End life plan
The game will stay the same, and I will not publish the source code. Although I may give it a "Re-touch" in the future. No promises.

Transparency note
I have used a lot of pre-made, old code of mine. Mostly universal tools.

Really unique take on the theme!

The story was enough to keep me playing, even after the gameplay got repetitive

I have no idea how Matthew got so addicted lol

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you! I tried coming up with a dark way around the theme, so I came up with someone so addicted to their game that they ruin their life. To dramatize it, I made him a father and a husband with real responsibility. So if he gets addicted, his child and wife also suffer.

I'm happy that you got hooked by it 😉

And yeah, it's very repetitive. I tried showing just how much time is passing by showing the minigame a lot. Although I did it in a bad way. It's almost bothersome.

I loved the art and the sounds, the gameplay after a bit was a little annoying for me at least. Really good job! :)

Developer(+1)

I agree! it gets annoying :/

I made the game very quickly, and I was trying to show just how obsessed he was with the game. It's done in an annoying way

Submitted(+1)

I fully understand you! I make games quickly too only cuz if i work too long on a game i add TOO many things and it becomes a disaster lol

the story was nice! I was most excited to try your game after seeing what you shared in the discord. good work! so exciting to see what you made

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the nice words!

Submitted(+1)

DANG this game was fun! The end jumpscared me, but the story is well written. nice game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing until the end! It makes me really happy that it captivated you! <3
Also ahaha, that was not supposed to be a jumpscare! Maybe surprising, but not at all a jumpscare 🤣
It's just that I rushed the game, and I forgot to lower the volume of the... thing 👀

OMG WDYM he sleepwalked for so long he went into a TRASPASSING AREA? 😭

The game idea was very good and although you didn’t have much time for the graphics, I still think the minimalism gives it a certain personality. The ending was CRAZY tho xD.

Very real story 🙂‍↕️

Developer(+1)

Thank youuu! He didn't sleepwalk into a traspassing area! He spilled ketchup on his suit at the restaurant they were eating at, and rushed to the bathroom, where his addiction took over, and played his game until he fell asleep there! Then in the morning the restaurant's owner called the cops over a sleeping man in the bathroom. :)

Also, about graphics... My artist was going to draw some backgrounds and what not, but he didn't have time to do it by the time the gamejam ended. I had to submit the game as it was!

Nice .. I don't generally play  graphic novel games, but this was interesting .. quite well written . the little minigame shooter is well implemented though you cant see the instructions when not in fullscreen mode and I'm not a fan of hammering the space key repeatedly to shoot .. but not dealbreakers .. overall a good submission I thought

Developer(+1)

I appreciate this a lot! It's my first time writing a full story, start to finish, and making a full "game" about it! I'm glad you find it interesting. It makes me really happy to hear!

The game gave me a real sense of Asteroids nostalgia.

I like that Violet is comfortable enough to fart in her sleep.

You need to release a copy of Hollow Signal for all of us.

That bit about the water bill was a great touch, LOL.

Note: I have the same voices in my head as Matthew.

P.S.: Do you need help, man? The game seemed very specific (both historically and personally).

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Hello! Thanks for the comment! No, I don't need help. The game is a bit inspired off of real life, but I intensified it a lot for the sake of the game. (I'm only 19, I'm not a deadbeat gaming addicted father, I promise)  x)

I liked the aesthetic of the game and the way the theme connects with the story, good job

Being able to speed up the dialogue would be a good improvement

Developer(+1)

Thank you! And yes I agree. Being able to speed it up would be nice.

What I liked the most about your game was how polished it feels. The text is smooth, the transitions are satisfying, and the particle effects & art style. On top of that, I genuinely had fun playing it!

Thank you! I heavily rely on DOTween for moving sprites, rescaling them and so on! It's suuuuuch a must-have in all of my projects! I hiiiiiiiighly recommend learning it. It saves sooooooo much time. And combine it with using coroutines! My whole game is heavily reliant on dotween, and coroutines.

(I use the free version. Its 90% the same as the pro one, but minus some not very important stuff)

Great take on the theme! Did overstay its welcome a bit in my opinion and became annoying. Nonetheless, I liked this one.

Developer

Thank you for your comment! I appreciate it!

I liked the art! It would be great if there was a way to speed up the dialogue.

Developer

I agree! So sorry, I rushed it a lot. Maybe in a future patch, if it still matters 🤔

Submitted(+1)

oh my god! I really liked the premise and the story, in some parts I even said what the f and toke damage porposefully thinking the guy whould stop playing

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The minigame should pass by after 30 seconds of playing. if you press E to restart it, the timer also restarts! (Even in the game over screen, the time passes!) That's because the minigame is not the main focus in the game. The story is!
