Unfortunately I am having an issue with the shooting, I click left mouse button and nothing happens? It's a shame cause it looks like a fun game from the atmosphere and the comments here!

EDIT: nevermind, I'm dumb :D I figured it out! And I was right it is a fun game, and very satisfying to play once you get a few upgrades. The visuals and sounds are great too. I only wish it was a little bit harder as the game goes on. After a certain point all I needed to do was stand in place, spin and spam bullets :D

I love the aesthetic, looks and feels super good, but the loop could benefit of more variety maybe another kind of enemy, or something happening in the scenario, because it is really easy to just drive around the enemies and just dont get hit. Also I believe i took the upgrade for have homing attacks, but later in the game it just stoped working, I dont know why.  Still, super cool and impresive!

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll try to make a more polished version after the voting period so I can call it truly “complete” ^^

And yes, it might not be very clear, but once you’ve unlocked 6 perks, any new perks you earn will randomly replace one of your existing ones.

Letting the player choose which perk to replace would definitely have been better though…

did pretty good lol. Pretty fun, I like the vaporwave aesthetic.

Nice graphics and vfx. I’m also facing the flickering issue mentioned on another comment (I tested on firefox and it didn’t happened, so I guess it’s a chromium browser problem?).

Developer(+1)

Oh interesting, I personally only use Firefox. I did try Chrome though, but only on Android, it worked fine without flickering in my case. I’ll test on PC when I have time, there might be a more specific problem, thanks for letting me know!

I think the gameplay loop could use some variety. Once you get some upgrades, it essentially boils down to applying the same strategy for the same enemies over and over again, eventually making gameplay not engaging after like 20 waves. I'm thinking the easiest way to work around this would be to add one or two extra types of enemies, for instance, ones that can predict your movement and shoot in that rough direction or something.

Other than that, visually it looks very nice and controlling the ship feels pretty good - you've definitely spent a lot of time on game juiciness and it shows. However, you get minus points for square grid in hex-based jam LOL.

Developer

Yeah, that’s the issue with this version, I actually had the idea of adding different enemies as well, but ran out of time…

And yeah, I spent more time on the rendering and overall feel than on the gameplay mechanics, maybe a mistake after all ^^’

But in my defense, the grid is inside a hexagon! x)

Thanks for the feedback and ideas!

The game's fun.

I seem to be having some flickering issues, where the player and enemy models are constantly flickering in and out of existence, have you tried bringing far plane of the projection matrix closer on the camera settings? raylib defaults to a far field of 1000 which creates a lot of floating point errors that do things like flickering, i also had that problem on my game at first.

And the homing bullets is way too overpowered, it instantly ends the game for anyone who gets it because they can just shoot at the general direction of enemy and snipe them across map

Developer

No I didn’t have this issue, either on my desktop PC or my laptop, so I didn’t touch the default range.

It’s probably a precision issue that differs between devices, sorry about that, but I’ll keep it in mind next time, thanks.

And yeah, the homing bullets are a bit too much. I thought about replacing them at the end with one bounce bullets or something like that, but I ran out of time…

Thanks for the feedback!

Great game, hope you can turn it into a full release someday, would love to pay with more content

Developer(+1)

Thanks, that’s very kind! And yes, I’ll look into a more advanced/balanced version!

It was pretty fun but a little easy and the game felt like it was playing itself after getting the homing bullets (so they are probably a little broken?).

Obviously the levels of polish are amazing, I don't think I need to say this!

Unsure where the merging comes in? Unless I'm missing something I don't think the theme was effectively used... I suppose you can have multiple perks at once and that's neat but I liked stuff I saw in other games like being able to combine multiple spells into one which felt more unique

Developer (2 edits)

Yeah, the merge part was supposed to be the perk combinations, but I also felt it was a bit lacking in the end.

For the difficulty, I made it easier for the jam so people could jump in without getting frustrated on their first try. A difficulty option would’ve been easy to add too… If I keep working on the game, I’ll probably do that.

But thanks for the compliment on the polish!
