Nobody's said this yet but it must be said: the mech looks really good. It grabs your eye when looking at the submission thumbnails, and continues to look good upon further inspection. The wings, the weapon, shield, helmet, breastplate and posture, there are so many good things happening on there.
And the trees done with that same ornamented style you use along the game page borders is a crazy idea, which actually looks good. No other trees look like that, it's a bold choice, but I think it looks really interesting and puts you in place in the game.
This is a completely different artistic direction, but look at the ground textures... In the game setting, they look like interesting ground with variably compacted dirt and bedrock. But it also kind of looks like distant parallax forest:
The same can be said for each of the ground textures, they all kind of take you to a place. Just something I noticed. Anyway, I like your pixel art. The mech is fantastic and the trees are so interesting!
mechs in ancient Greece are a very original idea, enjoyed it threw and threw
I really liked the concept and the theme. Nice to think of mechs in the Greek period! The gameplay is nice for a good 15 min. Then it gets repetitive. Didn’t find all the golds, but the in-air fighting is fun. I love the mecha design. They look neat! Well-made game! The world could have been made a bit smaller to avoid long moments of just navigating without much to do. That could increase fight frequency and discovery interest, but reduce the game’s lifespan.
wooo this's so peak...
I made the same discovery as another commenter below (I thought I was even more clever than it turns out that I am), blocking midair does allow your stamina to recover and also freezes any vertical momentum. Honestly, it was kind of fun to do that lol. I did end up skipping the enemies after a certain point, since a lot of them seemed to do a lot of damage due to their fire rate and there didn't seem to be a reason to kill them. However, outside of the mech, my pacifism was gone, and I very much enjoyed that you can attack out of block and resume block immediately by holding shift and left-clicking. It's a little thing, but it's smooth. The scale of the game was bigger than I expected - there are at least three zones (four, counting the grass + temples). I know it's a jam, but I'll still say that if each zone had unique enemies, that'd be pretty cool. Bonus points for unique OST per zone... Your dark area and purple area seem like opportunities there imo!
Pretty cool sidescroller adventure !
I gotta say starting on foot really makes for a strong “Wow” factor once you enter the mech and the camera zooms out.
and i really like the whole ancient greece but sci-fi theme going on here and the spritework that goes along with it ^^
I also enjoyed the fact that the on foot gameplay isn’t just a one off thing for the intro, you cleverly teached the player that if you reach a temple you should go out of the mech to see if there’s a “Medal / Coin” to collect and it’s a super satisfying way to convey the mechanic.
I also really enjoyed the surprise encounter near the end but i don’t want to spoil it here for those who haven’t tried your game yet :p
The only real issue i’ve had is the section with the “Bounce Cloud things ?” felt a bit awkward to use :/
Other than that it was a really cool experience, well done :)
The style and concept are interesting, but the gameplay gets repetitive after a while.
The change of scale works well ^^ and the exploration is surprisingly interesting when onboard the mecha.
I would allow the mech to fire in every direction, since the other mechs kinda circle around you, that would be more fun? also, having a melee attack with the mech would be great.
Awesome that you included in-mech and out-of-mech combat. I will say fighting the enemies felt a little pointless and repetitive, I kinda just speedran the whole thing after the first few enemies. I also found you can cheese movement by blocking in the air, your stamina regenerates, and you can keep jumping/flying by doing it over and over. If you get out of the mech it flies off really far and at one point I thought it was a bug and my mech despawned, so I think it could use an indicator to point to where your mech is. I'm sure you could accidentally send it to a location thats inaccessible so it might need some kind of recall function.
Anyway the greek mech vibe was really cool, love the spartan warrior / tallgeese vibes on the main guy. Nice work!
Really enjoyed the visuals, fun gameplay. I like being able to fly around and shoot mechs! Sick main character design. I found the audio to be a bit repetitive . Nice work!!!
