So cute! It’s a simple premise to shoot hearts at the enemies, and it works! Inspiring concept. I also love what you did to the sound fx, did you deliberately lower the bitrate on those?
Yes the sfx are recorded sounds resampled with sox command line utility! Thanks a lot for the feedback ^^ In these dark times I wanted to try 'cute mecha' ^^
Darn right to make something lighthearted 🌈🥰
This was delightful. I'll admit I wasn't sold by the art in the thumbnail, but the moment I saw it in motion I cracked such a big smile. Really fun implementation of a little mech platformer! I liked that there's limitations on movement to give the player a mechy feel.
One tiny thing I'd suggest is visual feedback that happens right when the projectile fires, like a muzzle flash. It looks like it takes a while to come out from behind the player, making it seem delayed.
But I liked the clear sound feedback when you block, since projectiles move slow. Jump jets felt good too! You gave just the right amount of fuel to not feel stingy, nor OP. I really had fun.
Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback :) Yes postjam I need to add more feedback on shooting and blocking!
that was IMO the cutest entry in the whole jam! Having unfamiliar control scheme added to that home-made vibe which is even better I think. The same goes for player movement, how you have to predict where it will land when the energy will run out. I didn't get very far but I can tell that it interesting and fun)
very fun and really cute, love the visuals, controls are a little wierd but easy to learn but besidwes that they are nice
Good work! I liked how you managed to convey the weight of the mech
I have a soft spot for these kinds of visuals and audio. Reminds me of old indie Flash games.
But I also think the gameplay is fun, if a bit simple.
I noticed that the visuals did not line up with the hitboxes on the mechs and bullets at times, but nothing that detracted much from my gameplay experience.
I think this game is awesome.
The art gives a fun vibe that you usually don't find in a mech game. The sound was great and added weight to the character. Great job.
Cute game! The controls are a little clunky but maybe that's intentional. I would have liked to respawn on the level I died on rather than play the tutorial level again. Love the color scheme and the sprites have a lot of charm with the hand-drawn style.
The artsyle for this one is quite cute, and I thought the sound effects were fitting for the style. In fact upon checking your other games I recall I commented that your Kaiju Jam entry one time could do with sound effects, and frankly I think them being added here helps quite a bit even wtih basic sounds.
As for the rest of my feedback I should preface I've never been hugely into platformers, so my feedback may be a little out of touch.
The movement definitely conveys being in a mech, but much like a heavy mech trying to platform it felt a little too clunky, stiff and slow to feel good for me.
And I think having death set the player back to the first level and with no way to regain health to be a little too punishing imo.
This was a cute little paltforming, but one I don't think was for me, good job though!
The artstyle is really cute.
I was a bit confused with the control scheme at first, since the keys are not what I used to, but the tutorial stage really helped.
Great platformer, controls are not really intuitive but when you understand them it’s OK! The fact that the tutorial is in the game is a good idea!
Great job for a team of 2, keep going!!! W
Wow that was very well made! I think this is the most well balanced game I’ve played so far in the jam.
You managed to make the difficulty level feel just right to force me to engage with all the mechanics which made it very fun to play. I think the character controller came out perfect giving the feeling of lugging around a giant heavy mech in 2D. Just enough control to navigate the maps but not enough to lose that mech feeling.
If I had to criticize anything it would be the lack of shooting animation on the mech. If there was a shoot animation it would make the slow shooting speed feel more responsive.
Oh and did you record the shooting sound effect from a robot toy? Because it kind of reminded me of the cheap little speakers in kids toys lol. It definitely paired well with the art style.
Great job on this! it’s a 5/5 from me
I am very touched, you perfectly felt what I was trying to convey :^)
Indeed, I ran out of time, the next things on my list were more physics feedback when you are shot or parry with your shield!
Fun little platformer.
I like the shield mechanics to clock enemy shots and the game has a very endeering artstyle that sorta reminds me of old flash games like the ones i played on Newgrounds back in the day, for some reason your smiling little mechs made me think of a mix between Kirby and Fantasy zone :p
I just feel the jumping fells a bit too stiff to use, thankfully you made a jetpack when holding the key but i ended up relying quite a lot on it to compensate for how odd the regular jump is.
Other than that it was a nice little game, you both did good :)
Overall, the combat felt balanced but I wish there was more maneuverability of the player including when youre in the air and run out of fuel. The main difficulty overall came from starting from the beginning when you died at the last level. The enemies are challenging but beatable and the shield helped alot for the combat.
I recognized you from the last Kaiju Jam ! really cute aesthetic, you got a good feeling with this one on the physics + the sounds, there's some sincere thing about it. the flash game core about it's the best
armored core X Kirby
Thanks for the kind words ^^
This is nice, the style is very cute and efficient, gives retro Flash game vibes. And even though it's going for cute, the sound and animation do give the mech weight and even character. Love that you've even managed to put multiple levels together. Well done!
Thanks a lot for the kind feedback ^^ I would have liked to put a bit more physics on taking damage and parrying using the shield, but it will be for post jam :)
