This was a great demo! The controls took some getting use to but overall the mechanics were great! I look forward to seeing the full game.
I like that at the end of the narrative example script it emphasises the power of the people to set things right, assuming "the people" is a guy with a magic plant gun, and "things" is the soil quality, but the message works. My main issue with the dialogue is that it's heavy handed, at least for the introduction. It seems to me like it's basically "this soil is bad" "that's because of humans", made into real dialogue, but not softened.
The demo is great. I'm not sure if there's a way to close the ammo screen without filling the cylinder (I'd recommend closing it with "R" again, and using just "E" to chamber), and it's not always clear what each seed does (which I'd recommend fixing with a tutorial or descriptions). I understand that this is obviously a demo, and these are likely just not implemented yet, but I have to bring it up.
also, the flower crosshair is an amazing way to easily show how much ammo you have, the hud in general is very good
amazing work there
You guys have a really well thought out plot. It's cool to see a whole script for the dialogue and have a better understanding of the story through that. The demo was pretty fun and I can't wait to see the future of this game.
I love the concept! I was a bit confused by the flowers and what they were doing. Great demo overall though!
I really love this concept, and it's also pretty similar to ours which is cool to see how we both landed with similarities, but obvious differences too. Big fan of all of the different flower mechanics you've gone with here, the fire plant is really neat especially. The one thing for me was that I was very confused on what plants were for what purpose playing the game itself, but the video definitely helped to clear this up. It looks as though you've already planned this, but having an unlock system with the plant types would totally help in this instance. Can't wait to see it done!!
Amazing concept, I didnt understand what flowers are doing - for future for vertical slice it's better to make sure lpayer know what's going on, so less seeds more explanation.
Things i like about this game:
- idea and concept
- the petal magazine
- mechanics (for example the flower that gives light - nice mechanics)
- "soil" "no soil" - I LOVED IT , please keep it !
Both of our games is very similar so it's interesting to see where our games differed. I think for the most part the game is really solid at its basis. A couple of things that were a little bit annoying was selecting the bullets, I almost thought the player shouldn't select the bullets and they just solve the puzzle using what they had. Also none of the art felt great but I'm assuming most of it's temporary or going to be improved on. Overall, it was a really good demo with some kinks that needed sorting through.
The concept is great, it's definitely a game I'm excited to play!
I loved that when you shoot, the flower that is the crosshair loses a petal, great way to show the player how many shots they have left.
The only thing I think could be improved is the UI of the reload screen. I think it's not super intuitive and it took me a while to notice that WASD was also changing the types of bullets.
The concept is interesting and I really liked your narrative snippet! I think a little hoverable explanation of all seed bullets in game could be very helpful because I wasn't sure how to get out of the hole. Ah but I just watched your video, and I see that it's really cool! Love the enemies and music.
