I initially bounced off this game when I tried it several days ago despite loving the style, because I got stuck early on. Now, though, I'm really glad that I circled back to it. The game is off-the-charts in terms of style and charm; the art style, the sound design...everything just kind of fits. Really well done. I love the effect of the rain hitting the top of the water. The sound design is very minimal, but that makes the moments when it swells up all the more impactful. Great atmosphere-building.
The gameplay is quite nice once you figure it out. The platforming didn't feel great to me, and I occasionally ended up in the spikes when I thought I had done everything correctly, but the puzzle/exploration aspect is quite nice; once you know what to look for, there are just enough hints scattered around to guide you in the right direction. I do wish the mole's spots were a touch more distinct visually from the walls around them, but maybe that's just me not being attentive enough.
Also, I had the same concern that seems to be showing up elsewhere in the comments: even though I understand why things are the way they are, I really wanted a version where I could just pick the animal instead of spinning the wheel. This is balanced a little bit because early on you have multiple ways to progress things, so just about any animal is useful; but later on when you really want someone specific, it can be frustrating if you time the wheel incorrectly.
The character abilities felt well-balanced, and things were organized in clever ways such that you needed multiple of those abilities, in the right order, to solve the puzzles. Maybe the duck, shouldn't die immediately when touching water, since ducks can swim? But there's a dedicated quack button, which more makes up for that.
The short length also works in this game's favor. The length feels just right: long enough to get used to how things work and feel that sense of accomplishment, but not long enough for things to get tedious/repetitive.
Again, I'm glad I came back to this one because I really enjoyed it in the end. Great work!
