of 5:15, but I encountered a really weird game breaking bug. Basically the enemies would spawn but not move (half the time). A lot of bullets would just stay on screen, I could not spin them up, they would turn blue but thats it. The stuck bullet could still hurt me, unless i turned them blue. Some enemies would still move and shoot. And then i would have a stuck bullet in my "inventory" that made the shooting sound and moved but did not shoot.
Anyway, really good game, i played for like 30 min!

Hey thanks and congrats on beating wave 10!

We've been taking note of these specific control feedbacks, so thanks for your input. Someone previously mentioned controlling where the player is facing with the mouse and a dash towards the mouse would then go very well together as well! Things to consider for after the jam :)

That is really odd about that bug, first we've heard about it, so thanks for letting us know. (woffel just told me he'd just seen the bug ystd as well) Do you mind if I dm you on discord to find out more about this bug?

Submitted

Yep, just dm me, i also have a video of it :)

Very fun idea but im usually pretty bad at this kinda thing lol… creative use of the theme though, with you having to get the enemies bullets to shoot back at them! kinda wish when you stopped spinning it was a bit easier to see where you’d land, or if when you’re not spinning it would follow your cursor instead of having to use tank controls to manuever your ship… nonetheless very fun game!

Developer

OOoh i like the idea of the orientation following the mouse. A suggestion i haven't thought of, or heard suggested so far. That would be a nice addition that could feel intuitive to play! Thanks for playing and your feedback! :)

GOD! I'm so bad at it, yet it was so much fun! Great use of the theme, spinning to collect enemies bullets is a really cool idea of stop action and reload. It was really hard for me (I'm bad at timing stuff), but it really was fun! Great job!

this game is very cool. i wanna definitely come back to it later to try to master it. a very unique idea of picking the bullets up

Developer

thank you and I ALSO BELIEVE IN YOU!

The programming really stands out in this game; it's a brilliant concept, a great game!

I really tried - but sadly I couldn't get beyond Wave 5 ┏༼ ◉ ╭╮ ◉༽┓ Nevertheless, the gameplay is really moreish, although the controls are a tad difficult to come to terms with - this might be simply a failing on my behalf though, to me W always means go "up", so having to press W to go forward when actually facing down was often too much for my simple brain, and I ended up careening into enemies more times than I'd like to admit ^^;;
