Pretty neat little game! The level was a bit basic, but the animations had a good sense of feedback, and the enemy variety was pretty nice as well. I quite enjoyed the soundtrack, especially the music change when obtaining the jetpack.

The controls worked well, although the gun felt a bit wimpy due to the slow-moving bullets and lack of feedback when firing. On the other hand, the fact it could shoot through walls made the game a bit easy, which I'm not sure was intended.

The story was pretty interesting and I liked the wife(?) being the final boss. That said, I think I cheesed her by getting stuck outside the invisible wall that was supposed to lock the boss arena, and shooting her while she couldn't reach me. Still, it was a neat fight and she looked cool and had cool animations. Good job!

Thanks for playing🫡

Shooting targets to replenish your jetpack double-jump was honestly a really cool idea! I was really bad at aiming the gun but I really appreciate the game being forgiving of that. xD The main character's animations are really juicy, and I love the subtle-yet-satisfying movement sound effects! Congrats to everybody on the team ^^

thanks a lot :)

I like the enemy variety, but I felt like most were not aggressive/dangerous enough and I was able to cheese them by standing back and shooting them

Developer

Hi, thanks for playing the game. Another mistake I made was the enemies' range; you could just stand behind them and shoot, and they wouldn't do anything, i Will try to fix it and not repeat that mistake on future games. I hope you enjoyed the game 🫡

music + art style is really enjoyable.

Probably would enjoy gameplay if death meant anything, you could usually brute force any fight, so dogging became irrelevant (why don't enemies respawn/  boss fight rester at death )

Hi thanks for playing, Definitely one of the mistakes I made in this game was the excessive number of checkpoints, and dying was completely pointless, something I will improve in the future. This was my second jam and I still have a lot learn.Thank you for playing and giving feedback, it means a lot to me 😊.

Animation style is awesome, you know your squash and stretch! I was also a fan of the music, the first one feeling pretty tense as you enter the unknown and the second one very triumphant as you get a new ability and are able to reach many new places. I would recommend leaning into the polish a bit more. Some enemy attacks are unclear or really hard to dodge, especially plant bulbs when sent by plants offscreen. I think some of the pixel sizes were different which can make an uncanny feeling. The gun didn't always shoot at the right angle and I think with the backpack sometimes you can jump more times than it makes sense. But other than that I love the ideas in here they're very creative!

Hey, thanks for playing the game and pointing out the weak points that I will improve. I hope you enjoyed it :)

I'm sorry, I feel like I didn't say or show that I think this game is really charming especially with the story ideas and atmosphere. I did enjoy it!

Developer

thx for playing and your review about the music, it was a challenge composing for this game :))

Short and sweet game. Made a video playthrough, and gave some feedback at the end!

Hi, thanks for playing and making a video,(I'm going to subscribe to your channel) that way I could see someone else playing and I could see the game's flaws. I shouldn't have put so many checkpoints and the art was done by an artist, Shake_non, wanst an asset pack. And yes, the name under Root in the logo is wrong lmao . Thanks for playing the game 🫡(bthw this was my second jam)

i loved your gameplay!

and yes, the artwork was made by hand, from the amazing @shake_non hands btw

The game was very good. The art and music are wonderful. And the boss fight is very creative. :)

The audio and art is great. That boss is crazy tanky but overall the game was a lot of fun.

Combat could use some work. The time it take to kill some enemy is quite long and shooting the gun does not feel that satisfying. The art work is quite nice and the player character control seem smooth.  Love the ending lol.

I really like the flower enemy that shoots multiple projectiles! It forces me to play a bit more carefully and it's not too easy or too hard. The game itself was pretty fun too. For a metroidvania, I think there could definitely be some branching paths. For example, after getting the dash, the path forward was still linear, so you could probably tease another pathway that requires the dash to progress beforehand. The boss at the end was really cool, I liked the animations! I think it could use some more clarity on the attacks though, and less enemies that spawn since they tend to be more distracting rather than adding to the fight (I ended up just ignoring them and focused on the boss). I also think some more platforms to maneuver during the boss fight would improve the fight a lot since it would give more options for dodging.

Otherwise, you have a nice variety of enemies and gameplay was engaging! Congrats to you all!
