Solitaire is what I remember most about old PCs. And weird freeware games-- this is an ode to both

it looks very cool and a creative version of solitair, i think i got a bug as the hook dived into the ocean the hook was cliping into the bottom of see, and nothing happened.

I'm a big fan of solitaire so appreciate this twist on the game! Personally I felt like the fishing was a little difficult so took away some of my enjoyment, but it also def added a higher stakes feeling to picking up a card which I could see being a lot of fun with some tweaking! Also, was surprised when I noticed I could drop cards back into the ocean (by accident), curious what motivated that decision! Overall though, really interesting idea~ great job!

Thank you for the kind words!  Glad someone discovered this, as "tossing it back" is my single favorite mechanic in the game.

With all the changes this would need to hit a more "average" play/reward pace etc., it was always going to be as much a tone poem as anything else.  I feel like it really captures both "the one that got away" stories and the self-enforced honestly of physical solitaire-- just tossing a card back in the water because no one is there to see you do it.  It also technically means every game should be winnable <_<

It started as a bug, but once I discovered it I fixed it and quickly added it back to be more obviously purposeful.  I regret not having time for a splash effect.

This is a nice spin on the classic solitaire.

But I think the lake gameplay gets slow, especially in the end.

Also, as far as I have noticed, there is no way to cycle through the cards you have already caught. I think in that case I would make the cards in the lake show what card they are. That would make the player have more agency.

Other than that it's good job, especially on the graphics end.

Really original idea! One of the games in the jam that I would love to see developed a little further since I think there's probably some additional hidden merit to the idea that you'd need more time to explore

Cool game idea! The fish behavior is a little confusing, I don't know what attracts them since they keep moving away from the hook when it gets close.

Wow it really reminds me of random old flash games in game websites! You did really well to get that Retro vibe

Love the art!  And really interesting mashup idea.  I agree with the other comments that the fishing was a bit tedious, also I feel like this kind of game would benefit from some kind of upgrade shop.  It could make fishing faster but also maybe improve your solitaire score or something.  Nice work!

I put on a video I could listen to and played through this. Yup, this is a successful combination. Wasted a lot of time with this. Good job

Top notch visuals! Seriously breathtaking and calming. I do agree with the others that the current pacing feels too slow. Maybe if hooking a card actually gave you multiple (like 3-5 cards? idk) that would help keep things moving!

Ended up playing this for a few hours! I had a lot of fun with this one! I’m glad it’s mobile friendly since I’ve been in recovery. It made me feel like I was a kid again playing random browser games online using AOL browsing which I do believe you nailed that retro feeling perfectly! ❤️ The graphics are absolutely beautiful!

Got some bugs, got duplicate 7 of skulls and fish Jacks. Super cute and very relaxing. Great execution

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it and sorry about the bug!  I submitted a ticket and got a patch in, so hopefully it will good moving forward.

Love the unique idea, and I really like all the sprite work! However, solitaire is already kinda a slow game and fishing for cards and not getting anything useful got boring a little too fast. Maybe some audio could have helped too.

Beautiful game and concept, though I found it a bit too difficult... though in a way that sorta fits the theme

I was confused at first, but this is clever.

Very interesting game idea! I personally didn't find it that fun, but that may be because I don't like fishing or solitaire.

Really like its theme, but i couldnt finish the game, the 7 of hearts and 11 of boats were missing (but 7 of skulls and 11 of hooks were duplicate, this might be a bug.

Developer

Sorry you couldn't finish!  Thanks for letting me know-- got a patch put it in for it now.

Fishing for a card is a really sweet concept and the pixel art background is beautiful. I wasn't able to use the hook much though. But still very cool regardless

Really like the game, it was kinda hard to get how to play with the reel.

Oh i really like the premise of this, hits all those old win 95 game beats, fishing for cards is a really cool concept
