Big fan of typing games and this executed very well. Beat on easy and lost on the later extreme rounds so kudos on the balancing.
I was curious about the content of the text passages but the end dialogue brought it all together effectively. Seriously (pun intended) impressive work to make a game this polished that also delivers delivers an important message.
My one suggestion is to have the "lose" ending somehow communicate the same idea or hint that you won't get the full picture until beating it. If I had only played once and lost I wouldn't have gotten the full impact of the game!
Thank you for your feedback and suggestion ♥ I'm glad you liked it :D Having a losing ending is a good idea, I was thinking everybody would try to win it once, but you are right some players might give up, might as well give them something.
It may not have been the best application of the theme, but I really liked it; it's well implemented and conveys a serious message 🙏
Thank you for your feedback ♥ I'm glad you liked it :D
Probably the best (or one of) end-to-end technical execution for a game out of the ones I have played so far during the jam. Didn't feel as if anything was half-made. Bonus points for "impact frames" :p
Theme implementation itself probably wasn't quite as creative, but the serious part makes up for it in abundance.
Good job!
Thank you so much for your kind feedback ♥ I'm glad you enjoyed the game and aesthetic :D I admit playing on that Indoor Cycling is called Spinning wasn't a very creative theme implementation considering other amazing entries in the jam :D
Really awesome retro feel, and some pretty interesting surprises along the way. Good job!
Thank you for your kind feedback ♥ I'm glad you enjoyed it :D
I had a great time with this one, honestly. The wikipedia articles were very informative too! The typing mechanics were very clean and never felt unfair or broken, very polished.
My only criticisms are that the opponent tended to breeze by the more difficult characters to type like (, ), [, and ]. Also the opponent never had pauses or mistakes which felt unbalanced at times.
Great job though!
Thank you for your kind feedback and suggestions ♥ I'm pleased you enjoyed it :D I got several requests for opponent to slip up, but this is the first time someone mentions the particularly hard characters, that is super cool to consider, I definitely want to try to make if the opponent is more likely to slip they would slip at those ones because of how difficult they, thank you for this advice and will keep in mind when developing it further ♥
I'd never played this kind of game before, but it was really great to take this opportunity to play it. It's very well polished and has a very consistent retro vibe—congratulations.
Thank you for your kind feedback ♥ I hope you enjoyed it :D
This is such a clever idea, would love to see this turn into a full fledged game! Maybe you can add a scoreboard so people will race each other for the fastest typer. Great job, it was fun!
Thank you for your kind feedback and the suggestion ♥ I'm pleased you enjoyed it and will keep that idea in my notes for when I develop it further :D
Definitely not a game for me, a (less importantly)non-native english speaker and (more importantly) someone who still can't get used to their new keyboard and constantly presses in-between buttons haha. But I like the actually serious message and the whole uncomfortable vibe of the game. And the effect that happens when you mistype very clearly communicates that you made a mistake, good job.
Thank you for your kind feedback ♥ I'm glad you enjoyed some aspects of it even if you don't like typing games :) congratulations on the new keyboard, hope it is a nice one once you get used to it :D
Really really well done game, and bizarrely polished for a jam game as well. It has an impeccable vibe that is somewhere between arcade-y, typing games, and old-school educational games.
I will say, as much as I like both the gameplay and the game's ultimate message, there is maybe is some slight tonal dissonance there. I can't decide if it was intentional or not, but if it was I don't know that I quite got it. Maybe the English major in me is being needlessly analytical though.
Super happy I played this one, either way. Amazing work. In terms of personal preference, this is a stand out in what I've played so far.
Thank you very much for your kind feedback ♥, I'm very pleased you liked the aesthetic and vibe of the game and that you enjoyed it :D
I appreciate your note regarding how you felt tonal dissonance, if it would be possible you explain to me more what made you feel this way, or if there is something in particular that you would have improved, I have to admit the full outline of the game narrative script had to be morphed to the decreasing scope of the game due to the time limit, so I also understand if it feels like there was huge jumps from happy to grim that might have been better if they were given enough time. Thank you for your support. ♥
Even more than the huge jump to the grim ending, I think it was the articles that sort of stood out to me. Especially before knowing the game's ending, reading about these very grim historical topics and events while watching cute pixel art guys ride stationary bikes to upbeat music was mildly off-putting, at least for me.
I will say, I don't think tonal dissonance is necessarily always a bad thing! In some ways it might work for you thematically to have those tonal shifts. Maybe, for example, creating that discomfort I felt while playing works in the game's favor once you're hit with that last link? Just some thoughts.
Your point about the time limit makes a lot of sense too. I can appreciate that for a jam, the scope of the story needed to stay small while still being able to tackle this larger topic.
Anyway, hopefully that helps! If you plan on working on this more after the jam, I'll totally check it out. Like I said, this one really works for me.
Thank you for clarifying ♥, yes the in game discomfort is part of the experience, replicating a bit athletes and spectators of countries affected by the world state and how they can enjoy world sport events but also feel the unease of it all at the same time, I was thinking what better ways this kind of text can be presented other than the athlete needing a "clear mind" :D, but also I feel like after watching some live play testing, the shock of getting the first typing text and the "fun 90's retro sport game time" is getting into complicated territories now is a plus I didn't expect, but it needs balance or people may feel like I'm taking these topics lightly which I'm not, and that is why when you brought up the unease you felt, I was very interested to know more, thank you for that :)
Sounds like you have a really good handle on what you were trying to do and how it works and how it doesn't, which I just want to say I really respect. This really is an awesome entry, and I wish you the best in whatever you get up to after this, whether you continue to work on this or not!
