Couldn't get more retro than this! And it really feels like an actual C64 title being emulated. Nice work!
This nails the theme. Great visuals and audio. I wish there had been a bar to see how damaged my weapons are, even if it's not retro accurate. Overall I liked it!
The style of the game is great.
The player leaving footprints on the ground was a marvellous idea. I'm not sure if it fits retro game design, but certianly is a great quality of life feature, especially when you are looking for unexplored paths, while running out of time.
It would be great if there was any way to regenerate hp, for example for collecting 100000 points or something.
The game was pretty fun
My first run, I tried to break walls with the sword… and promptly lost the use of it, so I had to run around dodging enemies attacks, with nothing in my hands
The hansel&grettel footstep breadcrumbs were interesting. But in the end not that helpful (or visible)
It would have been nice to see weapon durability. But it almost seems as if it’s random?
… I don’t know that it was fun or original (seen similar concepts). But also definitely wasn’t awful. Iunno. It’s a playable game that does a thing.
Love the Commodore 64 loading screen, brings back memories...
Then I remember the loading scenes....
Great take on the theme and nice fun game you made there.
The attacking mechanics took a little bit to get used to but goes with the Retro vibe.
Make it to level 7 where I ran out of time, will have to try again.
Thanks for submitting
Nice game! Definitely fit the retro vibe. I've always wanted to try procedural map generation so this was cool to see. Took me a few plays to understand what was happening but once I got it, it was pretty fun! Liked the music too!
Ok, you got me right at the beginning: LOAD"*", 8,1 =)
What a theme fitting game. Love everything about it. Just perfect!
Yes, it’s retro, a perfect match for the theme.
Really enjoyed this! Special props to whoever did the pixel art, super clean.
Cheers, mate! Thanks for playing our game! :D
The art style and audio really capture the retro feel. The art style was really trippy. I wasn't able to get very far into floor two. I saw an orc somewhere and was trying to get to it but ran out of time.
Great job!
love the weird field of view graphics. really interesting visual style. And one of the only chiptune soundtracks i've heard for the jam so far that feels like it fits in the game!
I know the old floppy loading screens were long, but maybe your simulation of that was a bit too much, haha (first load was very long for me!) Also, the player could do with a little more iframes after being hit. An orc bodied me and took me down SO fast!
I do really like this entry, and the visual effect of further away tiles fading into view in a very C64 era way was very nostalgic.
So far the one game I've seen that best followed the theme! Everything in the game, from the visuals, sound effect to the gameplay, evokes that retro game feeling. It really reminded me of the original Rogue, and the name of the game shares the same vibe as Slaves to Armok, which then went on to become Dwarf Fortress, I could definitely imagine this game being expanded in the future and becoming something far bigger, if you guys wanted to. Very interesting, very original!
My one critique is that, regardless of the direction the character is facing, every attack is toward the right, which meant I had to walk back a long corridor just so I could walk around an enemy to be able to attack them. Other than that, Dungeon of Dahgher did everything very well!
Thanks! you can actually attack in all directions! you just attack in the direction you mouse is poining. (which wouldn't work on an actual commodore, but we took some liberties)
Very cool! You nailed the C64 vibe! The music was surprisingly catchy, especially the song that plays when you're nearly out of time. I think the proc gen could use some work, on one level I spawned like 5 blocks away from the exit. Also, I wish you could drop weapons in order to pick up new ones, I found myself having to use up weapons that were half used in order to pick up a new weapon. But the combat itself is good, if simple. It's brutal and short, a bit Hotline Miami-like in that way.
I really liked the music, and vibe of it. The 8 bit fog of war effect was really cool, I don't think I've ever seen that done before.
Cool game! Loved the aesthetic!
The game was pretty interesting, but I was struggling to understand what to do.
