Having interconnected routes would be really cool, though I'd imagine they'd be a lot harder to pull off since all the different route combinations could make the story much more complicated to write and keep consistent. That's not even taking into account all the potential bugs, which would probably make fixing everything a nightmare.
Personally, I think the rework of Asami’s Love route feels like a good middle ground. It stays linear, but all the girls still feel involved in the story, rather than focusing on just one or two while the others get pushed to the side. We got a new Asami and Noriko joint scene there, so perhaps we'll get more like that in the future.
