Easily blows the rest out of the water in terms of presentation. The story was really damn good too. It hits that perfect balance of realistic and bizarre. The characters are immediately likable, relatable thanks to all their quirks and the way they represent everyday people struggling to live in the lower rungs of society. I especially like Martin (but mainly bc he's a hot daddy). He's a good example of a gruff father figure to those who got abandoned by their families, and he doesn't even do any fathering really. Just a good boss. Harper is an excellent and supportive best friend, Sam is quirky and ditzy but still likable. And the backstory with the Stranger was really touching and tragic too. There's a lot to gush about. The horror stuff is the kind that doesn't really get explained, which makes me think it's a metaphor. For not letting go of past loves, and letting that hurt you, or whatever. It has real world ramifications though with the injury at the end, and the imagery of a monster made of antlers is horrifying yet fascinating. Obviously, the presentation is the best part here, but it's also handled really well in terms of how the story is told, using the color red to great effect in a mostly monochrome VN. This project was very well thought out in every aspect, and it really shows. It's almost a good thing this is one of the very last VNs I read for the jam, because I'm pretty confident this is in fact my favorite one. I just wish I had more of it, really.
