Minigames represent a pretty unique challenge for a game jam’s timeframe. That is, I think that scope creep can be a little harder to spot when any individual component is on its face simple, but the fact that you’re ending up having to make a bunch of different versions of those components can become a little overwhelming. That said, I think Warioware is a good inspiration with respect to that problem, since many of its games are just reskins of the same basic mechanics! Another similar inspiration might be Rhythm Heaven. A useful question to ask at this stage, though, is what the smallest possible version of this game might look like. Is it one minigame? Is it three that all use the same basic inputs? In any case, rooting for y’all!
"... but one day it will spin without us." -me, right now
I like the game concepts, and how they show blatantly damaging things alongside more everyday actions (like drilling oil, to driving). Not everything bad for the climate will be as obvious and easy to cut back on or ban, many of them are integral to modern society, that's a really good message. The theming seems pretty good, but it seems like, realistically, you should be trying to fail the minigames, or you're just an observer of humanity and the gameplay is just for the player's entertainment.
The fact that when you lose it lets you try the minigame again makes it seem like it might play as a scripted campaign; playing each minigame once until you've done them all (there's also an argument to be made that that itself is a message, like that no matter what, you have to pour that toxic waste into the water), which is something that other warioware style microgame playlists never seem to do, so it's an interesting approach (assuming that's the plan). Even if so, I'd recommend some form of random endless mode. The scope is based entirely on modular microgames, so when push comes to shove, I can't imagine it being too short on time and releasing in a noticeably unfinished state, you just might have to scrap some games.
As for commentary on the prototype, I'd recommend removing the "!" after the time, but that's about it. It seems like the framework is there, and all you need is the games, and art.
This is a good concept, with pretty good impact and theming. Nice work!
You've definitely got an cool concept here, but as other's have pointed out the scope of having multiple minigames as well as a pretty underdeveloped demo, it's definitely worrisome for where the game will end up towards the end of the jam, especially with only a two week production phase. It might be best to chop down to a minigame or two. Good luck to you all!
It's an interesting concept, but there seem to be a lot of minigames and I'm not sure if the scope is too large to complete within the time we have left. Good luck!
Really good concept but might be difficult to refine for the actual game jam. The few things that worry me are the limited production plan and overscoping. I think this game due to the minigame nature of it would be really easy to make a good aesthetic I just don't have enough to go after.
This is an interesting concept. I like the idea of the minigames. One thing I don't understand from the document is: what's the message?
I think the concept is pretty good and I like the theming of things still happening. I do think that a collection of minigames fits this theme well, but I worry that there's not enough to it. Your design document has little for me to make a proper judgement.
conceptually i think this game is pretty solid, although the lack of gameplay in the prototype shown and the singular implemented game in the spreadsheet has me a bit concerned for the scope being a bit large for this game jam. i'm also not super sure on how it relates to planting a seed other than the connection to the environment as a whole. i think that the idea is really good, but its hard to judge without anything major to show at this point - even in the prototype. best of luck! i hope you're able to add all the microgames you intend to and that the scope is actually fine!
The game concept has me interested in knowing more about the gameplay. I wonder if there any of these microgames will ever have a winning situation. After seeing the prototype video, I am seeing some resemblances from the Warioware games with the transitions between different games. I'm hoping that you will incorporate the theme of this jam, plant a seed, in an elaborate way so it won't confuse the player not knowing what is happening. This is a good design for the gameplay, and hopefully there will be more games with polished and refined mechanics.
This is such a cool concept! Some indication of *which* microgame you will develop this sprint would have been helpful, but if you develop 1-2 microgames and focus on balancing/ polishing them this will be a really cool sprint 03 submission. :)
