Use of the limitation
The main limitation I faced was the 72-hour development time. I overcame this by focusing on creating a small but complete experience instead of trying to add too many features. I prioritized the core gameplay mechanic first, then used the remaining time to improve polish, fix bugs, and add extra details.

Cookies eaten
I don't remember the exact amount, but I had some biscuits, a few local sweets (mithai), and strawberry milk while developing the game.

fun, cute little vibe. i like the overall graphics but next time i would definitely make a custom UI instead of using the default AI gen style.

Developer

Thanks! I'm happy you enjoyed the overall vibe. I appreciate the UI suggestion as well. It wasn't AI-generated, but I can definitely see why a more unique, custom interface would make the game feel even more polished.

cool game man..honestly cool concept game definitely has lot of mechanics too it..considering its your first jam game you have done a great job..UI also was really neat..

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! That really means a lot, especially since this was my first game jam and my first game ever.

I'm really happy you enjoyed the concept, the mechanics, and the UI. I had a lot more ideas planned, but with the jam deadline, I had to cut quite a few features just to get everything working in time.

I learned a ton from making this, and I'm definitely looking forward to applying those lessons to future projects. Thanks again for taking the time to play and leave such kind feedback—I really appreciate it!

First note - Ew AI, try not to use that too much if at all during jams...

But besides that I actually did enjoy the game a touch and the UI was very clean (I can understand why you went into webdev lol) though the song drove me crazy, it's too short of a loop for a game this long

I actually liked the idea of having multiple ghosts but was a little saddened that it was just the blue one, was kinda expecting it to get all Pac-Man. Funnily I was looking forward to worrying about like a Red Ghost who is slow but always following your blood trail or a Yellow Ghost who just bounces in random directions lol.

Overall not a bad first jam, just steer clear of AI and you're solid :)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

Haha, fair enough on the AI comment. I mainly used it as a learning tool since this was literally my first game and I was figuring everything out from scratch in just a few days.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the game and the UI! And yeah... the music loop is definitely something I underestimated. After hearing it hundreds of times while developing, I think I accidentally became immune to it.

I also love your ghost ideas. A Pac-Man-style system with different ghost behaviors would've been really fun, especially things like a ghost tracking your blood trail or one moving randomly. I had a lot more mechanics in mind, but with the jam deadline I had to cut quite a bit just to get a playable version submitted.

Thanks again for taking the time to play and leave such detailed feedback. I really appreciate it!

I liked the game design and lighting. The fact that your field of view decreases while running is logical; you don't have time to be careful while running. The music and atmosphere are pleasant.

I lost the first few runs because I didn't immediately realize the time limit, and I was trying to kill the ghost somehow—connecting it with the soul or leading it into a pit. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words!

I'm really glad you enjoyed the game design, lighting, music, and atmosphere. I'm also happy to hear the reduced field of view while sprinting made sense to you—that was an intentional design choice.

It's interesting that you tried fighting the ghost by connecting it with the soul or leading it into a pit. I hadn't expected players to experiment with those ideas, but it's fun to hear how you approached it. I'll also see if I can make the time limit clearer early on.

Thanks again for taking the time to play and leave your feedback. I really appreciate it!

I originally made it to level 6 before stepping away, but after writing this, I beat the game. I got 1 death and 1 hit total, so I have a pretty good grasp of the loop.

  • Do I think you took the path of least resistance? Yes
  • Do I think you should quit game development because of it? No, absolutely not

There is SO much dialogue, and I guarantee that for anyone who plays this game who isn’t scared away by the sheer complexity, they won’t read it. You likely haven’t read it yourself either, because it is entirely AI-generated. Even though it was AI-generated, the story doesn’t make sense in the context of this small little game. The entire game loop is you bringing white potions through portals, then escaping yourself. There is a threat in the levels, a singular ghost, who isn’t a problem at all.

To fix this, in the final level, there is a blue ghost that instantly kills you. Why are we introducing this enemy in the last level without explaining it? (It probably got explained in the story, but again, nobody will read that).

I’ll give you some feedback on the game:

  • The Bottle Mechanic: The main gist of the game is to put soul bottles into portals, so I’d preferred if this mechanic was good and polished. However, the bottles follow you in a weird way. They smoothly follow you by lerping (linearly interpolating) after you. The problem is that they can get stuck on walls. I’d much more preferred it if they were either placed in my inventory, or followed me much closer.
  • Unused Items: I never used any of the other items in the game. I was sprinting the whole time. That has to say something. If the other items are useless, or explained in a way the player “gets and forgets,” they won’t be used.
  • Narrative Scope: The story is WAY too complicated for a small jam game like this. I have no idea what rescuing the souls did, what the portal was there for, where I was, or what was chasing me.

Things done well

  • I love the main menu, it looks really clean.
  • Scene transitions
  • I think the art style was decent, but it feels a little like an asset-flip, as it’s kind of all over the place.

The main takeaway from this is this:

Alright, you got assisted in making the game (with the use of AI). Maybe it was your first game, your second, whatever. Instead of telling a chatbox what game you want, try to pick up a game engine (eg. Unity or Godot), and watch some tutorials. It will be way more satisfying knowing what you do, planning and coding your idea up (either entirely yourself, or assisted by AI, not “taken off your shoulders” by AI).

Good luck with your next projects, hopefully also game development projects. I believe that you are able to make beautiful games if you put in the effort.

Developer

Thanks a lot for taking the time to play through the entire game and write such a detailed review. I really appreciate you sticking with it and sharing both the positives and the criticisms.

You've given me a lot of useful feedback, especially regarding the bottle mechanic, the item balance, the pacing of the story, and introducing the blue ghost earlier. Those are definitely things I'll keep in mind for future projects.

I also appreciate the encouragement at the end. This was my first game and my first game jam, so I'm treating it as a learning experience and I'll keep improving with each project.

Thanks again for playing and for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback!
