Our game Shroom Unite! : /jam/brainless-game-jam/rate/4781614

So the idea for this game was kind of a combination of the artist's vision and mine (the developer). Our artist had always wanted to make a 2d hand drawn game, as our previous projects were pixel art, and her passion is character designs. So after seeing the theme we thought that's a great idea to experiment with different designs and personalities, thus came the aesthetic for the shroomling guys.
The gameplay itself was my vision,  for a long time I wanted to make  a turn based game with real time player input (mostly based on my obsession with Expedition 33 and Deltarune/Undertale). One of the things I struggled the most with is not making the game too hard and difficult to get as I tend to kind of get carried away with my vision for the combat, but I think this game is an improvement from my other projects in that regards. Anyways would love you to try it out yourself if you have the time, thanks!

The art is SO BEAUTIFUL. I liked the fights it's so well made and the story is also incredible :)

Hi! I made a little Odyssey: /jam/brainless-game-jam/rate/4782985

I am very hyped for the movie, and when I heard Little Guys, all I was thinking was how little the lives of these men are on the chessboard of the Gods. And so I also chose a "tiny" engine for them, Pico-8. Loved learning the engine and making the game at the same time, been 15 years since I last coded (In undergrad), so that was a fun time reopening my mind.

Hope you are able to try my game (I see you have a long list ahead of you)

No problem! I have plenty of free time to test games! :D By the way, I love your game's retro aesthetic, the pixel art is great and the retro music too. The story hooked me, even though I don't know much about the movie.

Submitted(+1)

Oh, thank you, that's grateful to hear. The movie is releasing tomorrow here, I will go on Saturday. Hope it's great. Though the original Greek legend is what the games mostly based on.

This is my game!

Had a lot of fun drawing my cats in paint, let me know your scores and feedback!

Submitted

A simple but very fun game. The cats are really cute and well made! The meow sound effect is fun. My record is 10 so far. It's quite hard!

Submitted(+1)

Mine is https://zaarium.itch.io/get-the-jam

It is inspired by total party kill for the gameplay and pikuniku for the character design

Coding (exept collisions) was my favorite part

the biggest challenge was to make collisions work betwin multiple things at the same time (I failed

I love puzzle games! And yours is no exception. The pixel art is really good, despite its simplicity. The concept and mechanics are a really fun. You should add more levels if you have the time!

If u play this i hope u enjoy and have fun!.

The idea of giving instructions to the character is very original. The difficulty scales well. It’s fun to play around with the signals and see what happens. Nice job!

Hello,I am new to gaming as well as game dev.(All I know is subway surfers lol). But,I am interested in creative aspects-storytelling,design,worldbuilding etc.As a Computer Science fresher,I wanted to combine that and try something new, which turned out to be game dev.

(All I saw was a shit ton of yt  video recomendations and I got hooked)

For the theme little guy,my first instinct was an overlooked, guy working behind the scenes, taking care of little tasks.I was originally gonna build a villian's little pr team, taking care of the little tasks behind the scenes for their incompetent overlord.Anyways one thing to another,I scraped some parts and then got busy with school and vacations. But,I didn't want to abandon the jam and still try to make up something in the last couple of days.

And so it is,

https://tanisha26.itch.io/dark-lords-farm

Very rushed, and as I am new I had trouble with a lot of features but it is about an incompetent dark lord who gets burnt out and goes zen and buys a farm!

Hope you enjoy and check it out!More than a rating,I would love constructive criticism and advice!(And,ratings too lol)

Submitted

OMG the handrawn intro is PEAK, the story is really hilarious. At first, it's a bit confusing and difficult, but then it becomes entertaining. It's fun to trick the Dark Lord.

Nice art style, and I like the camera movement. At first, I didn't realize I had to select a level to press the Start button, but aside from that, it's a very good game.

