Holy shit, this was an experience.

I knew going into it that this game was going to have a unique take on the theme, but I was genuinely surprised by just how good the writing, atmosphere, symbolism, and philosophy were.

Where do I even begin?

I'll start with a developer quote: "I'm drawn to things that people tend to overlook, or even see as ugly" - Broody

That philosophy is evident throughout the game, where you play as a barnacle which is a filter feeder that attaches itself to a rock or a ship and grows from there. Throughout the game, you essentially have one goal which is to survive. You're tasked with eating microscopic food, hiding from a terrifying fish, and holding out as long as you can against a human whose job is to scrape you off the ship. Even when you're scraped off, as a microscopic speck you can still find your way back to the boat.

The concept alone is extremely unique, I've never played as a barnacle before and it made for a refreshing experience. The use of the theme is excellent. A road trip usually involves someone (or several someones) traveling from one destination to another with events happening along the way, and that's exactly what happens here, just reimagined through the eyes of a barnacle.

I really enjoyed the gameplay even with it being as simple as it was, my favorite part was when I was roaming the sea as a barnacle speck. It's also worth mentioning that thanks to Unreal Engine 5 the game looks visually stunning and impressively realistic. My only issue was that it didn't run especially well on my lower-end PC so the textures and graphics ended up looking a bit blurry on my end.

and the audio, oh my god the audio. It captured both the beauty and the terror of the sea and of being a barnacle. The ocean sounded serene, the food sounded delicious, and the fish and scrapers sounded terrifying.

Overall, this was one of the most impressive game jam games I've played. The writing, the atmosphere, all of it.

Great job!
