Cofusing with the hitbox and it's hard to shoot cannon at first, but I managed to survived to the Poseidon part! Good visual and gameplay!

Submitted(+1)

Not bad for your first jam. I had some trouble with telling what part of my ship counted for collisions and ended up colliding with things a lot when I thought I wouldn't.

Developer

Hi! Thanks for playing this. I wanted to initially go for an isometric feeling, but the depth couldn't fully be realized. I wanted to keep the hitbox around the hull area, to show that all hits are happening in the "ship's lane", but had a tough time distinguishing the "Y" and "Z" axis for the player visually. This is a good problem for me to work on though :)

Submitted(+1)

I really like the idea and visuals! but sometimes i couldn't shoot the enemies cuz they were too high, and sometimes i had no way of not getting hit by obstacles.

Developer(+1)

Hi! Thanks for playing. I was aware of the first issue, but not as much of the second. The 1st one was a shoddy implementation, where I actually did want to make enemies that you just have to dodge, but you are right that it doesn't feel fun in the game itself. Perhaps in a post jam revision I will improve upon it. Will check the second issue, when and how it is occurring

You captured the style and look of older games so well here. This was really fun to play through and soak in the vibes.

Developer

Hi! Thanks for playing and rating! The vibe is what we spent most of our time on :)

Submitted(+1)

It really captures the old vibes, really reminded me of playing similar games as a child, thats why i find pico 8 games very uniquee

Developer(+1)

Hi! Thanks for rating my game. And yes, I love the old vibe, and the nature of the community (to have sharing based games where people enjoy and learn from each other's work, and game making is for the joy of it)

Thats so truee, this is my first Game Jam and now i dont think i can stop participating in more, Its justtt soo funn

Homer! haha the artwork in general is fantastic. The game progression stays interesting throughout as well. Nice job!

Developer(+2)

Many thanks :) I don't have a great drawing hand, but the opportunity to do 16x16 pixel art really made me feel like I could actually try my hand at game art

Submitted(+2)

enjoyed the game! tbf not many side scrollers but out of them i feel this one stands out the most, pixel art is done greatly, its vibrant, and sound is nice great game, and congrats on first jam!

Developer

Thanks! It's quite exhilarating to have finished my game in time. Glad you enjoyed the art :)

The boat and water ripple animations were so coollll!!!
I felt like i went back to my portuguese roots conquering the ocean hahahah!
Great job :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I was afraid at one point that I have spent way too much time perfecting the boat. Most game devs (quite rightly) say that you should first focus on the core gameplay and not get too bogged down by the assets and animations, but I was having way too much fun with the sprite editor 😅. Glad you enjoyed it :)

Submitted(+1)

The retro vibe of the game is simply captivating! You really nailed it with everything from the visuals to the sound effects. Also, I absolutely loved that little detail on the controls screen!

Developer(+1)

Hi! Thanks a lot. This is quite heartening to know as I had not made a video game ever. Glad you enjoyed :)

Submitted(+1)

This rocks! I love the ship animation and the water looks great! Really liked the little bow animation on the boat too, and the Hades level was cool

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! I played your game and I was so inspired by your main character animation. (Including the GIF in your PP :)

Submitted(+1)

This gets a 5 in Creativity in my opinion, great presentation and movement animation as well. lots of jam games ignore pixel art fundamentals. the color palette was perfect for this exact game.
One thing i would have loved is a HUD indicator of some sort to indicate maybe my HP or progress but no HUD works for the game if it was intended as a mystery voyage too.

Developer(+1)

:) Thanks so much.

I did have a health indicator on the top of the screen (The icons on top left), but they just appeared and disappeared without any flash or animation so can escape, notice. Also, when the action gets tough in the later part of the game it would be difficult to also keep an eye on the indicator so I should have placed it better I recon. Maybe a bar near the ship. Thanks for the feedback :)

For the voyage, I intentionally avoided one. Partly for the mystery, but mostly because with a 128x128 resolution, any ui element will take up way too much space and the voyage length didn't have a direct purpose for the player

Oh i see, Awesome design choices ;D  i never used PICO 8 but it looks fantastic for indie small games

Both our games got featured on stream, Brainless wasn't aware about shooting for couple minutes so i kept screaming "YOU CAN SHOOOT" untill he finally saw it Haha, was fun watching him complete your game!

Developer(+1)

Hehe, thanks so much. I joined midstream when my brother messaged, and I panicked thinking that he will not understand what the game is about :D
Thanks for raising the flag

Submitted(+1)

YOOOOOO W for being the sick dev that got the greenghost raid YOUR GAME is MUCH better than the odyssey movie because you didnt kill any dogs. YOUR GAME is sick and I cant wait to come back and beat it!!!!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing :)

This is the most unique approach I've seen so far (at least art wise!) Such charming graphics and the music really add to the mythical feel of this game... well done!

Developer

Thanks :) I think I spent more time on the sprites than on the actual gameplay 😅
And thanks, I was telling my brother that he nailed the musical vibe so well

Submitted(+1)

Very nostalgic. Using Pico-8 is a good decision. I like that the Homer in this game is the Homer in Simpson :D Nice music, too.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I had always wanted to use the Homer reference some day.

I played your game, it was quite delightful, and the chain movement was very new. Hope you continue to develop the game and add things to it

Submitted(+1)

Bro u made that game in PICO-8. Super Impressive and your art skills are outstanding. (Fun Fact: The game i made was a inspiration from a game made in PICO-8 and i recreated it in Godot.) (BTW i rated ur game :D)

Developer(+1)

Thanks :) My brother did the sounds, and I did the visual design. Thanks for your comments

Hi, went to play your game but it says it has't been published yet. Can you please see

Submitted(+1)

oh no! does it work now? still learning how to use itch since it is my first jam

Developer

Hi! It works now, Just played and rated it.

I really like the concept and the art. There seem to be a few bugs though, so the loop doesn't go much further. But love the idea