My game is called "Mutated Mini Me": https://darkd3monwithin.itch.io/mutated-mini-me. My game is a fighting platformer you play as an unhinged scientist who creates mini clones of himself and uses them as weapons. You use money, parts, and bioMass to create weapons that you use for fighting. The objective of the game is to make it to the end and reach the portal while also building your very own mini clone weapons. My experience creating this game was pure chaos. I came up with my idea while I was juggling a soccer ball and I think I took some of my game elements from the show "Rick and Morty". Also during the creation process I went on multiple trips, had training sessions that I went to, my scope was set too high, and this all lead to me having very limited time. I had to do a last minute game dev sprint when i got home 2 days before the deadline. I made some crappy music in like 20 minutes and just slapped it in. I ended up submitting 2 minutes before the deadline! I had a lot of fun though and learned a lot since this was my first ever game jam. Overall, I think I enjoyed making the art the most even though I didn't end up making as much as I hoped to, but I'm still proud of it. I think the biggest challenge I overcame was just my time crunch in the last 2 days I had to work and having to resolve bugs. Anyway, go check it out if it sounds interesting. Let me know if you have any feedback! Enjoy!

Submitted

Cool concept. The art is unique. It's cool that you have checkpoints so you don't have to restart when you die :) And two minutes before the end was crazy! glad you did it!

You can use assets packs or do the art after making the game. It's better and ugly game than just art

Nice game! I kept getting the singing ending to soothe the souls hahaha

My background
I need silly themes to thrive and this was one I could put on to spice it up (in this case pseudo punch out :P)

What did you enjoy the most? (coding, art, music, whatever!) gamefeel & trying to art

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome during the jam? Has to be judging difficulty alone and trying to not overscope (impossible)

Here is the link to my game!

Yes, singing reduces stress, so it definitely has its advantages. Thanks for playing my game!

Speaking of yours it's fun! The character is really cute, and the tomato has a lot of personality. Great job on the pixel art! And the music is amazing.

Rate The Material Farm by ViceVersa09 for The Brainless Game Jam - itch.io

So we are a team of 4, but for some reason every single one of us decided to take a 3 day break at the same time without telling the others! And to make it even worse, when there are like 3 days left (right after we didnt do anything) I'm like "ok guys we need to lock in" and 2 of our teammates, one of them being the one who makes the graphics, say that theyre too busy to keep working on the game. That means that I had to do some graphics as well as spend 20 hours during those 3 days to finish the game. It was crazy man but I'm kinda proud of the end result

Submitted

Wow, that misunderstanding is crazy. It must have been frustrating to realize that!

Having to rush at the last minute is always a hassle. But the final result is still good. I haven't seen many farming games in this jam. The wolf is cute

Submitted(+1)

Its crazy that you complemented the wolf of all things, because that was one of few sprites i made and im not good at graphics, also thank you for playing!

When i heard the theme - "little guys", the first thing that came to my mind were pixels and atoms. I thought atoms make everything up, and also i knew i would be using this asset pack... Sooo i thought how about small particles ( little guys) exist that can take the shape of any weapon as per command, and when not forming anything stay in the form of little-guys. And so I did. I have tried using this asset pack many times, but this time i wanted to create something nicely polished!

NOTE: porting the game for web and linux using pygame, is soo confusingg!!

Submitted(+1)

Awww the pixies are soo adorable. And i like the sound effects almost like a soundscape. Sometimes the game chrashed during battles but still a nice game. I don't know a lot about pygame, but it's great you managed to make it

Sometimes is hard but incredible concept The music is also cool. And i liked the Little guy even if is just a cute square. Also, i was green, but i fell down from the green block (level 3). You should make it a full game! I'd pay for it!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Hi there!

I can't wait to play your game!

For my game, No little guy left behind, the idea was to make a platformer where your ammo consists of 3 unique spirits you have to physically pick back up after shooting.

I did almost all the coding and level design, which I absolutely loved—especially programming the boss fight.

My biggest challenge was definitely managing most of the heavy lifting in such a short time, plus fighting some annoying screen resolution bugs right before the deadline!

/jam/brainless-game-jam/rate/4782004

Submitted

I really like the music and the story an original concept! I like the variety in your shots, though a checkpoint system would be nice. Also, the jump is way too powerful (and fun).
