Absolutely astonishing work! You really nailed that old-school PC games vibe. Collecting furniture and being able to place it around your "home" is pleasantly fun and super cool to see in RPGM! The artwork is just *chef's kiss* and, paired with the sound design and music, just makes for pure eye candy. The story was very well done too and does a fantastic job of showing and not telling. If you were to make a more fleshed-out game done in this style, it would be peak! Awesome job!

The atmosphere of this game is so interesting to me. I am not sure how to explain it but we have like a very grim and moody underground setting that also has a cozy vibe to it with all the cute furniture arrangement stuff. It's very cool.

HOW was this made in a week???? I loved it

the art, the aesthetic, all beautiful chef kiss

I absolutely LOVED this game! I wanted to avoid spoilers so I didn't read anything about it until I actually played the game, and it was absolutely not what I was expecting—but so much better!! 🙌💜 I loved being able to decorate my room! I decked it out with all the best stuff I could find, and I had an absolute blast every step of the way!

I will agree with everyone else's sentiments... this game needs to be about 100x longer! Seriously, this is such an amazing experience, and I'd love to see what it could look like with a few months or even a year of development! You did an amazing job with this one Tei!

Developer

EEEEE  you are too kind, I'm so happy you liked it!!!!

ALSO I am SO curious what you were actually expecting from the game! If you'd be willing to share, please let me know!

AHHHH thank you again!! It definitely has so many bugs and just... jankiness. XD But I'd love to take the systems, iron out their issues, and make a full game out of this some day!

Submitted(+1)

Took me a while to decide to play it.
i regret not having done so sooner, is this in rpgmaker? i have so many questions to recreate base building and fighting system etc, its so cool xd
5 stars on most of the rating

Developer(+1)

Yes, it’s RPG Maker MV! 🤩 I just wrote plugins for the building and fighting systems, I’ve been wanting to create systems like this for a while and the game jam seemed like a great time to try it out! Once I iron out the kinks, I’ll release them as free plugins for the community~ so you can recreate this game way better!

Absolutely beautiful game. What you packed into 7 days work is astounding!
Check the stream!! (your game is the last one)

P.S. Thank you for your footstep sound tutorial :)

Developer(+1)

eeee thank you so much!!! I’ll definitely check out the stream! 🤩🤩🤩 (and yes, I got so little sleep during that week hahaha)

Incredible sprites, survival horror, and Stardew/animal crossing decoration all in one. Wow!

Developer

I like how you threw your drugs on the ground to make room for more soda!

I think you need more. Are you sure you fill all your pockets?

Gorgeous UI very interesting story it made me ask questions and got curious about the world above and the mysteries surrounding the characters. I also enjoy the snippets of the way of life of the people who are living throughout the underground world. The decorating was cute definitely could use a few tweaks but overall still gave me a reason to back track and appreciate the atmosphere. Ren was a enjoyable companion I enjoyed the mix of exploration mix with visual novel. The environmental story telling with small detail's and notes throughout the levels was a lovely addition. Gave me cyberpunk vibes.

Overall great intro or perhaps a sneak peek into a very interesting concept. Ill admit at the start I didn't realize I could save and ended up dying but this was totally my fault and not using my eyes and looking for the very large obviously save icon so valuable lesson learned. I enjoy trial and error. Lots of love and charm was put into this game definitely give it a shot.

Also the inventory system was a nice and fun addition it made me have to organize and be slightly more wise when I cam to grabbing everything within sight.

This game was such a pleasure to play!! The art was gorgeous, the atmosphere was low key/high key CREEPY, but in a creeping dread sort of way, which was great but also made me want to hide in my room all the time decorating instead of progressing the story lol

(I love horror games, but I'm such a weenie when it comes to playing them lol)

I was surprised that I actually got jump scared, like A LOT?! AHHH

This game left me with so many questions about the characters, but in the best of ways, like I want to know more, I want to see more from this world, these characters, and just AH MORE! PLEASE RAINYTEI GIVE US MOREEEEE

I can't wait to play more games from RainyTei, especially if she makes more games in this game's universe because omg. I want to see more so bad!

The vibes here are IMMACULATE. Loved the art. And the UI and inventory system. sooo good. combat felt great. Excellent music.  Didn't decorate too much but I like how you incorporated into the story. Great job!!

