Loved this unique take on the theme! I was very scared, the shutter sound made it really atmospheric and spooky, was waiting for the jump scare for a long while haha

I got 'Invalid binary data' when trying to play here =/

Developer

Hello, were you playing the windows exe or in the browser? I will troubleshoot to see what's causing it. Thank you.

on the browser. Microsoft Edge on a windows machine

Developer

Thanks, that helps a lot. It's most likely a corrupted cached copy in your browser rather than a problem with the build itself. Unity caches the game files locally so it loads faster next time, and if the first download got interrupted, it'll keep loading the broken copy every time after that, which is why refreshing doesn't help.

The quickest way to check is to open the game page in an InPrivate window with Ctrl+Shift+N and try it there, since that ignores the cached copy. If it works in InPrivate/incognito, then that's confirmed and you can fix your normal window by clearing the stored data for itch. In Edge that's under Settings, then Cookies and site permissions, then Manage and delete cookies and site data, then See all cookies and site data. Search for itch in there, delete it, and reload the page.

If neither of those works, feel free to dm me on Discord (tiny.hawk, im in the Synty Discord)  and we can figure it out there. Sorry for the trouble, and thanks for giving it a shot

Wow, pretty interesting take on the theme. I loved the picture mechanic, reminded me a little of Five Nights at Freddy, was scared that someting was going to jump at me when I took a picture hahaha. Really nice job!

Very cool playing with the light like that. Fun mechanic, and gives the audio cues more purpose too. Great job!

Wow, I loved your mechanic of "taking a picture to reveal the world", really interesting game ! Nice work :)

So unique. Love it!

This mechanic is legitimately brilliant! I could see this being really fun as a multiplayer game, with the hiders knowing the seeker was limited in their vision and hearing the snapshots.

I'm curious about the AI, do the intruders move between hiding spots before you've found them, or they just run once you're close?

So funny seeing a frozen intruder running away from me, one of them got away because I ran out of camera charge and couldn't track their direction.

Great work!

Thank you so much for playing and enjoying it! I really do want to expand it to multiplayer with abilities and work on the mechanic a little more.

As for the AI, it depends on the difficulty and their randomized personality. They do move between hiding spots before you’ve found them, but only in anything above easy. East is basically just they find a hiding spot and stay there. Everything above that I tried to make them act like real people as much as I could. So they’ll go to new hiding spots even when you’re across the map. If they see you and you’re acting like found found them, sometimes they will bolt and sometimes they’ll stay put as if hoping you didn’t see them. If you find them mid hiding spots they will try to avoid you but if you do run into them they will act in multiple different ways, either they’ll crouch and go somewhere else, or they’ll immediately bolt, or they’ll stop moving hoping you don’t scan. I also made it so they have imperfections, such as freezing to make decisions.

Great game - I really loved the mechanics and idea. Additionally, there was a lot of nice polish with the UI. Also, it was great how you could modify the difficulty. Good work!

That was some unique mechanics. I like. I also like the boot up sequence that was cool.

The intruder definitely won our game of hide and seek!)) Very creative mechanic and a fresh interpretation of the theme.

Prob one of the best games of the jam 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Thank you so much! I'm glad you had fun with it

That was a really interesting game mechanic. Impossible difficulty was indeed impossible,  I got at least one out of the four intruders. I really liked the game, well done!

Developer

Thank you, that really means a lot! Honestly I wasn't sure how hard Impossible actually was, since I know exactly how the hiders behave and how to catch them, so it's great to hear it really was impossible for at least someone. I want to keep working on the game, mostly to make the core mechanic read more clearly, and I'd love to explore abilities and maybe multiplayer down the line. Thanks for playing!
