Cool game, I like the vision. Controls - the leaning and the boost - feel really nice. The spinning propeller animation looks dope, I hope you manage to get it working :)

This is a very rough prototype, sorry. Keep working on it and it could become a good game.

Developer(+1)

I will! Thank you☺️

It's still very much a prototype, but I gotta say I liked the speed feel and the physics when launching off a ramp. Also, I really liked the aesthetic. It's not quite Frutiger Aero, but it gave me vibes.

As for feedback, it's quite tricky. I don't think the game does anything particularly wrong, but it lacks a lot of things, which I can understand it was because of the lack of time.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, what you said is already valuable feedback! -yes it was because of lack of time ;-;- I spent quite a bit of time adjusting the physics, and I know they're still not perfect, but knowing what's feeling nice for the players and what might need to be changed is very important.

Interesting that it gave you some remembrance of Frutiger Aero vibes! I can figure a couple reasons why, though it was certainly not intended consciously. I guess my memories emerged and formed into this! I'm really glad you liked this aesthetic ^^

Really reminded me of the Mario Winter Olympics game on the wii. I can definitely see this being super fun with friends! Was a little janky for sure, especially being able to cheat the game here and there, but the movement felt super smooth and cool use of the theme!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you :)) It was really useful to see it played live. I'll check your game too as soon as I can. Feel free to follow for updates, and, hopefully it'll progress enough that you can play it with friends someday : D

My inspo was more old-Rayman-based, but Mario & Sonic winter games was cool too!

So I usually try to find  criticism in all of the games I review but with how much in your submission is a work in progress I feel like I'd be committing blasphemy doing that, I will say for the sake of a jam I think ultimately you got a little too ambitious.

It's a cool idea, and I can see the foundation pretty clearly of what you've set; I've gotta say it's not a bad one either.

Thank you for your mercy πŸ’€πŸ˜…

Yeah, I know, especially having changed recently to Godot. I doubted myself from day 1,  but I really wanted to at least try to participate in this jam (been looking forward to it). I tried to filter the idea down to the core of the game for at least a playable prototype (movement, spinning wheel, and its effects on the player). I'm happy I at least got that part, mostly :P

Thanks for playing and appreciating all that was appreciable! :)

Nice game for a jam! I liked the visuals a lot and the gameplay has a lot of potential if you decide to expand it further after the jam. Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Wow thank u so much! Considering the polished-ness of your game this is a true honor 🀣

I will continue it, I intend to make it at least a local two-player game. If you want to receive any updates, feel free to follow :)

I like the concept! The wheel is a bit too small though, I couldnt really see whats on there

Developer (2 edits)

Oh I'm so sorry about the wheel size, especially that it doesn't addapt its size to fullscreen when it should have (most likely my own mistake somewhere). I hope at least the placeholder icons in top of the character make it any better?  (they're there for most effects). Thank you for playing & your comment, I'm glad you liked the concept ;)

I gave it another go after your fixes. I was able to use the turbo boost and spin the wheel this time! I do think this has potential and I like the idea, but it seems you didn't have enough time to implement the features fully :(
I'd like to see a timer or some mechanic for replayability. I didn't notice the wheel having too much of an impact. I did enjoy dodging the trees and testing my reaction time.  I think you should continue working on it and add some more polish. Not bad for a 7 day jam :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I will keep working on it outside the jam :) I came up with the idea late so I basically did it in about 4 days only 😢

There are definitely problems with jumping and turning – the animation works sometimes, but other times it doesn't. I'd probably make a few levels, but smaller, with less vegetation, and let buffs carry over from the wheel. That would make it feel more meaningful.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! I'm still figuring out why this happens (using Godot 4). Do you happen to have any idea? I agree with you on the level-making. I used a very simple random tree placement for the jam as a prototype level, but I'd like to make more and better levels. The buff part is all still very prototype-stage too, so maybe with actual visual effects for each buff and maybe a separate UI indicator it will be better, think that would work?

Submitted(+1)

Unfortunately, I haven't worked with Godot, so I don't know how to solve this problem. As for visual effects for buffs – that's a great idea.

the ramps do nothing and the wheel does nothing.

Developer (1 edit)

Hi! The ramps only work if you have enough impulse (you're supposed to use the turbo before and through the ramp), or they can serve as a stopping point so you can spin the wheel without the danger of crashing on a tree. The wheel is supposed to spin when you press Alt or the Right Trigger in controllers (I'm still updating the page so maybe that info wasn't available when you tried it). I'm still fixing bugs, but that should work now. If you happen to try it again and it still doesn't work for you, I'd appreciate the bug report. Thanks :)

Looks cool, though the wheel doesnt seem to do anything & the level ends after a minute

Developer

You caught me on the very early bug-fixing stage, but you can try again now if you want to. All necessary info in the now-complete page :)

It looks like there are some major bugs with your upload- I would love to try it when these are resolved! Perhaps you are aware, but I cannot get enough momentum to jump a ramp, and I cannot figure out how to spin the wheel at the top. It looks like it would be fun! Reply to this comment when you get a working version so I can rate :)

Developer

Hi! I fixed a bunch of stuff and completed the page. If you want to try it again, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you :)