Very well made! getting this kind of inventory system to work must've been a nightmare))

Developer

THANK YOU ;///;
It definitely WAS a nightmare. Luckily, I was able to take Swagtopus's inventory as a base and then integrate it with my PC98 UI, but it's NOT PERFECT AND STILL HAS BUGS, even with the excellent starting point (because Swagtopus is a much better coder than I am lol). That said, I'll be able to iron out the issues over time, I hope! <3

Was having a lovely time watching "Steve" put all of her stuff into the corner but encountered an error when saving over an existing save file. Was really getting into the atmosphere and the vibe's! The style reminded me a lot of those 90's anime. 10/10 would pew-pew and vibe again.

[I tried pushing F8 for more information but there was no more information :(   ]

Developer(+1)

Oof, good bug catch!! Thanks for playing! XD 'Steve' is hilarious.

What a wonderful experience!

Animations are very cute and the art style and aesthetic is so charming and easy to read. I was immediately so blown away but how cute the FL's walk cycle is and how nice the running looks. The reveal of our neighbor's face and body was Amazing, really made me think of Akira and similar bi-tech body horror designs.

It's so cute that even in the apocalypse, our FL is just wanting to be a cute girl while also bashing in zombie skulls.

Ren is charming and interesting, also. Definitely a win for those that like an unhinged ML/LI. The Shifting Point was genuinely harrowing in the moment.

I am fascinated by how the zombies in this world work and what the surface could possibly look like with the underground being as desolate and uncomfortable as it is.

Love the simplicity of the combat but wish it was more clear when I'm close enough to do melee and not be hit, but that could also just be pure skill issue on my part!

The decorating aspect is really cute but I think needs a few kinks worked out- namely that I can find items up against the wall, but I can't put them against the wall in my room. I also wish we could set items on tables, benches, the top of shelves, or our beds. I would happily sacrifice a lot more inventory space to weird item shapes to have access to more freedom in decorating the room.  It would be neat if the decorative lights actually functioned, too!

I couldn't replicate it but there was a funny part where i walked into the closet holding the slippers, and the slippers vanished- but when i came out of the closet I lost a bench, and duplicated a rug and the chaise lounge.

Soda being a free healing item is nice, but I think I would prefer if they could be consumed to regen some stamina faster, or prevent stamina loss for a certain amount of time.

It's beaten into the ground as a desire for all these games, but I would love to be able to choose between a male, female, and perhaps an NB lead, even if we can't choose our appearance!

About an hour in I had a critical error of some kind when I went to save and it forced me to exit the game, losing some progress, but luckily the game is short in this state so it wasn't too bad. Attached below for the sake of bug-fixing. Pushing F8 did nothing.

All around I loved the experience and can't wait to see more from this developer! Let me kiss my man and slay zombies with him forever!!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you SO MUCH for this detailed review! It is incredibly helpful and I am so grateful!

I absolutely agree about the decorating kinks you mentioned! It was in the ~vision~ (but just not possible in the scope of 1 week haha).  That closet slippers bug you just mentioned is NUTS and I can only assume it's a result of my code being held together with duct tape and prayers, so once I go into the code and properly patch it up, hopefully nothing like that will happen anymore. But interactable furniture, decorations that actually can be placed beside walls, and ABSOLUTELY a customizable main character are in the dreams for the future!

Also, excellent suggestion about the soda healing stamina, omg. Thank you again for playing and leaving such a detailed review! You rock!

(+1)

For sure!! I also totally forgot to mention it and I feel silly but the music was Stellar. Muah. Love that. no notes from me there.

I'm so glad anything sounded helpful in my review though! This was a delightful experience and after i put like 90+ minutes in and then saw you estimated the playtime as 30 minutes I was like Ah, yes this is very good. I'm Absorbed and Engaged.

Gorgeous art, UI, and shader(s)! Immaculate old-school horror aesthetic. Music played into the experience well.

Was a bit buggy with the inventory and some sound effects, and I was unclear on how exactly to save the game. Other than that, this was INSANE for something done in a week.

Developer (1 edit)

Oh shoot I definitely should have added a tutorial on how to save!! You click on the floppy disk!

ALSO THANK YOU SO MUCH I had a dream and JavaScript didn’t fail me (but I’m sorry about the bugs…😭)

AWESOME UI! I love the gameplay a lot! The old school style S Tier and it's very cozy

There were times when I genuinely got kinda uneasy with the noises XD
