What theme and how have you integrated the theme in your game?
Horror: When I was a kid, I learned the sun would explode one day, consuming the earth and all its life along with it. I was terrified that I'd be consumed by a fireball any day.
That day never came, to my surprise. The fear of everything being obliterated is one I think a lot of people go through. Thus, my take on "Horror" is the fear of everything fading to black, and dissolving into nothing. I created a immense, barren landscape to attempt to capture the feeling of a world on the precipice of being snuffed out.

Fantasy/corruption: Fog is set in a medieval, high fantasy world. The player journeys through the world, witnessing the final throes of its corruption by a malicious magical force.

In addition to the browser runnable game, I've included a .zip containing a desktop version, which runs a bit better and has better lighting due to not being in browser.

Does your game qualify for category: "Best Use of Godot"?

Yes

You've done a great job of setting the atmosphere here. It's amazing how getting that right gets you very close to a full game even if nothing else actually happens. I'm sure it is possible that something does, however after finding the first outdoor light I could not find the next one, if they're indeed is one, although I wandered around quite a bit. I'm mostly sure I just got lost.

However it's a bit unclear that you should make it so hard to tell that you're making progress at the very beginning. I can understand making it more and more challenging as you go on, but having some sense that you're making progress early on is a good way to get player engagement and keep people going to the end.

Loved it! Wonderfully atmospheric. I think the spacing was a bit too wide on some of the earlier lanterns specifically, made me wonder if I'd intuited the signposting correctly, but the later sights felt very well paced. The castle especially!

The very fact that this is a 3D game looks cool, and in general the approach to implementation is good, but after going behind the lanterns, I still did not find the source of darkness, perhaps it was my own fault - I did not search well, I do not know (I expected someone to attack me from the dark, but no one attacked:)

Developer

Not your bad, I got carried away with how big I could make the world. I wanted the player to really feel lost in the fog between later lanterns, but I think adding a little more to the world in between lanterns would add to the experience without detracting from the vibe I was going for. Thanks for the comment!

The music is really cool and atmospheric. It's peculiar about the gameplay.

Developer

Yeah, the gameplay is essentially just walking around the world. My main focus for this jam was learning how to use Blender for Godot development, but I'm glad you liked the music!

This is a masterpiece 🥹. Its so beautiful, and unsettling, at the same time. The music is creating a sad atmosphere, and the houses interior looked like normal people lived there. The world looked like a world that people left suddenly. Some house have the interior thrown around, maybe because people left in a hurry. The feeling of seeing a lantern after venturing through the darkness was insanely powerful, a spark of light in a dark world. I love games that dont rely on combat or fancy puzzles. sometime the quiet ones made with love are the one that are best. Thank you for sharing this game ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️i absolutely love it. Its got a 5 star review in every category from me 🥹🥹🥹🥹

Glad you liked it! I tried to make little "stories" along the path, so it's neat to have someone notice 'em.

It a bit laggy for me both sound and gameplay. but i like the music even though it glitch or sum

i didn't progress far since i can't find the third lantern

Hey there, thanks for playing. Glad you like the music!

The idea I had for lanterns is that the crossbar points towards the next lantern, which start to get farther and farther apart. I think I didn't make that very clear, and unfortunately cooler POIs are present at later lanterns.
