What a game! You NAILED the eerie vibe with the visuals, awesome sound effects, and controls. I noticed myself looking over my shoulder from time to time to avoid the sand worm, lol. The gameplay loop works really well, and you managed to cram in a lot of relevant content in here!

I feel like the game could benefit from having the controls explained a bit more, whether that's just a description on the itch page or a pop-up at the start. But then again, figuring out how to pick up rocks with the arm while a giant sand worm roared in the distance was really amusing. Great work!

A lot to enjoy here! Quite a complete package this is - the visuals, audio, the feel of the mech. Loved the oppressive atmosphere - makes you feel very vulnerable. Perhaps the map is a little bland, but it's enough to get the point across.

Either way, I'd enjoy seeing this expanded. Perhaps it would be cool if there was some bigger goal other than collecting rocks, something that would motivate me to play more than just a few runs.

Great job!

Thanks for the review! There was a plan to make it more interesting, but not enough time. I wanted to introduce mission/bet system, where you would pay to take up a task - and only get the prize if completed in specified time. Unfortunately I had to scrap that during the jam. Maybe a bit of storyline as well.

Great game! Quite a learning curve though. The ambiance and overall feeling when playing is very cool! I stupidly died, smashed by the extraction ship. A lot of fun! It’s a bit hard to see far away though. At first I was quite confused, but the atmosphere and gameplay kept me engaged. Well done on this submission! Side note: The VA is very nice; I like it.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm actually glad someone unlocked this way of dying xD. It's relieving that you liked the VA, i thought it did not really work out well.

Are the difficulties real or are they just there for show? I picked hard and managed to unlock all the upgrades by my 3rd mission and since therre was nothing to do, I decided to fall off a cliff and die. But when I got back to the menu I still had all my upgrades so permadeath didnt seem to work. Also I think the worm glitched out because I only ever saw it on my first mission.

I did have a lot of fun though. I love immersive games like this and the effort you went through to make it feel like you’re actually piloting a mech really paid off!

My only critique in terms of gameplay is the poor visibility. In open areas like around the dark forest it’s basically impossible to see anything, and the flashlight doesn’t help at all. I think you should at least be able to unlock a better light or something that improves visibility. Low vis is definitely a viable mechanic to add tension and difficulty, but if the player feels like they’re moving blindly with no way to orient themselves, it feels more like a detriment to the gameplay.

Overall experience was very positive, and the voice acting was a nice touch. Well done!

Developer

Sorry, I actually didn't implement the difficulties and forgot to delete them. Lack of time. I know, the fog was a problem in lower parts of the map, I didn't manage to really balance it out. Main navigation in that area was supposed to be a map and scanner, but I suppose it wasn' t really working as intended. As for worm... It's not a glitch, I knew I could not balance it properly, so the worm is basically a scripted event for the first descent, I didn't want to make it too annoying.  Other creatures come in later. Thank you for the review, it really helps!

it's very immersive, it's almost like an horror game, but I've no idea what exactly I'm supposed to do, I died because of the worm, first time he just swallowed me, I saw nothing, next time I just the worm and died, then I survived, saw the mouth, got terrified by how big's the worm but no idea what do to next except playing with rocks my mech can't even grab uh. But really impressive atmosphere ! you guys did a great job.

You pretty much just have to pick a direction and book it with the worm, you can burn the hydroboost first-thing if you want for a free escape. After the first one or two extractions I don't think you see the worm again - but arguably the Eyes are worse. You have to make use of the scarecrow and speedboosts with those as soon as you start hearing weird stuff, I think. I did play on easy mode (😇) but I ended up maxing out my mech in this game lol.

Developer

Awww, you went into detail! Have you seen "info" tab next to map? Maybe it was not visible. Anyway, cloak is a direct counter for the eyes. Makes them go away in like 10s.

Submitted(+1)

I did miss the info tab. And the first time I was lucky enough to see the Eyes approaching I did pop cloak, but when they walked right up to the cloak border and just sat there for a few seconds, I boosted and hightailed it to an evacuation point lol. And yeah, I did really like this game - the arm being tough to use is my only constructive criticism; I had a friend play it and he was also impressed by the atmosphere and the kind of storytelling it accomplishes along with the cinematics/drop sequences. Really good within 2 weeks, imo.

I'm not sure if your team executed on the entire design idea or if you had to shrink scope, but it'd be interesting to see what more depth (maybe not just more content?  But probably starting with more content) would look like in this game.

Developer(+1)

Sorry for my little guys behavior, I have no idea why they did that. The scope was tailor made for this jam, but I still overdid that a little, so ultimately I barely finished with time extension, absolutely drained. I'm really glad that you enjoyed it, that alone makes me motivated to continue development later on.

Developer

Yeah the gameplay loop is described in the intro, but maybe I did not show that clearly or it did not work. I lost an entire day trying to rework the claw, so I left it, definitely not enough time. Thanks for constructive comment tho.

I died in a dead forest, a dilapidated city, and of course a worm desert. Which made my eventual extraction with a single rock all the sweeter.

I like that the controls and even view fight you a little. Enemy density seems a little overtuned, but could just be a skill issue on my part.

Bleak in the best possible way!

Developer(+1)

Yeah it's far from balanced, didn't have time for that. I hope you enjoyed death animations at least :)

Thanks for playing!

This is so cooooooool!

I really feel like I'm trapped in a metal coffin with some crappy displays I can barely see out of, the sound and visuals are fantastic. So eerie and spooky. The sand worm is scary af. The way you've made all the abilities not just diagetic but like, physically your character turns and puts their hand on the button/handle etc is just wonderful.

I think the voice lines are a bit quiet, it would be nice if I could adjust the sound to turn them up slightly (or include subtitles).

Yall did amazing, #1 in atmosphere so far for me.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, voice acting generally did not go as well as I imagined :')

Great work! You managed to create a bleak vibe and a very immersive mech.

Thanks for playing!

Wow!

I think I can explain why this game has only one rating so far: those who've downloaded it forgot they were playing a jam game, haven't stopped playing it, and haven't come back yet to rate. Every artistic (and design) decision communicates the atmosphere extremely well. The concept and the world are compelling,, design and well-developed game loop are a lot of fun... the sound implementation and unique movement style make the mech a tangible, lumbering tank, and combined with all of the modelling, the cockpit design, the environmental work, the upgrade UI... all of it works together beautifully! I am enjoying this enough to keep playing just for fun. Super well-done and congratulations!

Thank you for amazing feedback!
