I really liked this one! The reticle did a great job of communicating the status of the weapons and worked really well without cluttering the screen. The art style is absolutely smashing, and you managed to increase the difficulty with each wave in a balanced and satisfying way. Great work!
Thank you!
This is amazing, super well polished.
Love the 3d pixel-art effect. The shells bouncing across the ground is a nice touch. The shadow of your health bar made me laugh.
The controls felt good, the reticule snapping to targets works well, and having all your HUD info on it is a cool effect.
Love it!
Thank you!
Very fun game, well done! Nice to see you back in another MechJam.
Thank you, glad to join!
Nice game! Unfortunately, the music was a little glitchy for me, but the 3D design is very cool, and the graphics are great. I would recommend a little more variety in terms of scenery and enemies, but a great game nevertheless! Nice work.
Thank you!
This one feels satisfying!
Polished little arcade shooter experience. Does what it aims to do pretty well.
Thank you!
Nice rounded package! Very good visual choices with the low pixel and the palette ! Blends everything together very well. Alternating the 2 weapons works well ! I think dash could be a bit longer (it is not super useful as is?)
Thanks for playing, glad you liked it! Will experiment a bit more with the dash
Damn, hard mode's got hands; I've only made it to wave 7 so far.
Rust & Dust feels like the sort of twin-stick shooter that I would have played on a flash game website after school. This is very high praise.
I really like the the way that the crosshair locks onto the enemies. It's a very "mech" way of aiming, coming to the same conclusion as Armored Core's sight lock via a different path. I find it impressive that despite disconnecting the mech's aiming from my mouse's position, it never felt like I was lacking control over my choice of target - that must have taken a lot of tweaking to get feeling so good!
I also enjoy the interplay between the chunky dual machine guns and the powerful missile launcher. I felt that I had to be quite conservative with ammo on normal, but with the addition of so many flying units that drop missile pickups in hard, the balance was much closer to ideal.
I do question two game design decisions:
Other than that, I have few complaints. Maybe some slightly better feedback to taking small arms fire? You've already got a brilliant impact effect when being shot by the large tanks, so something a little less dramatic would be great to indicate when I'm being chipped away.
Overall, this is excellent for a solo game jam entry! I hope you do well in the results!
I myself lose on hard mode sometimes 😬
The overheating mechanic is meant to add a bit of resource management related decisions, but to be honest, I think it's worth testing a version without it.
Noted on the pickups drop delay, thanks for pointing that out, as well as the feedback for taking smaller bits of damage.
Thank you!
This a great entry! The soundtrack was absolutely my cup of tea and the crunchy isometric 3d style was fun! In enemy design the visuals were cool but they were kind of samey. Except for the flying enemy at the end, they all kind of run up to you and shoot in place. I also noticed the target didn't really follow what I was aiming at and the end screen froze for me.
Good stuff, I had fun!
Thanks for playing! Thanks for pointing the bugs too, will look into it
Very nice jam game, quite polished for a solo project. The crunchy pixel style works well, your UI communicates nicely, there's some solid juice and gamefeel. I do think you could do a little more w/ the hero mech, it looks a little stiff, maybe leaning or some squash/stretch to amplify the feeling of movement/momentum. The enemies look nice but could use some more variety, specifically in their attacks/movement. They pretty much just show up then stop to shoot at you, it would have been nice to have something more mobile or maybe flying units to mix things up. The target indicator seems to get 'stuck' on enemies, even if i move and target another it stays on them too long (even while my bullets go at the one i have moused over), not sure if that's a bug or intended behavior.
Overall great work, easy to hop into and satisfying to play, nice job!
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! The squash/stretch anims are something I did not think of, will try it for sure!
Cool sound selection, the hunky mechanicalism was well-captured (I did end up turning the music down a bit to hear more of them, and there were some details that actually only became apparent afterward) - although it's true there was a bit of lag when the two weapon SFX first fired, but that worked itself out right afterward. Nice job on the models for the player mech and the enemies - I'm also a fan of the 3D-but-through-pixels artstyle (whatever people normally call that...). Controls felt well-tuned; I only played on Normal difficulty but I felt that was fair - and no bugs on my playthroughs. Nice work, and congratulations!
Thanks for playing and for the feeback!
Fun little game! Plays like a classic arcade game.
Thanks for playing!
very fun gameplay, I like your mecha designs too! I did have to reload the page a couple times due to a bug - the controls seemed to get 'stuck' sometimes (might be an issue with the web player though).
Thank you! Having the game run on web is always a challenge for me, thanks for giving it a chance!
quiet enjoyable, for some reason the sound's quiet lagy but it's cool to play
Thanks for playing!
Rock solid entry, had a blast trying this one out !
I really like the low res aesthetic on display this made it feel like a game from the early days of 3d but with far better framerate XD The mech designs in general are also pretty awesome especially the main player mech, i’d love to see a higher res version to get a better look at the design.
Gameplay wise the aiming and shooting feel fine, the dash ability is great to dodge incoming fire, i also really like the fact that most of the useful info like the machine gun overheat and missile ammo are indicated directly on the crosshair it keeps everything clean and readable.
The music is an absolute banger as well, this fits the action so well :O
Didn’t have any real issue with this one, it only needs more levels more enemies more everything :p
Congrats and great work :)
Thank you so much! I've got a bunch of ideas for this one, can I ping you for testing new versions?
No problem the game is nice :) cool that you’ve got more ideas to keep adding to it ! Sure i don’t mind it can be cool to try out when you update, but i’m not on discord so appart from comments on itch i’m not quite sure how you can ping me :/
